*****Freak's National Signing Day Thread, Live as the commits sign, Feb. 7th, 2018

If this is over then we got 2 kids that are 4* players.

2 out of 8 signed today is 25% are 4* kids and that's not what we dreamed about but it's far from horrid.

VFL...GBO!!!

No. It’s horrid. The majority of our class is around the 700th best player in the nation or worse.

Pruitt just said the class isn't finished and they'll continue to look at guys. It looks as though they want to blueshirt Davis and Norwood which means they must want to use the remaining three scholarships on someone. FWIW

I was about to say. Norwood is the bright spot on a cloudy day.

Pruitt just confirmed he can only talk about guys who signed a NLI and Norwood is not on that list.

Pruitt just mentioned being unable to comment on anyone having not sign a NLI (in reference to Norwood) so maybe credence to the blueshirt?

I think Norwood and Davis definitely seem to be planned blueshirts at this point.

Pruitt said he'll continue to look at guys through the spring and will take a look at some grad transfers.

about what 4-8 and a coaching search dumpster fire get you. Shouldn't be a surprise

Exactly, other schools can accurately say that every other school in the SEC has a win streak over us. "You want to go to a school that loses to Vandy and Kentucky? Good luck with that!"

If that’s the case he must be confident in someone else? If not, why take the risk of losing a player by blue shirting him?

I have no idea. That may have been the plan all along for all I know.

The only way anything changed since this morning was if someone else came along today, and it doesn't appear that happened, so I'm guessing this had to be the plan from the beginning.

Odd though. If you have the scholarships available, I don’t understand why you’d blue shirt. Unless you’re holding them for a late signee or a transfer

I thought they said in his thread that he signed

Hargis reported he signed, but Tennessee may not accept him as part of this class but look at counting him toward next year, thus freeing up the scholarship. Same with Davis.

I am all in on supporting thus class and our new coaching staff. I am dumbfounded as to your assessment why UT football took a nosedive.

Well maybe I am misrepresenting myself to a degree. UT football took a nosedive WHEN we fired Fulmer, but again the WHY had everything to do with our fan base rearing its head in the manner of which I speak when they started shouting classless crap like fire fat Fulmer and was ready to let him go the same season we won the East. We stopped showing up for games coached by a future HOF coach which hurt us financially and that led to Fulmer’s release. I know someone that works with him and that is the said case. I respect him for not running around complaining and could not be happier that he is a part of our program again.

Lane Kiffin’s move hurt our brand even more, but we had no control over that.

This fan base is a what have you done for me lately fan base and there are plenty around the country and in this town where I am from that agree with me. It’s all subjective, but the logic is sound and supported. Of course you don’t have to agree or have to understand at least the logic. Just know it’s not limited to me and I still passionately believe and I think it’s logical too that our fan base has had everything to do with our inability to maintain momentum and that, in turn, has impacted our inability to build a foundation.

I think Butch Jones had us on the right track as far as progress goes. I don’t think he would ever gotten us to national title, but I do think a 4-8 season could have been avoided and that would have left the next coach with more to work with and build on and I do think Butch would have reached his full potential of what I believe is a 10 win SEC East title. But I think things started in his second year when so many fans came down on him and his staff after dropping the close games to Oklahoma, Bama, Florida and Arkansas.

This fan base ridiculed just about every coach we have had. Butch Jones’ lack of accountability and awful isms brought a lot on himself. I stopped putting much weight in what he had to say after the champions of life and comment and his refusal to discuss missed expectations that he set in his introductory speech. But three OCs in 4 years is ridiculous and that comes from outside the program. Debord’s offense broke all sorts of records and people ridiculed him all year. People knocked Azzani, but he developed some receivers fairly well in his career including record breaking players Antonio Brown (CMU), Charles Sharon (Bowling Green), and Western Kentucky running back Bobby Rainey. He did a good job turning Jennings and Malone into good receivers both of which may go pro (obviously one already has). Noone could have performed with Scott as OC. Debord’s offense was not pass centric enough. Bajakian was the right fit and the jury is out on why he left TN so quickly.

Jancek was also ridiculed, but his defense was better than Shoop’s and held BAMA to 19 points. When is the last time we have seen that?

Rather than try and shove my opinion down your throat I am curious as to what your opinion is with regards to why our program has derailed. I’m more about solutions and understanding the problems at hand than I am beating a dead horse. Floor is yours my friend.

Half of our class is ranked 700th in the nation or below. It’s horrid. And we didn’t adequately address DB or OL.

Alontae Taylor
Greg Emerson
JJ Peterson
Emmitt Gooden
Jerome Carvin
Jordan Allen
Brant Lawless
Dominick Wood Anderson
Jeremy Banks

That’s the top half of our class, and they’re all studs. There are likely several more than Pruitt felt could be major contributors which is why he offered them (since he’s the head coach, not you). Yes, we know it isn’t a top ten or top 15 class, but it’s anything but “horrid”.

Good news is that last year's team was better than 4-8 talent so things should improve next year if these guys can coach better than Butch and his disjointed staff. (which I think they can) So there's that....

Would it not be better to keep numbers open for next year? Unless we have some major players yet to sign this year?
