Freeze and Dabo negative religious recruit UT

Thank you for the kind and thoughtful response. The basic gist I get is you (and science) lack proof of reproductive evolution, yet you believe (and science theorizes) it happened. I lack proof (scientific, as I required of you) of a loving God but I still believe He exists. So, we (and everyone else on earth) all have faith in something. Yours is in science, mine in God and his son Jesus.

You have not been condescending in your discussion, and I appreciate that. All too often, however, those who argue your position do so from a stance of intellectual superiority because they have "Science!" and all we unenlightened dullards have is faith. Truth is, we all just have faith.

I apologize to you for those on here who are guilty of what far too often happens on my side - arguing from a stance of moral superiority. I'm just an old sinner saved by grace. My hope is someday you will be, too. Realizing you already have faith might be a first step.

AV

Thanks, AV. Today has been an interesting and enjoyable one on this board. If we can all have respect for each other that is usually the result.

No apology necessary. I understand the passions that these topics bring about and as we all know emotions can bring about different sides of us. I can guarantee you that I have been guilty of harsh treatment of believers in the past. Over the years I have arrived at the point where I do not apologize for questioning an idea as any idea demands that. I even will criticize ideas that I believe are causing harm. However, I have learned to separate the idea from the purveyor of the idea as humans are more than our beliefs and we all deserve basic respect.

I don't think I have what you call faith. I honestly don't believe everything I read, but need to see and understand the proof. I view faith as the ability to have a belief without definitive proof. Please don't read that as any kind of denigration of faith, but only as I see it. Being technically trained I often find it hard to grasp the theoretical. I'm reading Stephen Hawking now and am doing so at an abysmally slow rate.

Ultimately, we're alive for such a short blip that it doesn't make sense fighting over beliefs when we could be agreeing on what an abomination Bama is.

Swain this morning saying that all schools that recruit against Vols are using the Title Nine lawsuit story against us.
Saying that Hugh Freeze and Dabo Swinney, who heavily emphasize religion in their recruiting, will really jump on Vols about not having a Christian family values culture like Ole Miss and Clemson have.

I'm curious as to how he knows this? The story just broke yesterday. I'm sure that some teams will bring it up to the parents of recruits because everything potentially negative is fair game but Swain is presenting this in the present tense as if it's already happening. However, when it comes to the behavior of student athletes we are all in a glass house. Ole Miss and Clemson recruit from the same pool of talent that Tennessee does. Anyone who is of a mind to commit a sexual assault arrived at that state from the culture they grew up with, not from any football program they just joined.

Think about this.

How many names of prominence havnt been rumored to have had extramarital affairs?

It's a large % and I dare say the most used rumor of slander there is. Sure it's true a lot of times but if you are shaping your judge of character on that rumor that's pretty tough IMO.

Butch has been rumored the same.

Fulmer was rumored with a student himself

Peyton was rumored a few yeArs ago.

Hell there is even a rumor about Obama having an affair out there right now

Again. It is being insinuated that Hugh Freeze had sex with high school girls, in what would likely be considered statutory rape. I feel as though that's a little bit of the point you're missing.

Also, I must say, I find it interesting/amusing how many threads you are in so VERY adamantly defending Freeze. I'm not questioning your fandom, I'm just simply saying it appears either you know something we all don't, like to play devil's advocate a lot, or know Freeze personally. You've come to Freeze's proverbial aid quite a bit in the Kongbo thread as well.

Can't tell you have many rumors I have heard thrown at hs coaches for sleeping with students. And I can say in all certainty that nearly all of those rumors were false. The odds say this one is false as well

I could see this being a negative for UT. And I like that they are religious and use it. Maybe if the right path were to be taken by the kids and admin,UT wouldn't be drug thru this.

What???

So I shouldn't say God Has blessed my family because it's some how disrespectful to other families?

Your family is the same as a sports entity? Are you doing it every time a microphone gets in your face?

I'm not saying it's disrespectful at all, how you got that from my post is beyond me. It's disingenious. I see little difference in what Freeze says and SOS back in the day repeatedly saying "God was smiling on the Gators today" after wins.

I think SOS was saying that as results of a win

Very different than saying a group of people have been Blessed.

One is about wins and losses and the other is beyond the field IMO

He's referring to the progress the program has made since he's been there; on the field. God doesn't care one bit about Ole Miss's on-field results. Is Vandy bad because God chose not to bless that program?

Hahaha dang, this guy is owning you all. Seriously though, he has been really reserved and eloquent with his side of the conversation. Can't really say the same about the other side...

Yet, he continues to have an interesting, respectful exchange.

Good for you, VnB.

As for you others, shame shame.

Why? His quote was "If I were you I'd take the book you're reading and throw it out the window."

I think I can read whatever book I want to just as he has the same right. I agree that his commentary is good, but it doesn't mean that I believe it.

Many of you that are against "religion" are just throwing out so many generalities (like TOP). Christianity is a way of life, and one that I want my kids to follow if they so choose. It doesn't mean that I look down on anyone. I respect other people for not believing because my religion actually tells me to do so. We believe in free thinkers, we believe in science, we believe in medicine, but we also believe in a Creator who leads us to follow his son who lived as flesh on this planet.

Maybe you have had bad experiences with other Christians, and I am sorry for that. But, please don't tell us what we should believe.

Kids rarely care

Parents almost always care

It's a great strategy for those coaches that are openly Christ followers to use

You are correct, but if the right parent is listening, then it can change things.
For instance, Maya Moore was all set to come to U.T. but she was convinced at the last moment to visit UConn. During the visit, Geno convinced Maya's grandmother that Pat's staff were not hetrosexual and that it is not a good environment for her granddaughter. Thus, Maya goes to UConn. Thus, UConn wins multiple championships with Maya as the team leader, Thus, Pat takes UConn off the schedule for negative recruiting.

One coach's name sounds like what you do to warts the others name I would assume is a verb for applying make up, they need jesus to help them recruit at those crappy schools.

Again, let's leave that rumor out of this moving forward.

Why are you so very, very adamantly defending the head coach of an opposing school? I understand you doing so in the interest of not spreading what may or may not be rumors, I get that.

But thread to thread, endlessly and vehemently you defend Ole Miss and Freeze.

What amount of evidence or in this case "coincidence" would be enough to convince you that maybe, just maybe, Freeze is not who he seems. At every turn you offer an alternative assertion and declare that anything other than positive spin on him is all here say and baseless.

-Greg Little tells other recruits he was offered $200k to play for OM and his family could be moved to Oxford.

-Stringfellow (top 100 player in his class) literally signs with Nebraska and suddenly flips to OM after 1 visit

-signing the #1 player at their position at multiple position for multiple years from different states that traditionally have no ties to OM

-parents of players living in Oxford in nice homes without jobs

-the entire Tunsil situation

-highly rated recruits flipping at the LAST second to OM with no known contact or visits to the school prior

-similarities in situations, Jonathan Kongbo/CeCe Jefferson both suddenly catch OM's eye late and their parents refuse to sign their LOI for any school other than OM at first.

You may actually just be playing the devil's advocate, but I say where there's smoke there's fire, and if you choose to believe nothing is going on and Freeze is who he says he is, then we'll just have to agree to disagree.

this one is easy, at least to me. doesnt mean im wrong or right. Each individual is free to do as they please religiously. School should allow them to do so freely, so long as it reflects well of the overall health of the admin and program. If butch starts gettin' so worked up he slays a goat. it may be time to say something. If people are gonna negatively recruit theyre gonna do it.

So as to be clear, I was referring to any science book that referenced life on Earth beginning within a million years. I don't want this to be misconstrued as an attack on anyone's holy book.

High morals and flexible ethics? You've just described many "highly religious" people.

This is especially true in the sports world. No athlete has ever put their Christian faith on public display the way Evander Holyfield did (not even Tebow). Every post fight press conference, he would spend more time talking about God and reciting biblical verses than he would spend on the fight. He was also often shown singing gospel hymns during pre-fight coverage literally while his hands were being taped... all the while fathering 9 children from 8 different women while he was married.

I stopped reading at "swain said...."... Anyone to listen what he says and what his little clown sidekick say should seek professional help.

Just curious as to why you feel that way about Swain? I enjoy listening to his show on occasion. He seems to know what he's talking about regarding football. Not attacking you, just wondering if you know something I don't.

Lol. You atheist stick together, that's for sure.

Curiously enough, of all the people I know (including family, friends, colleagues, etc.) I only know of about eight atheists. I'm an introvert, but I still know enough people to make that a small percentage. I've never really thought about it, but the few times I have run into a fellow nonbeliever it's kind of like meeting another native English speaker in a foreign country (I have traveled a lot). You talk for a bit, share stories, maybe have a few beers, then go back to trying to communicate with your hosts. I suppose it's like that with any group we find ourselves in.

I also wonder if my daughter's Catholic school found out that one of their most successful first grade soccer coaches was an atheist what they would do. I don't hide it, but in soccer, the topic doesn't come up. Maybe that's how it should be with college football as well. As a coach you answer questions honestly, but don't push an agenda that's not program related (in this case I'm talking about being more religious than the next guy).

I think lately he throws some things out there in a way that he knows will get responses and creates some discussion for his show. Nothing wrong with that. Swain doesn't run Vol Calls or Sports Talk where they are playing sound bites and reciting stats. It's actual people talking sports and it's not supposed to be taken too seriously.

I also think that Swain (like Basilio and other radio guys) get their words twisted and taken out of context when they end up on message board chatter.

For instance, the "Todd Kelly may get recruited over" talk from a few months back. Swain wasn't saying that Kelly wasn't good. He was saying that every player on the roster better get serious about becoming better because Butch Jones is going to recruit ballers and anyone could lose their perceived starting position.

Todd Kelly Sr. does a commercial with Smoothie King featured in pretty much every commercial break for the Swain Event. Anyone with a brain could figure out that Swain isn't going to go on radio and dog out TK Jr as was being portrayed on this message board.

When people on message boards start sentences with "Swain says...." or "Basilio says...." I've learned to take it with a grain of salt. Not because Swain and Basilio are spewing garbage but because it gets taken out of context when brought to this board. Something gets lost in translation many times when going from tv/radio and onto the message boards or print media.

Most radio shows are trying to spark interest so that they can get good ratings/advert cash. It begs that the host say things that initiate conversation. It's got to be hard to do that without sounding, sometimes, like you're taking a negative spin. I also agree that they are often misquoted on sites like this.
Either way it's entertainment and unless there are legitimate sources and the news ends up on many channels any rumors should be treated as such. Especially ones that defame someone's character.
If you can't outrecruit someone without slinging mud then your program is probably weak. Can you win a year or two with that? Sure, but it eventually catches up.
All of that being said, how the hell is 'Bama getting away with whatever they're doing?

Sorry about that. I tried to read the whole thread, but obviously I failed. I still stand by what I wrote.

By the way, I would happy to share some beers with you. I must be like Peyton- I am Christian but do drink beer. Unlike Peyton, I stay away from Budweiser. I have gotten into craft beer, so we do share something in common.
