Fulmer debate extravaganza (merged)

Pimp, it doesn't make a difference. Please don't argue the numbers. Florida took our vaunted defense to the wood shed and beat the living ****e out of it. CPF and CJC made NO adjustments and just kept hoping the bend but don't break (ie let's try not to lose) defense would work. It didn't. Yes were were in contention for the NC that year, but I agree with 2iron that as long as FL kept winning, we didn't have a chance at the title.

Plus, our offense sputtered and was handled by their defense for almost all of the second half.

I still can't believe we have so many ignorant fans who would argue we were national championship contenders that season after that loss. It's beyond stupid

Well, technically, we were contenders. Factually we weren't. Just like when you look at 45-5 over 5 years you would think there would be at least 3 SEC championships and probably 2 or 3 NCs when in reality it wasn't close to that.

So, you mean argue your points, as if I were somehow you? Why on earth would I do that? BTW, I have no interest in telling you what to argue. There is no need on my part. But really, what do you argue in sports if it is not the numbers? Huh?

He was talking about the correction you were making in my math. That, as he correctly stated, had no bearing in the argument itself.

A validation of what? His past record being great. I agree 100%.

You're more than welcome to show up over at my tailgate and tell me what a dummy I am to my face.

Please, though, answer why he got such a loaded program in 1992 and then left it in fractions of how he got it. Surely to God you aren't going to argue that's not a fact, are you little boy? I have been asking that question of you for weeks, yet you won't answer. And no, little boy, I don't have an inflated opinion of myself but I do know for a FACT that I know a helluva a lot more than you

did you really just call PV, a boy

that wasn't the question- does Fulmer's record from 99-08 get him in the HOF by itself?

Whatever that record was for those years, it would most likely not be HoF worthy. So, what gratification will that provide you, because it sure does not hurt me in the least. -- Damn, do they take out the best part of a persons career and then vote on career accolades? If so, I didn't get the memo. Good thing the College Football HoF does not do that. At least for old Phil anyway.

I ask because most people (actually almost all) do not spend time debating the pre-99 Fulmer. He did great and had an incredible run. What is happening now is we see what keeping him around for all those years after did to the UT program. That is the problem with Fulmer that his blind defenders just won't admit. For all his successes he spent about a decade driving the program into a huge hole. Since we're still in it one could argue he had more failures than successes

You argue the numbers......but after 48, what the heck difference would 58, 68 or 108 have mattered? Misquoting the points scored by 10 DOESN'T matter in your arguement. They won by 25, so that means 28 points would have been good enough. The fact is that after having them 34-14 in the freaking swamp, CPF and company LOST by 48-3. Like I said, the scoreboard looked like a gas pump.

You can wait until you grow a brain and a head to put it in. Your simple minded question means nothing to no one and never will. Keep asking it for Pete's sake. It will mean less and less every time you ask it. Fulmer has came in, won big, got paid and rode off in the sunset with everything an American man could want. I hope for my life and career to turn out so well. Refer all other Fulmer related questions to the Board of BCS champions. Or the Board of coaches with 150 career victories. Or the Hall of Fame. Or anywhere else champions like Fulmer are found. Gee, it must suck to be you. That is must be why you post in the manner that you do.

Look, I think you have gotten the wrong impression of my opinion of Fulmer. I loved the guy up until 2005 when his narcissism reared its ugly head. When asked if he felt his job was in jeopardy, he answered, " I've built some equity here". When asked about why no adjustments were seemingly being made, wrong calls in certain situations, he answered, "We know what we're doing up here, we've won a bunch of games", rather than answer the question like a professional would.

That's when I got sour on him as a COACH. I hate it too, considering I know him personally. I weathered the bad coaching and game planning in 2002, including the embarrassing loss to Maryland in the bowl game. I weathered the bad loss to an unranked Clemson team in the bowl game in 2003, including the meltdown at home to Georgia. I even weathered THE FACT that Fulmer started a trend of losing to our biggest rivals at home and playing our best on the road. You realize that fact, don't you? We became beatable at home to any decent team during Fulmer's tenure. Neyland was no longer a big home field advantage. We began losing all our big games at home during Fulmer's mediocre at best stretch from 2002-2008. I weather all of that. It was the narcissim he displayed in 2005 that got me and I simply grew tired of making excuses for him as a coach

Come to my taligate and you will find out how much better it is to be me on my worst day than to be you on your best day :birgits_giggle:

It's not a simple minded question. You have it backwards. All of your answers and those of the University of Fulmer alumni are the answers of simpletons.

The reason you won't answer the question is because you know it to be the truth and it is very telling as to why no one has come calling for him to be their coach

There are enough people already to bring up the bad in a person's life. I personally choose to not be that way however. But, to each his own. Now, more failures than successes? wins (152) losses (52). WTF?

You defnitely have a point here. While I don't want to speak for him, I believe he might have been talking about the amount of talent Fulmer had(from 1992-2203, it was the most in the SEC and top three in the country) compared to actual titles. Plus, Fulmer generally lost the one big conference game we had every year.

What and where is your taligate? How could it be better for me to be you? What in the hell sense does that make? No amount of money makes a person better or worse than another. I am guessing that at your "taligate" I am supoosed to be impressed by your wealth? Whatever. You are not even impressed by it, or you would not find the time to be such a jackass. So, how could I?

so you're celebrating the current state of UT football? You must smoke a lot

man I wonder if UGA fans pump up HOF coach Jim Donnan this much

Heck no. Impressed by how much fun I have. Wealth????? :birgits_giggle:

You would see we probably have much more in common than you think

Yep. Your problem with it???

Still waiting on one of you to provide the reasoning as to why Phillip took over a loaded program in 1992 but left one in fractions of it in 2008.

Lets hear it! :)

It's pretty juvenile, and shows a lack of intelligence on your part

Great point.

To these clowns, Fulmer's HOF induction means we shouldn't have fired him. To them it means we should never question the job he was doing here. To them it means Fulmer should have been able to retire whenever he wanted. To them it means they are right and we are wrong and that's all that matters to them in the end. To them it means Fulmer was the program, when in fact, it has always been The University of Tennessee.

Still, it is extremely funny how NO ONE has let him within sniffing distance of their program since he was fired. That's very telling

I am celebrating being a UT fan in some way everyday. However, I am a only a fan. And last I checked, the games happen around the same time every year. I can plan my saturday's around them. The give me (as a fan) what I want. I have a great time watching them and screaming at my TV. the 2 bad years were not worth me killing myself. I am fully aware that nobody is on top forever, and most never even get there to begin with (unlike Fulmer, who did get to the top). So, the state of UT football when Fulmer had those two bad years did not shake me in the least. If some wanted him fired, so be it, but I didn't. In my opinion, Fulmer had a great career. To others he didn't. I can live with that. I hope they can. I hope CDD catches up too. I will be his biggest fan if he wins at UT (then they will call me crazy for supporting him, can't wait). -- Donnan is in because of what he did before Georgia most likely. Actually, what did he really do at Georgia?

Fulmer's induction means he had a stellar career as football coaches go. It does not mean any of the **** you typed in the post I am qouting. Nothing even close to it actually. I am proud one of ours made it to the top. He wasn't some hired mercenary either. Took great pride in that as well. I also take even greater pride in the fact that after all everyone has said about him that the football world has recognized his accomplishments for what they are (like I did already). That is good enough for me. :salute:
