In all honesty the 17 year old is my stepson but he is still mine. My wife always wanted a little girl (secretly I was hoping to do the football dad thing but happy as can be with my little girl).

We need to focus and get back to the topic at hand!

(I want a little girl in the worse way!)

:lolabove:thats good

talking about your kids is alot better than talking about a 3-4 lose football team

Hard to say. It depends on the details.

When you lose the SEC by a 4th Qtr pick 6 to the eventual national champions, that's close enough to taste it.

Hypothetically, if we, go 11-1, losing only to an undefeated UF team who wins the NC this fall (and thus we don't even win the east--thereby avoiding all the piss on the east posts here), it would take utter stupidity to fire Fulmer.

Who on the face of the planet worth their salt would take a job at an institution that clueless about the realities of winning championships?

My ealier prediction for this fall was that we'd go 11-1 in the regular season, losing only to Auburn, who we beat in the SEC CG, but then don't get to go to the NC because of an undefeated Big 10 or Big 12 champion playing USC. There's no way any objective person would want to fire Fulmer under that scenario.

If the Vols win 10 or more games (as they did last year), and don't win the SEC championship, my guess is that Fulmer will stay as long as he wants. Such seasons in the SEC are far from a being a cake walk for any coach.

Lombardi would not dominate the SEC as it is now. No one will.
you just described several years of the 1990's, and no, i doubt anyone would have issues with 10 or 11 win seasons, c'ship or not.

In the 90's we were competitive in almost every game.

That is the biggest difference between now and then..........

I just want to be competitive again!

You need to watch the UT/Florida game last year again, and then look at who's returning from both teams. No one will be picking UT to win the east this year IMO, much less the SEC.

How much less is the east than the west in your opinion?

What does this mean? That our expectations should be based on past performance?

If so, in the 60 seasons prior to reign of King Fulmer, UT won 11 SEC titles or 18% of the time. Under Phil, UT has won 2 in 16 years, 12.5%. Roughly a drop of 33% over past performance.

I don't believe that our past record should have any bearing on what our expectations are. Prior to the 90's, Florida hadn't ever won the SEC so how do you think that fact affects the expectations in Gainesville? Likely not all.

I don't think anyone is asking for domination. Just an SEC Championship trophy to add to our case. That's not asking too much at all. Especially when we average around 2 per decade I believe.

LSU shouldn't be able to beat UT in the SEC Championship Game while missing several key starters. They've done that to us twice under Fulmer's reign.

I agree that Nutt will do something productive with the talent that Orgeron left him. A good Ole Miss only hurts that Memphis recruiting more though.

10 wins on a 12 game schedule + bowl and maybe and SECCG appearance will get old. If you are not improving you are falling behind.

That seems fair to me as well. Actually, I think he probably needs to win the SEC within the next few years to maintain his contract. I also think he knows that.

ESPN - Paterno contract talks tabled until end of 2008 season - College Football

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Joe Paterno and his boss agree: The 81-year-old football coach doesn't need a new contract to keep his job at Penn State.

Paterno's current contract is up at the end of the 2008 season, yet that doesn't necessarily mean the end of his record-setting tenure leading the Nittany Lions.

Why can't Fulmer ever work the last year of a contract before it is renegotiated? Oh... I keep forgetting... for recruiting. :banghead2: :fool:
