Fulmer debate extravaganza (merged)

The whole Fulmer situation has become an embarassing joke that harkens back to days that many of us would rather forget. It is obvious that he is not being retained for what he has done lately. The standards keep lowering and the excuses keep growing. UTK now has an AD who has reneged on his stated expectations, who says the hfc job is not that desirable, and who says UTK fans who expect more have unrealistic expectations BUT he still wants you to pay more for your seats and charge the students a tidy sum to boot. The whole thing is farce.

Why not become a bammer? They have one of those fancy new coaches you crave. Or, Michigan... they bought the spread.

I'm just glad the progam hasn't fallen into the abyss from which Fulmer raised it (with an assist from Johnny).:clapping:

Well said.

Funny that Hamilton would talke up the Men's Basketball job and say it's a desirable position, yet talk down the football head coach position and the football program as a whole. Couldn't believe my ears when I heard that interview last year.

I'm not ready to rule out LSU beating Florida, maybe you are. If winning the SEC champ. game was that easy, UT wouldn't be 0-3 this decade in that game.

I'll go way beyond the pale on this one... and say, I'm NOT ready to rule out UT beating Florida.

You've got to win the east first or you'd be like Florida and UGA this year 0-0.

what is this? you think our coach is awful so you need to root for someone else. that's sensible. root for phil or leave doesn't seem to be very financially sensible for our program.

Finding 5 players to throw on a court, get to the Sweet 16 and lose, yet still have fans foaming at the mouth over the success describes one program.

Get about the same outcome in the other after fielding 22, and you get fans complaining ad infinitum.

Which job would you prefer?

2M from Duke to win more than .500 or the crap you expect from Fulmer for about the same pay? It's a no-brainer for any coach who can calculate unreasonable expectations.

Being what? Winning the SEC Championship once every few years? The same goal as Florida/Georgia/Bama/LSU/Auburn?

Not being stupid enough to talk about firing the coach after the team finishes that close to beating the NC team and was ranked 12th in the nation when the season was done.

Thinking some other man on the planet is more likely to take UT to the top than is the ONLY man on the planet who has.

Get a clue gents... Fulmer is the HEAD FOOTBALL COACH for THE UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE VOLUNTEERS!!! :dance2::dance2:

Go Vols, baby!

Let's get one thing straight. We won the SEC three years after Bruce Pearl's arrival. Before that, we'd gone 40 years without winning it. We won the SEC two out of the four years before Phil Fulmer's arrival. In the the fifteen years since, we've only won it twice. Calling an Outback Bowl appearance the equivalent of a Sweet Sixteen and an SEC Championship is completely absurd.

No joke, you actually have a good number of people saying that the football team outperformed the basketball team. If there is anyway losing in ATL and beating Wisky in a bowl game is better than beating the #1 ranked/undefeated team to hold the #1 spot for a week, winning the SEC for the first time in 41 years, and finishing just a game short of the stated goal of reaching the Elite 8, I would like to see the explanation.

Since when did we become Vanderbilt? Moral victories? Are those going to be our crowning achievments under Fulmer? We almost beat the NC winner in 06. We almost beat a severly injured and depleted eventual NC winner in 07. Yea!!! :bad:

Either way, it goes down as an "L".

Well said. Even Arkansas was unhappy being the bridesmaid of the West three times without winning the conference. Sad to see Vol fans with less pride in the program's history of success than Arky fans have in thier program. It's just a by-product of lowered expectations, IMO.

Let's get another thing straight: 50+ years between national championships.

And, again, both teams finished about 12th in the nation. The difference is that you are willing to accept mediocrity for the basketball program.

Crowning achievements for most college coaches would inlcude their NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS.

And, all this talk about LSU's injuries is getting old. That's why they call football a contact sport. It happens as seasons progress. Depth? The game was what it was... very close (pick 6 differrence) from being an SEC championship for the Vols.

oh, you're a vol fan. hmmm. for some reason I thought you were a tarheel hoops fan. I apparently confused something, because your homerism wouldn't suggest such frontrunning.

It's probably beyond your comprehesion, but to me, UT and UNC are institutions of higher education first (and neither are professional sports organizations). Since I have affliations with both in that role (have you any experience with either in that capacity?), I have no problem with being a Vols football fan and a Tar Heels basketball fan. Everyone can't be like you. Get over yourself. We don't want to be.

Most importantly, why would I or anyone else (outside the dog you kick every night) ever seek your approval for whatever team I (we) choose to support?

How many times would you consider having done that during the regular season a great season for Vols football?

A game short of the Elite 8 in basketball is not a better 'moral victory' than finishing a 'pick 6' short of a BCS game. Again, that's about the same outcome.

So, let's see if their new coach brings them the SEC trophy.

My bet... forget about it pigs.

Expecting more is easy. Doing it is the challenge.

I'll put 100 dollars on it that Arkansas will never see a SECCG with Petrino coaching them.

I'm not totally sold on Petrino either. He is good with QB's but that alone will not win you a championship.
