Phil was 2-2-1 against Stallings at Bama 1992-1996
Phil went 4-0 against Dubose at Bama 1997-2000
Phil was 1-1 against Franchione at Bama 2001-2002
Phil went 3-1 against Shula at Bama 2003-2006
Phil was 0-2 against Saban at Bama 2007-2008

The only times we owned Bama was when they had terrible coaches not because Phil was dominant.

Phil went 3-7 against Spurrier if you count the 1992 season thru 2001
Phil went 0-4 against Meyer 2005-2008

As the schools in the SEC upgraded their coaching staffs it became apparent that the winning ways on the hill were changing and not for the better.

sssshh . The Fulmer lovers do not appreciate facts being posted in the Fulmer thread.

Phil lost to Bobby Johnson of Candy

He beat Bobby Bowden of FSU. Remember that game? Oh thats right, they had a 3rd string QB, so Phil was lucky. Fulmer was lucky to have played a 3rd string QB, but it's his fault we couldnt beat a WR playing QB. How do you like that anti-CPF's? Just trying to see your point of view.

Anti-CPF's? I give credit where credit is due, the first 8 years of Phil was great, the second half not so much. If memory serves me correctly you were the one who brought up Joker Phillips in your attempt to defend Phil.

Phil had a great run here, his record will more than likely stand until the day I die. But if you are going to continue to wear your Fulmer glasses and are to blind to see the problems that were beginning to show up on the roster and I am not even talking about off the field problems, then you need to take a step back, clear your mind and realize there were faults with Phil.

It's his fault he only ever won ONE "major" bowl game with some of UT's best teams ever. You act like the guy is untouchable, but his loss to Memphis is worse than any loss you can think of that Dooley has had.

Fulmer was fired because he couldn't recruit or coach in the modern day SEC. It wasn't the '90s where you threw a net in the lake and waited for the big fish to hop inside. And in the 90s ol' Phil only had to worry about UF being good in the East, and even if you lost to them you could still make a major bowl game because of how average all the other teams were. Why do some people still not understand this? It's extremely easy to grasp.

I didn't say anything except that playing for 3 different coaches can make even the best players seem subpar. So before you JUST blame the recruitment, think about that. You obviously are defensive because you definitely are reading more into what I said than I actually said.

29 wins in 4 years is supposed to be impressive???

I'm not stating an opinion. Just stating 29 wins and one SECCG appearance.

No telling what happens this year. Could be a surprise for good or bad. Last I heard Vegas has UT at 6.5 over/under. Many more seasons of that will effect the program's recruiting. If they change head coaches again, it better be right this time or program will struggle.

Firing Fulmer in the middle of the season, hurts getting a proven coach. That Is why they had to take high risks with upstarts such as Kiffin and Dooley. Kiffin was an atomic bomb to the program. And if Dooley does pan out, UT very much needs to get a guaranteed winner.

The announcement was made on Nov. 3rd after the SC loss and the week of Wyoming. Can someone please explain to me how the middle of the season is always used when in fact it was at the end of the season with 3 games left and 1 of them being Wyoming. I also don't see how it hurt trying to find his replacement. Coaches typically if there any good will not look at other job opportunities at season end if their team is bowl bound.

Wyoming was worse than Memphis, and Kentucky was worse than Wyoming. We make a bowl last year, keep the streak alive, do not finish last in the SECE, and possibly have a winning season last year if we beat them. The momentum shot to hell in one day in Lexington. If you fail to see that, I'm sorry.

Just let it go

The lack of consistency doesn't help at all, either. I'd bet they'd be better (not saying all-world) had Fulmer still been the coach.

There's something in your cool-aid! He coached his own players and had TWO (2) (dos) loosing seasons in his last four! How would staying the HC tranlated into winning seasons with the players he recruited?

And we've now had 2 losing seasons in 3 years. What's your point? My point is Fulmer could've won every game that has been won thus far, and probably a couple more based purely on the kids would have played for the same coach for more than one year.

I think the senior class itself speaks for Fulmer's recruiting practices (or lack thereof) during the mid-to late 2000's.

Unfortunately, the senior class really belongs to Spliffin, but CPF had a hand in it. I am about to the point that I don't BLAME anyone. It is what it is. I would love to sit down to a plate of hot Krispy Kreme's with CPF and talk football. I wish we could figure out how to work him back into the AD (NO PIMP NOT AS HC) in some fashion. He is good for UT and is a good ambassador. I think that if he would step up to the plate he could help with recruiting.

What do we do if he doesn't.

Wow. Maybe the dumbest thing I've ever read.. If we would've beat Memphis in '96 we go to the NC game and could have launched the program into the stratosphere. Kentucky loss has zero bearing on the program's future. If you fail to realize that, may God have mercy on your soul.

we lost to Memphis in '96, and still went to the National Championship in '98

So you think we'll be in title game in 2013

Wrong again Gman
The talk of the Fulmer firing was in full motion well before the Wyoming game. What do you think inspired all the former players to take out a full page newspaper ad begging the fans to stay the course?

But of course you and so many other donut haters are smarter than all the former Vols that Fulmer put into the NFL.
