Fulmer debate extravaganza (merged)

Actually, it is the Fulmer afficionados who spin his five or six years of real success with the 152-52 mantra, always the 152-52 angle with no breakdown on who he lost to, or where he finished. They overlook his dismal last seven years which were well below U.T.'s all-time winning percentage, they spin his moral victories on the five SEC title game appearances, lots and lots of moral victories, what-ifs and if-onlies. Thankfully, he isn't coming back and the six-million he received as a buyout guarantees that. TGFG.

Only 1 year removed from the SECG and the 152-52 is his record.

By the way, a temporary truce, what does "TGFG" mean? The older I get, the more abbreviations I do not understand. lol

Thank God, Fulmer's Gone. Why not dispense with the meaningless SECCG reference, and qualify the 152-52, as even the doofus Hamilton did. As the 10,000+ posts indicate though, this issue is really beating a dead horse, T-Rex is history.

152-52 does not need to be qualified. The record speaks for itself. The only beating of a dead horse is the downplaying of his accomplishments.

Because Tennessee fans were spoiled by his success. The could not forgive a couple bad seasons. We had to have some young, fresh, brash coaches to run the program.

Remind me...How did that work??????????

In one-third of Fulmer's tenure, he did not make the top twenty, (five times), "one-third," a pretty large number. Those five times (three of those were winning records, two losing) were lower than U.T.'s winning percentage overall, so the mediocrity level wasn't just the two losing seasons. Hiring the two "young, brash" coaches, as you put it, didn't work out at all, but that can be attributed to the clueless Mike Hamilton who thought he could just pull out his little list of possible candidates and go down the list until he found someone who would take the job. Hamilton actually stated in an interview that he had such a list. So, Hamilton is to be given credit for removing T-Rex, but he should be excoriated for other poor decisions, and one can say as well, TGHG.

You are making my point. It takes someone special to coach at U.T. You can not just go down the list. U.T. had someone special and U.T. fired him.

Remind me: Why was he fired?
Posted via VolNation Mobile

Because he couldn't compete with the future college football hall of fame coaches Richt, Meyer, Saban, Miles, Spurrier, and possibly even Tubbs.

When these coaches entered the SEC, who started dominating and winning SEC Championships? It sure wasn't Fulmer.

It sure WAS Fulmer playing for the SECG 1 year before he was fired. Can you say that about the long list of wonderful coaches you think so highly of?

he lost 3 out of 5 to those coaches listed in 2007. Two were absolute blowouts

Richt, Saban, Meyer, Miles haven't been fired and have won multiple SEC Championships or even mutiple national championships since becoming head coach when Fulmer was still here.

Like I said, compare accomplishments when all were coaching in the SEC at the same time, and the loser is obvious.

And that's not even counting BCS bowls. How many did Fulmer make it to when once these guys entered the SEC?

A perfect example of cutting and pasting to suit an agenda.

what did I cut and paste? He listed coaches that are at the top of the SEC now and I just responded to how Fulmer did against them in the magical season of 2007

Okay I have a solution. To all the Fulmer haters that think so highly of the other coaches. Go root for them.

good luck rooting for Fulmer

Richt won the SECCG in 2005. Since 2005 he has made it to the CG two more times 20011 and 2012 loosing both. Very close to Fulmer. If I'm correct, if you compare 2001-2007 and Richt from 2005-2012 I believe Richt has 1 more win.

Richt won the SEC in 2002 and 2005. But that's up to Georgia to decided what they want to do with Richt.

If you compare the time they were both in the SEC it's Richt > Fulmer.

He also beat Georgia who was ranked 12th 35-14. Georgia would end up ranked #2 by the end of the season. Lets not forget we were 1 TD away from winning the SECCG and our QB threw 2 int. inthe Fourth QTR.

Now there is room for improvement.
1/1 VS top 25
1/3 VS top 10

Numbers don't lie and back up what you say.

So who can we get that will improve on those numbers.
2/1 vs. top 25
and at least 2/3 or 1/2 VS. Top 10

How many coaches that we can get have the numbers to back them up.

Whether Fulmer comes back or not isn't the point.

We need someone with better numbers.
If you were not happy with Fulmer then why would you settle for less. I know in life no one gives up more for less. If so I'll trade you a $5 for a $10 all day.

Who has better numbers?

all I'm asking for is 1 name that we can get.

Fulmer also has 2 SECCG wins and a NC to boot. Also Fulmer beat Richt who was ranked higher than us in 2007 35-14. Richt would finish the season ranked #2.

You're not going to find someone with better numbers that will leave where they are currently. It's not going to happen. Miles, Saban, Meyer, Richt aren't going to come to Tennessee even if we offered them 5 mill. You're not gonna find many with a worse record that will take the job.

We don't have the leverage here. Gonna have to find someone that can coach and is willing to take on a rebuilding job against those coaches.
