If Fulmer had stayed we would be in this same situation! On 0another note: read where he said "right situation" again referring to coaching. What he means is a program already on top.

keep telling yourself that ..

2001 1st in east
2003 tied for 1st
2004 1st in east
2007 1st in east
2007 SECCG loss by 1 TD

to 1 win against Kentucky.

forgive me if I don't agree.

and yes I would rather be stable and keep a strong base
than gamble on winning it all.

I would say we lost the bet.
Now no one even wants the job.

As they said on espn it was easy to sell Tennessee in 2009. We were one year removed from winning the SEC east and had some 1st round draft picks to boot.

Now your coming into a team that lost every SEC game except Kentucky and all your talent might leave. To boot you have to deal with Saban, Muschamp, Spurrier and Richt on a regular basis.

I would say wake up it's not 1999 and everyone wants the job. It's not 2009 when you still had a few good selling points. It's 2012 and we are terrible and we don't have much to sell anyone our product pretty much suck's.

As of right now we would be lucky to get Fulmer.

Somebody give me a cookie. I knew you'd ignore the truth and try to weasel a shot at Fulmer.

You sound just like the ass in this video. Don't be the ass.

why wasn't fulmer able to get another coaching job after he left UT?

Why hasn't Gruden? And most everyone is worshipping the ground he walks on.

$6 million to not do anything, a job in town, lots of time for golf and family. Yeah, I'd be anxious to find an 80+ hour a week job when I have all that.

I don't think anyone thinks that Phillip didn't like being the HC at UT or that he wasn't a good fit when he came in as HC. The thing about him was that his time had come and gone. Everyone, even he, knew it was just time but he wanted to hold on. Some say to surpass Neylands record. All aspects of the game passed him by-coaching, recruiting etc. Had it not been for Cut coming back he would've been gone sooner. That just demonstrates how far he had fallen. Only one booster wanted him to stay after the 05 season so the deal was struck that if Cut came back he would have a reprieve. It would have been a different story if he would have done like Paterno, Bowden, Snyder and those who actually built up the program but everyone knows he didn't do that. Once Johnson and Dickey retired the writing was on the wall. Those in the know know that those two were major reasons Majors was pushed out. Granted, Fulmer and Shular and few others made the push for Fulmer to be transitioned in.

Since you speak for everyone, he built it up and had continued success until the youngster generation, who respects no one, decided 152-52 just was not good enough. Now reap what you sow.

Younger generation? So, you're an ageist? Aren't the players younger? An ageist who likes college football, which is played by the "younger generation?" For your enjoyment? TGFG. RIP Phil Fulmer, not a nibble by U.T.

Pretty good analysis. The Majors "palace coup" was orchestrated by......?

I guess you forgot all the offers that were being offered to coach Fulmer at the time. Behind the scene Fulmer was leaving at the end of the 92' season. Fulmer asked UT if they were interested in him as a HC before he talked to anyone else. UT jumped on it and I don't blame them. We got a NC out of it. Let's not forget there were two stories going around at the time about where Johnny was. No one knows which one was true and at this point it doesn't matter. Majors will always be one of Tennessee greats. No one should try and take anything from any of our coaches. Appreciate what they gave us.

But can we just end all of this BS.

1. Fulmer is not coming back period.

2. Fulmer is a HOF coach that is a Vol all the way.

3. He has given more to our school than 99% of the people on this board. The time he spent on the field playing for UT. The amount of money brought in through fund raising. A National Championship and Peyton.

If anyone here can say they have done more for UT please step up so I can Thank you. I mean that in all seriousness, It would be an honor to meet someone who has done so much for the school I love.

So no one has room to say anything negative about any coach, period.

If that's not enough then you might want to find another team to root for.

Were all Vols in here or should be. We shouldn't belittle any of our coaches. It's wrong on so many levels, it's sickening.

That's all have a nice day GO BIG ORANGE!!!!!

Should never have been fired. Still the dumbest thing U.T. ever did. But I am done debating CPF. Time to start backing CBJ.

Well, I thought I was done debating CPF. Then I see ignorant crap like this.

Phil had a great run there is no denying that however when Phil was marching thru the SEC, his biggest challenge was against Spurrier who owned him. As the other schools improved their coaching staffs that journey was no longer as easy, Meyer owned Phil, Saban owned Phil, Spurrier was back in SC and was taking recruits from Phil. In the end Phil had a great run but today the SEC is not the SEC that Phil once owned.
