It is hard to understang firing a Hall of Fame, NC, and the man who built TN into a powerhouse. That is my difficulty.
His early success in the 90s, yes. But had PF not been a UT grad with that success, he wouldn't have lasted as long as he did, especially with the lack of relevance after 2001.
You are what your record says you are....Bill Parcells. Contrast any other coach who had to compete in the caliber of the SEC.
With all due respect, that is one of your "old" refrains. How does competing in the SEC elevate PF's stature? PF was terminated, remember? 17-16 conference record counting his last SECCG loss, the last four years.
Who the hell wouldn't feel good about that now?
We've had the worst SECE in a generation since Fulmer was fired. Give Muschamp a helluva pat on the back this year, but Fulmer never coached against a worst Florida team than the last three. All of the East teams, with the exception of Vanderbilt, are down compared to when Fulmer coached against them.
If Crompton could have played like he practiced, Fulmer would still be coach today. We definitely would have been back to Atlanta since.
Now, I can't guarantee we would have won the SECCG. And if that was the reason we fired Fulmer, then ANYONE who wanted Fulmer fired and was not all-in on Gruden is just a damn... well, it's Christmas, so I'll leave it there.
if a coach wins a title, but several years later starts going downhill---should he be kept on the payroll and paid millions, because he once won a title?
The law breaking is irrelevant regarding the arguments being made. This was based on you all saying Fulmer should've been fired after his one losing season. So, my comparison is accurate. So before you call me an idiot, think about what you're posting.
Not that it makes it any better, but it should say idiotic. Again, still not nice, but not quite as dickish.
But I made my case a few posts up with the coaches Phil beat. The rest of the SEC passed Fulmer by. All of the big time schools.
