The firing was justified. The two hires that followed are the reason we have sucked so bad.
I am sure a lot of you already knew this, but in addition to running off Tahj Boyd, Kiffin apparently also "run oft" Bryce Petty, another Fulmer 2009 commitment.
For all the hype about Kiffin's first class, it was only 9th in the country. I am willing to bet had Fulmer stayed, we would have done better. I mean, heck, he would have had Bryce Petty and Tajh Boyd in the same class!
Kind of like Peyton Manning and Brandon Stewart back in 94...and no, I am not comparing Manning to either Boyd or Petty...heck, he HAS no peer...but Boyd/Petty sure would take second place to Manning/Stewart in UT history.
So let me add this to the debate....for all the hype about Kiffin recruiting I think Fulmer was just as good or better, even if he slipped a notch in later years. Heck, his 2007 class was no. 2 in the country and I think his 2009 class would have been just as good or better.
This is proof the firing was completely unjustified. The complaint against Fulmer was he couldn't win the SECCG; you only hire, therefore, someone who has proven they can win it.
We've not improved. We've regressed. Coach #3 is by far the best hire we've made yet, but he still has a lot to prove too.

This makes no sense. Just because the administration hired two bad coaches doesn't mean the firing was unjustified. (By the way, I am pro-Fulmer). I just don't understand that logic. Just because Dooley was bad doesn't mean that Fulmer was still the answer. That is not logical.
It just means that our administration hired the wrong person or wanted to do it on the cheap (although that can be debated as well). The first time around, they could have hired someone who had been successful at the college level- they just didn't do it.
He's saying that if you can't get anyone at least as good or better, there's no point in firing who you have (Georgia fans, pay attention). The argument isn't so much whether or not Fulmer deserved to be fired. The argument is was there anyone legitimately as good or better that we could have gotten at the time. Looking at Fulmer's career record and then looking at the coaching landscape at that time at who was available and who was sincerely interested in the job, I'd have to say probably not.
I think Fulmer deserved to be fired but maybe Hamilton should have "punted" in 2008. Waited another year to see if Fulmer could dig his way out of the hole he put himself in or if better coaching candidates came available the next season.
Ultimately Hamilton's "ready, fire, aim" approach to handling our football program is what cost us.
I agree with this except forthe wair another year approach. The 07 season was pure luck backing into the SECCG and he should have been gone before then!
With all these top coaching vacancies I have heard that both Home Depot and Lowe's have delivery trucks assigned to deliver front doors to Phil hourly. He is so highly thought of from schools looking for head coaches that they have their coach search committees carrying battering rams with them to beat his front door down. They are that desperate to gain entry into his house and get ole Phil's signature on a contract.
I'll bet he has turned down twenty or thirty coaching offers within the past two years alone. I mean, we all know what a prize catch he would be for any of those schools that are needing a head coach. How come his name is never mentioned? Just don't understand that.

Yeah well I bet his replacements would have liked to have "backed into the SECCG".
