Fulmer is still the best name.

I think it is convenient that people claim that it was Cutcliffe that made Fulmer, but when I post his record without him, those people run and hide. Cutcliffe certainly helped a lot, but Fulmer was successful without him. 6 straight seasons of 8+ wins. Man, those were tough times.

... For the majority of you out there that say filmed lost his ability to coach over his last few years, ask yourself if you'd be happy with these records again. Grass ain't always greener fellas

2008. 5-7. ... This got him fired after 16 years of success

2007. 9-3 season (sec east champs, almost knocked off lsu who became NC)

2006. 9-3 season

2005. 6-6 season ( beat LSU in death valley and barely lost to bama 6-3)

2004. 10-2 season.. Sec championship game loss to undefeated auburn

Thats 39-21 regular season record in Fulmer "horrible" years. And 2 division championships in 5 years. And for those that say fulmer wasn't recruiting during his last few years... Here's his national rankings
2008. #21 rank
2007. #4 rank
2006. #24 rank
2005. # 1 rank
2004. # 9 rank

"Just say no to drugs"

First of all, I wouldn't be happy with those records, like I clearly wasn't at the time.

This is arguably the most pathetic defense of a coach that I've seen. It's unbelievable that you apparently included this in your 16 "years of success."

It blows my mind that people would even make threads suggesting this...Just because your second wife turns out to be a crazy biatch doesn't mean you shouldn't have divorced the first one. And to make the analogy even more accurate, let's consider that your first wife is getting a 6 million dollar check for alimony and has put you in financial straits. And you want her back? Full tard ITT.

Of course there is a good reason. He has been getting 6 million dollars in monthly payments since the day he left. Why go to work if you can relax a little bit? Would you go to work 60-80 hrs a week when you could make the same money taking it easy? His UT payments are just about over, he will be getting back into coaching now.

I'd buy that...if he hadn't continually floated his name for all kinds of jobs.

If we consider success to be 8+ wins, we need to drastically cut funding to the program or just shut it down altogether.

He is unemployed for a reason. Anyone who would suggest fulmer with a straight face needs to be taken out back and put down.

He isnt coaching for the same reason Gruden isnt coaching

He's not "unemployed". Do some research and you'll find out he has a successful company.

And as others have stated, if you looked only at his record, no name, saw that he was competing for conference championships and all, you would want to hire him. But his name is what gets you at this point.

It's certainly better than the alternative.

Fulmer was unmistakeably done when he was fired.

You know, for all Tennessee fans love to ramble on about our traditions, we have a lot of guys who seem content to completely ignore our tradition of success.

What, the tradition of playing for and winning a National Championship once every 47 years? Which, by the way, Fulmer finally did. Never would've happened without him.

He is a victim of his own success. He is the reason for the debate. His dominance as a legendary coach.

He has not been hired because no one wants us after 50. I know you can find 2 or 3 coaches over 50, but that is all.

Fulmer is the reason for the success we enjoyed.

Of course. However, he's also part of the reason UT is going through what it is going through right now. Then again, Hamilton should have had the good sense to fire him after 2005 rather than waiting until 2008.

You got none of those season records right, except 2008.

Are you sure he was the one floating his name? Maybe the media was? Maybe fans were? Just because a message board says it's true, does not mean it is. I would also think having your name out there makes sense as he knows at some point, he was going to coach again.

All good things must come to an end. Fulmer had a good run for several years. But Fulmer's SEC is not the same as today's SEC. That was showing more and more in his latter years. Fulmer would not succeed today. The SEC is more balanced now than it ever has been and there's not enough mediocre teams he can beat up on anymore

Would Fulmer have won with the players Dooley could not? Who knows?? Just because Dooley could not get it done...does not mean a capable coach could not have. Kiffin did alright with Fulmers guys. Winning season and came very close to winning a couple others. All along having to teach the players new systems.

This is like missing your first wife when your second doesn't turn out well. Give it up people, Phil isn't the answer to Tennessee's problem now.

Exactly. Plus, Fulmer would've had Boyd, along with other better players. To say we wouldn't be better is ridiculous.
