Fulmer is still the best name.

Phil and his lack of linemen recruiting is one of the reasons it has taken so long to dig out of our hole. In 2009 we started a freshmen and 2 walk-ons on our offensive line, in 2010 we started a 90% freshmen OL. Phil had a great career but the game has passed him by due to the fact TN cannot take the field with superior athletes any longer because of the other SEC schools upgrading their staffs.

I will always respect CPF for what he did for our program. He took us to a height I never thought I would see in my lifetime. I will always say it was MH who botched his dismissal leading to our current predicament.

But no, do not bring him back.

Here's a new flash: we are not offering everybody on the basis of their comparison to our coach now. We will get someone who can take us back to the top. Good for Fulmer that he had two out of 4 losing seasons here. While those 4 years were better than the last 4, is that really saying much about our program?

Unlike Snyder, Fulmer doesn't run a complex scheme that can be hard to defend. If Fulmer doesn't have top level coordinators, he isn't jack. That is fact. Look at the years with Cutcliffe and then the years without him.

Talking about Fulmer is beating a dead horse with a broken stick.

1998: 1-0
1999: 9-3
2000: 8-4
2001: 11-2
2002: 8-5
2003: 10-3
2004: 10-3
2005: 5-6
2008: 5-7
Totals: 67-33 for 67% winning percentage.

That's Fulmer's record without Cutcliffe. Looks pretty good considering we've not sniffed 8 wins since him.

He is unemployed for a reason. Anyone who would suggest fulmer with a straight face needs to be taken out back and put down.

... For the majority of you out there that say filmed lost his ability to coach over his last few years, ask yourself if you'd be happy with these records again. Grass ain't always greener fellas

2008. 5-7. ... This got him fired after 16 years of success

2007. 9-3 season (sec east champs, almost knocked off lsu who became NC)

2006. 9-3 season

2005. 6-6 season ( beat LSU in death valley and barely lost to bama 6-3)

2004. 10-2 season.. Sec championship game loss to undefeated auburn

Thats 39-21 regular season record in Fulmer "horrible" years. And 2 division championships in 5 years. And for those that say fulmer wasn't recruiting during his last few years... Here's his national rankings
2008. #21 rank
2007. #4 rank
2006. #24 rank
2005. # 1 rank
2004. # 9 rank

What is the source for these rankings? I only checked one year (2008) and Rivals only had Tennessee ranked at #35.

One mistake - hiring Clawson to copy the UF offense -- notice how Urb left UF when that spread died in the SEC. If that punk Jimmy Clausen would have commited to UT things would have been different IMO

UT should give Fulmer a job, as official university ambassador to Lithuania.Send him to Vilnius and have him rep the orange there. On a serious note, he's the reason this started downhill in the first place, keep him as far away from this program as possible.

Bring him Back....
He was always good for an upset even on a down year.with this staff we barely win games we are suspose to by 20

Keep Henshaw as recruiting cordinator

Who was Phil RC?? Were they doing their job and getting film in front of Phik that need to be seen

I cried during his resignation conference but there is no way I want him back. He lost his drive at the end.

No I wouldn't be happy with those records, and definitely a not to phil.

In hindisght, I wish the events of 2008 were handled differently, and I miss having someone with deep UT ties who truly loves what Vol football is all about. However, I think it's best to go in a fresh direction, unless Fulmer could assemble some kind of super staff. I never justlook at the HC, but the staff as a whole. I hated the Kiffin hire but got on board when I saw the staff he hired. If Fulmer could assemble a staff of Chavis, Graham, T Martin, Steele, among others then I would possibly budge a bit because there would be 2 good young coaches and recruiters on staff who could grow into a possible HC position(Graham). I am more inclined to avoid this option unless he assembled a superb staff. I do miss the Vol football I grew up with though.

Fulmer has no experience in rebuilding a program. This was a winning program when he took over. I believe that is the main reason that no other major program has offered him a contract.

You also have to look at his record with and without David Cutliffe. He was a loser without Cutliffe.

I guess all the players he had when he began coaching red shirted for 2 DECADES.

He is the reason for our past dominance.

OP.....you're an absolute f$%^&* idiot.
Go troll somewhere...and, take a xanax!!!

Have you read any of the thousan other threads on this topic....or do you just like to read your own words???

If I were Hart I would at least sit down with Fulmer and listen to why he thinks he could be a winner at Tennessee again. I would find out who he feels he could get to be OC(if he did not want Chaney)/DC. I think this would allow CJG and CSP to stay. Sometimes stepping away from something relights the fire. IF Phil was looking to get back to coaching, I would at least listen to what he had to say. If you were just looking at a resume, Phil Fulmer's would stack up against just about any coach in the country that we could land currently. I would also wager that he would take the job for right around 2.5 million. Is Charlie Strong worth 4 million as unproven as he is? I see alot of value in Fulmer. JMO

Go for it. He's available and has been for several years. Must be a good reason?

Of course there is a good reason. He has been getting 6 million dollars in monthly payments since the day he left. Why go to work if you can relax a little bit? Would you go to work 60-80 hrs a week when you could make the same money taking it easy? His UT payments are just about over, he will be getting back into coaching now.
