Fulmer is still the best name.

0-4 against Meyer
5-9 against Spurrier (3-7 at Florida)
1-2 against Miles
1-4 against Saban (0-2 at Alabama)

= 7-19 against SEC coaches worth a damn. And he "would have bounced back" why?

Why wouldn't he?

How many back to back losing seasons did he have in 13 years? 0

How many losing seasons did we have in 13 years? 2

What was his overall record? 152–52 record from 1992–2008

So I ask you why do you believe he wouldn't have bounced back?

Oh dear God. If you think that's anything other than campaigning for a job, you have serious reading comprehension issues. He wanted their job, had Sexton contact them through back channels, and got rejected. Even your buddy JMS thinks you're being obtuse on this one.

If you need Fulmer to come out in public and say "I want this job, please hire me," for it to count as "proof," our fans are even dumber than I thought.

Not all UT fans...just the particular one with which you were arguing.

Your taking a statement and trying to turn it into what you want it to mean. That's not how it works. How many articles, and media outlets already have Jon Gruden here at UT? Exactly my point. You did not even show a quote where a media outlet said Fulmer tried to get the job. You quoted Fulmer saying it MAY be an opportunity he would consider. Your claims of "He had sexton contact USF through back channels" is just you making stuff up. You have zero to support it. Making it up in your mind, does not make it true.

The idiocy amazes me. What on Earth do you think "not directly" means?

There have been plenty of media outlets reporting that Fulmer was trying to insert his name in the Notre Dame coaching search when they had no interest in him, or that he did the same for Louisville, Kansas, South Florida, and UConn. If that's what you want, it's very easy to find. Again: do you want quotes from Fulmer himself about how he got rejected? How often do you think coaches admit that they wanted a job and got turned down?

I'm in PR. From that standpoint, him coming would make a storybook ending. Imagine if he came for 3 years and had to name a coach in waiting to take over in year 4. He has three seasons to break Neylands Record and then turns it over. I really believe there is a new Phil if given the chance.

I suggest you find another line of work.

it's well known the Louisville, Kansas, and USF jobs Fulmer was interested in, and in particular Louisville basically gave him a courtesy interview but they had no real interest in him.

It's very simple. Your spouting off about claims that you can not support as fact. Your trying to get people to buy into what your saying without anything to support it but media outlets who throw out more rumors than anyone. How many times has Gruden been hired this week? Your issue is when you read something via a media outlet you take it as 100% fact. You saw Elvis in the mall right? Aliens took your dog? Stay away from the supermarket tabloids my man, they just make you look silly.

You haven't answered my question. I give you quotes from Fulmer, you say you want media reports that he tried to get certain jobs. I say that's great, because they're everywhere, and you say they're all lies (after you asked for them). So what counts as proof? Does Fulmer need to come out and say that he wanted the USF job and got rejected?

I never asked for "media reports". I have made it very clear I don't buy into the "media reports" because they are nothing but speculation and rumor(Note my pointing out the Gruden stuff). What I am telling you is YOU can't produce proof Fulmer has been turned down for ANY jobs. You were not there and have no idea what the man has done since leaving Tennessee. You have an agenda and your failing at it. Rumors and quoting message boards will not prove you know anything.

He says every year that he wants to get back into coaching. Not only do people around him (like his agent) say he's interested in jobs, which is how it normally works, he actually comes out himself and gushes about specific jobs, saying they're perfect for what he needs. Yet, he's still jobless after four years. What more proof do you need?

Also, since we're on the subject of reports and rumors: if he really didn't want to get back into coaching, why hasn't there been a single report of him turning someone down? With every single desirable coach out there (Gruden, Patterson, Cutcliffe, etc.) the reports involve them turning other schools down, not getting rejected. Fulmer is the exact opposite. Could it be that he's not desirable in the least?

Your trying to prove something you can not prove. You can try to use all the "reports" you like. You have no idea what jobs Fulmer has tried to get IF ANY and you have no idea if he were turned down or pulled his name from consideration of these said jobs IF ANY. You seem to think media reports have to be accurate to comment on something. Obviously you do not pay attention. 95% of the stuff in the "reports" are rumor and speculation. You seem to like using these to prop up your agenda against Fulmer. Noone will stop you. Just don't expect alot of people to care what you have to say.

The first paragraph of what I said is 100% fact. If it's too hard for you to put two and two together, or if you don't like hearing that your hero is unwanted at USF, then ignorance is bliss I suppose. But when there's this much smoke, there's fire.

Also, when Bill Snyder took a break, he actually took a break. He wasn't telling everyone that would listen (most of whom didn't care) that he was available.

152-52, 2 sec titles, a national title, and has more wins (14) vs the final ap top 10 than any coach in the history of the conference besides bryant(16) and spurrier(15), and each of those guys coached longer than fulmer did at UT...These are facts, and no coach could have such a record without being a great coach. PERIOD. But when one says that the fulmer is a fool...well he is showing his ignorance.

I can't believe I am saying this because I was as ready for PF to be gone 4 years ago as anyone else, but if we cannot ink JG, then I would tend to agree with OP. Think about this potential staff:

HC - Fulmer
OC - TBD (Sanders?)
QB - Sanders or Andy Kelly
RB - Graham
WR/TE - Tee
OL - Pittman
DC - Chavis
DL - Marion Hobby
LB - Dale Jones
Secondary - TBD (Conklin?)
ST - TBD

That would be a pretty strong staff boys. You can't tell me that if PF called these guys they wouldn't at least listen and consider coming "home" to return their school to national prominence. Not saying it will happen, but it's not as awful as it might seem. Plus, PF is probably hungry to prove all the people that said he was washed up wrong and I still think he would have the touch when it comes to sitting with the mommas in the living room and selling the University of Tennessee.

Who cares? Facts prove the guy can coach and has one of the best records in the history of the best conference in the country. END OF DEBATE

Fulmer vs final ap top 10-14-25... Bear Bryant f chrissakes was only 16-20, spurrier 15-31, neyland 10-14-2 f sake of comparison.

nobody wants him....nobody

He had a great overall career, but it's obvious his numbers were largely built on his success in the 90s when the SEC wasn't very strong.

In todays SEC he suffered mightily.
