Fulmer is still the best name.

Saban didn't go to Bama, Chip Kelly didn't go Oregon, Brian Kelly didn't go to ND. Bill Snyder didn't go to KSU. Why do you think we have to have a whole staff made up of former Vols to be successful?

I can't believe I am saying this because I was as ready for PF to be gone 4 years ago as anyone else, but if we cannot ink JG, then maybe it is time to get the band back together so to speak. Consider this potential staff:

HC - Fulmer
OC - TBD (Sanders?)
QB - Sanders or Andy Kelly
RB - Graham
WR/TE - Tee
OL - Pittman
DC - Chavis
DL - Marion Hobby
LB - Dale Jones
Secondary - TBD (Conklin?)
ST - TBD

That would be a pretty strong staff boys. You can't tell me that if PF called these guys they wouldn't at least listen and consider coming "home" to return their school to national prominence. Not saying it will happen, but it's not as awful as it might seem. Plus, PF is probably hungry to prove all the people that said he was washed up wrong and I still think he would have the touch when it comes to sitting with the mommas in the living room and selling the University of Tennessee.

Chasing that gofer as gotten to you.

Bill Snyder - speaking of coaches that came back to the same school again.

You want Sanders as OC? Do you remember 05? And it was him because look what Cutclife did with the same guys in 06.

Are you that weak that you need to find out what other people like and prefer before deciding what you think? You don't know who would or wouldnt like to have him but (1) he is getting a great check (2) has no need to accept anything he thinks is beneath him and (3) when you are that age and got fired from your last job getting rehired at that level is pretty rare

Bear Bryant and Neyland probably werent anything special..after all the sec was weak back then...heck, spurrier too. Nice logic.

i dont doubt he was good before the sec became the premier conference. but nobody wants him. nobody

i may be weak, but nobody wants him, except maybe bama fans so they can have their pick of the litter regarding seats in our stadium like in 2008, nobody wants him

I was originally gonna do my normal crap emoticon, but I figured you deserved an explanation. If you hire a coach like Fulmer that we fired, you will be asking for one of the most divided fan bases in history of any sport. If he were to win big (7+) games for the next 10 years, yes it would help put out the negativity. One slip-up, and I mean anything close to only 7 wins INCLUDING a bowl game would mean total chaos in the fan base. If (maybe when) we don't get Gruden, we better hope the Mayans were correct because there will be pandemonium running rampant in Knoxville. :peace2:

To be fair, Bammers thought that until Saban. And the last 2 non-vol-ties coaches we have had were indescribable disasters, while the previous Alumni coaches were pretty good.

I agree with most of this, but when 7+ wins starts counting as "winning big" in the minds of Tennessee fans, we're doomed. That kind of mindset is what allowed Fulmer to overstay his welcome in the first place.

Spurrier's had one or two good years and a lot more 8-5 type seasons...he's a guy that has a better record than he deserves because of the defensive side of the ball he has nothing to do with...his offenses collectively have been average at best. The SEC is the best conference in the country now, and was the best conference in the country in the nineties as well. Bama was consistently strong, as was Georgia, as was Auburn, and fla obviously...in the 90's the sec had 5 teams in the top 25 for the decade...aub tn bama fla ga...in the 00's they had 5 teams as well just trade lsu f bama.

Spurrier is still coaching. And not doing too bad at South Carolina either.

7 wins is a joke at UT but since you think fulmer overstayed his welcome what year should he have been fired? For chrissakes he won 10 games and almost beat the eventual nat'l champs in the secc with a team whose talent had no business winning 10 games the yr before he was fired...

Just so everyone knows, pretty much everything about this post is wrong.

2005.

Yeah, we also got destroyed by our rivals 100 to 37 that year.

So Ron Zook deserves the credit? Okay.

spurrier won a conference championship at duke. let me know when fulmer wins one in another conference at an academic school. oh wait, he cant...because nobody wants him...NOBODY

How many national championships has the SEC won.....in a row now?

Sorry buddy. The 90s SEC isn't on the level of the SEC the past several years.

In the 90s we could out talent our opponents (not to mention the schlub coaches). When the rest of the SEC improved their talent it came down to coaching. And we lost.
