Fulmer is still the best name.

There aren't many things I hate more than people who act like Tennessee football was nothing before Fulmer. We have 16 conference titles in the last 100 years (1 every 6 years). Fulmer won 2 of those in 16 years.

Since 1910, there have only been two decades where we haven't won a conference championship: the 1970s and--you guessed it--2000-2010.
Winning one championship in a decade means what? Tennessee football was at it's best since the days of the General under Fulmer. So, in proper perspective, Fulmer is a great coach. Hall of Fame great. Because he has not been hired at another school does nothing to diminish his greatness. At all. To randomly assume that he could not win again here is stupid at best. The record says 15 years (out of 17) of eight or more wins. That is one hell of a percentage.
What coach has done that? Certainly nobody is this league since Dooley. Fulmer is the best name that is not a pipe dream. He has already done what we are hoping for some one to do. Win at Tennessee.

Getting my number together for ya. Will start with this

At the end of his tenure at Tennessee, Fulmer had the second-highest number of wins of any head coach in Tennessee history, just 21 behind legendary coach Robert Neyland. Fulmer also was only the third coach in Tennessee history to win a claimed national championship.
And yet in fulmers last 5-6 years he helped lead us into mediocrity. He was a great coach. WAS.... Then Saban, miles, spurrier,Meyer, and TT came along and he couldn't keep up. They consistently out coached us and in the end started to out talent us as well. Which is why we started getting killed versus FLA, ALA etc..

It's a lot more. The people who want Fulmer back are the same people who think we should just hire Peyton Manning and give Fulmer the AD job.

I ONLY think we should consider bringing CPF back if we strike out on a "big name hire" and get into that second tier of HC options. If we are down to a Sonny Dykes/Art Briles type I'd just as soon bring CPF back.

P.S. I don't EVER think Peyton will coach or work in any official capacity with UT, so your generalazation, as most generalazations, is a failure.

Well I'll ask you this:

1. Who is your favorite Tenn. coach off all time?
2. Who is the Top 3 most successful coaches in Tenn. history?
3. What coach and era set the standard for Tenn. football?

For number 3 plz include your stats.

4. Which coach has come closet to reaching your expectations?

I ask this because I want to understand what your expectations are and has Tennessee has ever lived up to them?

1. Neyland wish I could have been around to watch him coach, But in my lifetime Fulmer has come the closet to matching his standards.

2. 1. Neyland 173–31, A NC, seven conference championships. 2. Fulmer 152-52, A NC and won two Conference championships. 3. Majors 116–62 two Conference championships.

3. Neyland 173–31, A NC, seven conference championships.

4. Fulmer

Now Tennessee has 16 Conference championships Take Neylands 7 out and do your math? That would be one every 11 years.

Now we we take Fulmers out? Now were down to 1 every 14 years.

So really Neyland is our Greatest coach take his numbers out and we don't look like that dominate team so many declare we are. And remove Fulmer it gets worse.

No Neyland And no Fulmer 1 Conference championship every 20 years and NO NC!!!! So how good does Tennessee look without them.

Let's take johnny's 2 out and we would Celebrate a Conference championship every 20 years.

So the way I see it Neyland saved us and gave us our standards that we still carry on today. After Neyland we were lost. Johnny came in and got us on track. Fulmer got us over that hump that Johnny couldn't and won us a NC. We owe everything to all three coaches. Now it's up to our next coach to get us back there and there is a lot to do

Now again I'm not saying bring him back, but be happy you had him and stop trying to discredit his success.

So our goal is 8-4 seasons? Dear God.

According to Hart the football team has been playing with one hand tied behind their back for awhile now.

Too bad he did not win every game. Would have been special. Could have made the Hall of Fame or something.

If Phil Fulmer was such a great coach then please tell me why he is unemployed in the coaching profession. Surely one of the 120 division one programs would have hired this legend during the last four years.

If 8 wins isn't our standard, why are you telling me how many times Fulmer won 8 games? Is that supposed to mean something?
The standard of playing games is to win. Fulmer is quite a winner by SEC standards. Top 5 ever. Yep, ever. And that means what it means. Your posts apparently mean something as well. Who in the hell knows what is another matter.

Some people are college football coaches.
Some people are mercenary's.
Some people don't need to coach.
Some people don't have to coach.
Coaching currently does not equate to greatness. He does not need a current job to be a great coach. He only needs to have been a great coach to be known as a great coach. He has done so, and he is. If he NEVER coaches again.

The standard of playing football is to win championships, not wallow in mediocrity at 8-4 every year. It's that simple.

Fulmerites will tell you it's because he didnt't want the jobs.

There is no argument. 152 wins, 2 SEC titles and your schools first national title in 50 years can't be argued away. This is all for fun. And it is quite funny for an armchair moob to even attempt to discredit a champion. But keep trying, it is amusing.
