Fulmer is still the best name.

Fulmer, Chaney and Chavis only way it would work if Fulmer did get his old job back.

While I think that would be ideal and make the transition easier I do think there are alot of underpaid DC out there who could be hired. Narduzzi from Michigan State is one I like alot and the man makes 500 grand a year. (We paid Sal 800 grand a year). Randy Shannon is coaching LB's at TCU currently. I would guess he makes well under 500 grand. Alot of options if your looking for assistants.

If you can't get Chavis there's little reason to bring Fulmer back, from what little reason there was already.

take a look at Kansas State. They hired Bill Snyder back and all of a sudden they are good again. We need our family environment back. Fulmer would do that.

Yeah it would happen exactly like that.

Synder's first 2 years back were 6-6 and 7-6; don't even tell me you think Vol fans would stomach that after the past 3 seasons. If you do, you're lying.

If Fulmer came back and that happened, the natives would be beyond restless.

Kind of narrow minded don't you think? There are currently 10 teams whose defense ranks better than Chavis at LSU. Yes, my Michigan State option is one of them and makes about 1/2 what John does. I would love to have Fulmer & Chavis back, but it would not be a deal breaker to me anyway.

No. You guys are wanting the "glory days" back and Fulmer's "glory days" were with Cut and Chavis.

I wouldn't be opposed to giving Fulmer a shot. I was mad when he got ousted. Maybe this vacation is what he needed to get back to his old self. BTW, I am not saying I think it will happen.

Well, I do miss how things were back when they were here. Bowl games were nice. Going to Florida to play Michigan in the Citrus was alot of fun. (Witten may still be running). The way I see it is Cutcliffe was a great Vol. Is our offense currently very "Cut like" with Chaney? How many times did ESPN talk about the UT offense this year and what it was doing? It was not perfect and needed a little bit of tweeking, but was very strong. How often could a coach come in and know 1/3 the team/scheme is ready to go? Fulmer would need to bring Chavis or a capable DC and then focus on Special Teams. We would have stability and recruiting would pick back up. Alot of Fulmers recruiting issues toward the end could very well be explained like Dooley's this year. When enough people are calling for your head, recruits notice.

I dont think BS was fired mid season in the way Phil was.

If MH had let the season run out then fired or made Phil resign then maybe returning would be an option. But not now. His returning does nothing to unite a fan base. If he wins then those despising Phil only grow angrier. If he loses then they scream "see! told you so". We need a winning coach but we're not so desperate we throw out all the potential candidates for Phil

I was also thinking about it from a buyout point of view. Maybe I am way off here but I would think Fulmer would consider the job on a 4-5 year deal without a large buyout at all. I think the pride he would get from being called back would be more than enough for him. JMO

Hard to say if it would unite the fanbase or not. Just in this thread it seems there are more for the idea than against it. Out in the "non message board world", who knows? I honestly think alot of people think we screwed up the day the man was fired. 4 years later, alot more probably think so.

We have found out now that Fulmer's legs were cut out from under him by the administration the last few years he was there. If the administration would do for him like they were ready to do for Gruden, then I say bring him back if he would even discuss the idea with the university. I wouldn't give them the time of day myself, but Coach Fulmer is a VFL. I think we still need swing the bat first for a proven winner in that category and if we come up empty, I am IN.

I have spoken with a booster friend of mine and his first words was we screwed up in allowing Hamilton to fire Fulmer and Chavis.

This issue is overlooked by most. If the AD wasn't backing him then how could he win. I'm not sure how far back the AD issues go though.

At this point I wouldn't be opposed to it. Keep the rest of the current staff except Sal and bring bach Chief. I have to say that Chief's D with Chaney's O could be a wonderful thing.

That is all I am saying.

That's because most against it aren't bothering to even post in here.
