Fulmer Picking Up Steam/Schools looking at Fulmer?(merged)

Would have won 9 games last year.

Would be leading the SECE this year.

Yeah, would have sucked to have kept him.

PS - would have won seven games in 2008.....

No, No, Yes, and No. Wyoming played a couple of opponents UT also played. Guess who played both of them closer? I'll give you a hint: not us. Our offense sucked and once again it cost us a game against an inferior team.

Fulmer is 2 wins at best with this roster.

Do you think he will come back.....maybe if the money is right, or do you think UT screwed this up to a point where Phil just won't consider coming back to save the program?

The idea of Fulmer making it to a bowl game with the 2009 roster makes me laugh to the point of breathing troubles.

For real. I'm really hoping he can save us the way he did after he drove us into a ditch in 2005.

I am no Fulmer apologist, but I would guarantee Fulmer would make a bowl this year. He would have continued bringing in highly talented classes (and would have had zero turnover and defections, which is what really doomed our talent levels) that would win between 7 and 9 games MOST years (like he did his whole time here). And laugh all you want, I hope your breathing troubles don't keep you from posting...

Having said that, I do NOT agree with utgibbs about where he views the program had Fulmer not left.

Why does anyone bother even trying to have a coherent discussion with gibbs? The levels of delusion he reaches are unmatched.

is fulmer still lobbying behind the scenes to get the AD job? The new president is going to have to deal with him the first week on the job.

I honestly don't understand why CPF would want to tarnish his UT legacy by coaching at another college win or lose. He is UT and he should keep it that way and just retire. Howard Schnellenberger, Lou Holtz, Steve Spurrier (unless a miracle happens in SC) all have asterisks by there legacy IMO due to them going to other schools than where they became icons and sucking. I hope 'ol Phil doesn't follow in there footsteps. A NFL scout job or adviser maybe? And by the way, I don't see a scenario where he could come back to UT as long as we have Hambone as AD. I'm not sure how Bill Snyder going back to K-State will turn out overall.

And it was a better season than Florida or Georgia were able to do with more talent in 2007 in the SEC. Still a great season for any Vol fan not obsessed with hating Fulmer.

I'm guessing you did not witness the 2007 beatdowns in Gainesville & Tuscaloosa in person.

Humiliation is a tough pill to swallow.

I attended both games and I can honestly say those 2 games marked the beginning of the end for me.

57-20
41-17

2007 was an OK season, but to call it great is just not accurate.

Done a decent job at SC. I think he had about the same record as the ole ball coach.

I hate to correct you but worse than you posted. It was 59-20

A season is all the games, not just two games. Let me know when we can define 10 wins, an SEC title appearance, and a NYD bowl win as "just an OK" season again, because it will likely be another decade before we experience it, if then.

Yes; those wins over Southern Miss., Arkansas St., Louisiana-Lafayette, USCjr (6-6), Vanderbilt (5-7), and the all too familiar SECC game lose had me beaming with pride.

I haven't read the entire thread, but I would persnally like to see Fulmer as AD. Regardless what everyone says, Fulmer is a Vol through and through and will be great for the university. He should end his career in Knoxville.
Everyone on this board talks trash about Chavis also, but the last time I check his defense is number 1 in the SEC and when he was here we always had a top three defense even in our bad years that got Fulmer fired. Hiring Fulmer as AD would be a plus if Dooley ever wanted Chavis back as DC.
I know I am going to get bashed but I don't care. Facts is Facts.
