Fulmer Replacement

Here's a funny one for you td88....Mike Shula.

Good Lord. The last thing we would need is someone with no clue and that deer in the headlights look all the time.

Tennessee has been noted for bring up coaches within the school. Seeing that John Chavis has been there for 18 years or so and year in and year out has had a top notch defense, I think he would most likely get the job

Agreed.

Please, please. If Fulmer fails the VolNation again. Let's consider flushing the toliet completely. Get a new coach, one that's not so much inbred. Note: this does not exclude everyone on the UT Staff. Just how many of the UT Fans for decades made fun of Alabama for it's insistance on selecting an inbred Alabama relative. That is stated reluctantly, yet recognizing, even the strongest UT Fan has got to admit UA certainly has a more elite Football Family Tree than UT. And yes, I know Stallings was a UA product and now Shula. However, both of those individuals had vast football experiences outside of only one tired system! And to those not sold on Shula (myself included) one must realize the heavy obstacles he's had to move since being at AL.

I vote we seriously consider a young innovative, personable, attractive, aggressive coach that will flush out many of the regressive sets UT's offense has attempted for decades.

With all due respect to Coach Chavis as some one else suggested, I really can't see his personality (head to head) locking in highly recruited upper level talent over Urban M, Shula, Carroll, Stoops (x 2), Richt, Spurrier and possibly not even Orgie or Tubby plus many others.

Let's finally begin to think outside the box.

Can anyone relate to the Bruce Pearl selection? Aggressive, motivational, enthusiastic, progressive, open-minded, not afraid to try something new, you know where he stands, bold w an edge of arrogance, relates to his players, not to mention kindling re-newed interest in a near dead, boring, same old, same old routine (sound familiar) program.

What he said.

I'd say my first choice would be George O'Leary

I'm surprised no one mentioned former Bills assistant and Univ. of Tulsa Head Coach Steve Kragthorpe. I thought he was more impressive then George O'Leary, who he beat to win the Conference USA title. They also beat Fresno St in the Liberty Bowl, and this from a team that never qualifies for bowl games.

Yeah who really cares what a HC looks like?

Fulmer has recruited as well as anyone, looks have little to do with recruiting, coaching, etc.

Apparently alot of the people here would like to see TFHFCOTCBWWPEATHFCOTUMA become our new coach. The question is, if for some reason, Coach Fulmer is gone after the coming season, would TFHFCOTCBWWPEATHFCOTUMA be willing to consider coming to Knoxville.

I've erased Butch's time in Cleveland from my mind. I was wondering where the reference to Mike Ditka or Sam Wyche was coming from. Good one, MBRO.

If Fulmer were to step down, who would you want to replace him?

Butch Davis seems like a pretty viable candidate

IMO, you'd want to hire a coach who's got some strong major-college head coach or coordinator experience, or an NFL assistant--but who is somewhat //youthful//--and therefore hungry. I would not hire a veteran coach like Spurrier, even if he wanted the job--because his best coaching years are far behind him. You want somebody who's best coaching years are /ahead/ of him, and who's going to bust his a$$ for the program for 10 years. I'd also want somebody who was secure enuf, and smart enuf, to know that you've got to have absolutely first-rate coordinators--they are crucial. Fulmer, insecure, has been too insular. It's important to have a collegial staff, but better to have a good staff. I think Fulmer is a spent force--but like a lot of guys who've had some success, he will no doubt hang around much longer than he should. Hell, look at pa. state: They seem prepared to let joepa coach till he's 90 because he was successful in the 1970s--crazy is putting it politely; stupid, might be a better word.

Paterno was successful in the 70's, winning percentage wise, but his National Championships came in '82 and '84, and his Big 10 Championships came in '94 and....last year!

im not happy with the teams performance in recent years, but why are we attacking a coach who brought us a real nc. it has been 8 years yes i know, but ncs dont grow on trees. there are 100 some odd other schools trying to win to.

lets give him a break and let it unfold as it will, instead of guessing who is next and so on.

and if he does step down or get fired, u can take this to the bank. we will hire a ut alum. always will.

that is all i would want coaching this team. not some guy who has had stops at miami or the nfl. i want someone to take pride in this team and the university.
