Fulmer was on the verge of

Even if you hated him, it was hard not to find something to laugh at him about.

I'm not laughing, period, when we're getting thrashed like we have been the last 3 years. Every time I left Knoxville after a game during Dooley's tenure was one of the most pissed off nights of my life

Happens to every program on a yearly basis. I don't fault him too much for those guys bolting. Keep in mind, Croom and Ms Terry really liked Dools. Other players? Can't say.

those were also late adds when we had room in the class - he knew they were high risk but it didnt hurt that much b/c you didnt take a spot from someone else on any of those

he recruited a lot of good football players here - several in last year's draft and several more will be in this year's draft - he just couldnt coach worth ^$%*

That was just the names that popped into my head, there are a lot more. We had room for late adds due to striking out on targets. I agree though that coaching was a way bigger problem then recruiting.

Dooley was golden on Tuesday. Unfortunately, Saturday is the day when you really want your football coach to excel.

your right - the LB miss was the killer - the rest of the positions have talent - it will be interesting to see how much CBJ can get out of some of these guys that the fanbase has written off

No offense, but when I'm in search of comedy I prefer it not have anything to do with the team I devote so much of my loyalty to. Much rather wach some Chapelle.

Gonna miss him next week at SEC media days. If nothing else he was good for some laughs when he spoke. I'm as excited as anybody to have Butch Jones but I don't think he will be delivering any funny punch lines next week. The sad thing about Dooley was that the he was also putting a joke on the field. You have to admit he was a funny guy though. Let the bashing begin....just for bringing up Dools again.

Dooleyisms: Memorable sayings from former UT head coach Derek Dooley - YouTube

After media day everybody laugh there azz off at his football team rather than him, i didnt think it was to funny.:banghead2:

He did one good thing. Starting the VFL program. Cannot think of much else. He did have a few good one liners.

False. He cut way down the incidents of Vols players being constantly in the news for thuggish conduct. He actually recruited some fairly decent talent to the UT. He didn't pork some "thang" outside his marriage bringing further embarrassment to the university. He didn't strangle the UT with NCAA violations thus bringing further embarrassment to the university. He hasn't been spouting spite at the UT despite being vilified by so many fans. It's not that hard to think of something else when you lay determined negativism aside and look at something objectively or at least a semblance of fair play. It's a pity he couldn't coach, all the same.

I didn't find anything funny about the guy while he was our coach. It was all sad and tragic. But, much like slipping on a banana peel is funny to witness from afar (rather than experience), I will say that I'm finding Dooley funnier as time passes.

For instance, did anyone listen to today's Basilio show? They were talking about the best and worst coaches at UT. Beano named Dooley as the worst and then said that he had space for an honorable mention, but that would be Dooley as well. Then Tony described Dooley as "maybe the worst coach who ever lived." I couldn't help but laugh. I can't believe I spent years on here arguing with morons who thought that guy was building a dynasty.

Not well seeing that that "great" championship roster was completely gone by '10 and pretty much replaced by nothing thanks to Fulmer. I say "great" because they were beaten handily by a poor Cal team, thumped by the only two really good teams they played (UF/Bama), benefited from a tougher West schedule by UF, and pretty much beat no one who was very good unless you count UGA. Only Les Miles' coaching could make that CG close.

You are deluded if you think that "performance" was ANY indication that Fulmer had the program headed in the right direction... and even that was totally dependent on Cut saving Fulmer from his own pride and failings.
