Fulmer was on the verge of

SIAP. The OP didn't make this rumor up. At some point in December I heard this exact same thing on the radio. I never gave it much credit because I was sold on Gruden by our illustrious "insiders".

Either way, this is something that was said verbatim during the coaching search. I just don't remember where I heard it or whom said it. Do I believe it? In hindsight it seems at least as plausible as the Grumors if not more.
Neither scenario was ever going to happen. This thread is comic relief just like the Gruden threads.

Creating the best staff in America... When Fooley was fired and Hart was on a coaching search, it was rumored that Fulmer was pushing to get the job back. He had Chevous back as DC and was bringing in a new OC of BOBBY PETRINO! It was apparently all being organized and negotiated at Fulmers HOF banquet. Hart's hands were tied bc of how Fulmer and the big money in Knoxville don't get along. My source is a local vol in West Tn that actually played with Fulmer at UT. Chief did not want anything to do with the HC job and PETRINO would be able to ease his way bak into football without having to take a lesser HC job at a small school (which is why he is where he is now). PETRINO would basically be HC in waiting. ... This would have been amazing. BUT, with that said, I am very please with Butch and company. Go Vols

Fulmer was on the verge of another 5 years of ALMOST winning big again. Look, I appreciate and love what Fulmer did the first 10 years, yet it became obvious that without Cut there wasn't enough discipline and focus on the team. Fulmer did great and then faded, which happens to everyone at some point. Move on.

There was NEVER a discussion. And the "money" people loved Fulmer and still do. This entire thing is bs and I'm surprised this thread hasn't been deleted yet.

Do you understand VN? We are all going to fade.

I certainly cannot debate that conclusion.

What I can say for certain is that this is not the first time I have heard this "rumor". If you repeat something often enough, it becomes true, right? ;)

Snyder left a winner and came back a winner. I don't see the connection.

THere is none. Snyder got some pressure from some quarters. Some thought that a younger coach could take KSU the next step. But he wasn't fired outright iirc... nor did he drive the program into the ground before leaving. Prince was actually set up very well.

But Snyder left KSU at a much higher level than Fulmer left UT.

Gonna miss him next week at SEC media days. If nothing else he was good for some laughs when he spoke. I'm as excited as anybody to have Butch Jones but I don't think he will be delivering any funny punch lines next week. The sad thing about Dooley was that the he was also putting a joke on the field. You have to admit he was a funny guy though. Let the bashing begin....just for bringing up Dools again.

I don't miss him. His jokes were funny at first, but then they quickly became un-funny when he put, as you said, a joke on the field.

The problem with losing is that it doesn't matter what you say....you're looked at as a loser. If you are winning, you can get away with saying virtually anything.

Remember the time when CDD came in to lead the Volunteers to a comeback victory in the Bourbon Bowl?...Of course you don't

Somebody's gonna have to coach up this thread.

Wish he was as quick of wit on the sideline as he was in front of media. With ya OP that he was humorous. As far as missing him..not so much.
