Creating the best staff in America... When Fooley was fired and Hart was on a coaching search, it was rumored that Fulmer was pushing to get the job back. He had Chevous back as DC and was bringing in a new OC of BOBBY PETRINO! It was apparently all being organized and negotiated at Fulmers HOF banquet. Hart's hands were tied bc of how Fulmer and the big money in Knoxville don't get along. My source is a local vol in West Tn that actually played with Fulmer at UT. Chief did not want anything to do with the HC job and PETRINO would be able to ease his way bak into football without having to take a lesser HC job at a small school (which is why he is where he is now). PETRINO would basically be HC in waiting. ... This would have been amazing. BUT, with that said, I am very please with Butch and company. Go Vols
Let me answer with another question. Without knowing his name, but knowing his record 152-52 in the SEC, HOF, and NC. Would you want him for a coach?
Majors won three SEC titles to 2 for Fulmer. He won back to back ones 3 years before Phil was hired as head coach. If Reggie Cobb doesn't discover coke, UT would have won the 89 NT. Please don't act like some of these morons who think UT was nothing before Fulmer.

That is why I ask it, Butch is doing a good job recruiting, but we have no idea if he will be as good as Fulmer. Nobody in this forum will argue that and if this scenario was really a chance and I doubt it was...still if it was I would take it with that staff.
Was Fulmer really that good of a coach? Or did he surround himself with successful coordinator's? I think Fulmer was mediocre coach that had some good coordinator's that helped him out big time during the good times. Another Fulmer downfall was the recruiting pipeline. When Richt came in and kept a lot of Georgia's talent in state, and with South Carolina's program improving we lost a lot of our recruiting territory.
