'17 GA ATH DeAngelo Gibbs

I was told earlier in this thread that Georgia has no chance and that Gibbs is a Vol and always has been a Vol. Gibbs is keeping a very low profile with his recruitment so I don't know what the basis is for those absolute type statements. As a rule of thumb, when it comes to recruiting it's a good idea to think in terms of the staff locking down your state and then taking swings for out of state kids, knowing that there will be some misses on some out of state kids.

It would probably be smart to keep in mind that Gibbs has publicly said that he didn't have a dream school growing up. He was born and raised in Georgia. His best friend and teammate is Breon Dixon; a Georgia commit. His cousin JR Reed; who he trained with in Dallas for the past five or six years, just committed to Georgia. Gibbs considers JR Reed's dad; Jake Reed, a second father figure. He has publicly said he loves Kirby and Mel Tucker. Add it all up and it likely means that Georgia is still in this one. If he signs with Tenn then my hats off to Butch and his staff, because the facts I just listed are a lot to overcome for any coach.

Finally there are the academics; and I'm not sure which school Gibbs is favoring academically. His mom and family in general are very big on academics and I expect that will play a big role in his recruitment; and could swing things towards one school or another.

You guys are probably in the lead. Not getting him would be a major disappointment for GA given that he is instate, relatives to play with, and much closer to home.

This is all great and I am sure helps you sleep but you leave out some important tidbits.

His cousin who he grew up with and is like his brother. Who he has said for a long time he wants to play with at the next level, wears Orange now.

The most important piece, OV says hes a Vol and it would take something drastic to change that.

As much as I want him in the class, I don't have him in my current prediction. Not impossible, but I think we're behind. Pitts is hanging out there. If the staff wants another S, even if it isn't Gibbs, Pitts might be that guy.

Any updates in Gibbs other than he loves GAs current recruiting class.

Knew your true colors would pop out...fake nice guy. :). Been holding all that resentment in for a good while, huh? :wink2:

Too many people on here don't want to admit that Kirby Smart is a good recruiter. It would help if we beat them in Athens.

He has always been regarded as a good recruiter...never heard anybody say otherwise on here. So by "admit", I'm not sure what you need from us...GUSHING? Only caveat is that there is a big difference from recruiting as an assistant and running the whole show as the big guy...consistently over a period of time. Looking great so far but maybe let him SIGN his FIRST CLASS and a few others before we coronate him.

I'd say UGA is in the lead based on your post

Gibbs hasn't really named a leader. It sounds like it's going to come down to Tenn, Georgia; and maybe Bama. I don't ever count out Bama. I still think academics will play a roll and as I said, I'm not sure what he wants to major in. Regardless of where Gibbs chooses to go, he has shown respect for every program that he is considering; which is always good to see from kids who go through the recruiting process. Gibbs has been prepped really well on how to handle the recruiting process by his parents and Jake Reed. Jake Reed has been a very positive influence on him.

Same info as Tee so TIFWIW?

Exactly. At this point there is no such thing as a sure thing anymore. Insiders can have all the info they want but the only person who knows the real story is the kid himself.

I'm still hopeful that we land Gibbs, but insider commentary no longer makes me feel any better about our chances.

Link? I'd like to read that, quick google mentions nothing of him saying they are like brothers nor have I read it. I'd like to bookmark it.

Knew you would have something to say about my post. Feel free to post some actual content. My last post is loaded with fact based content that many people who follow recruiting appreciate. Sounds like you're the one with resentment issues; as there is nothing in my last post that has an inkling of resentment. I've been clear that I'm a Georgia fan...but I have family in Tenn that have been Vol fans longer than most people on here have been alive. My wife has an aunt, uncle and two cousins who are life long Clemson fans. The owner of a local flooring store where I buy flooring from is a Bama fan. My wife's co-worker is another big Clemson fan; etc, etc. We all get along just fine.

I'm not sure that Orange Venom has ever been wrong with a Georgia recruit. I'll roll with him until he changes his tune...VOL.

Pretty sure he was being facetious. Relax.

In an interview in 2015 Gibbs was asked about Warriors comment that the two were a package deal. Gibbs basically said that he's going to make his own decision, but yeah; playing with Warrior would be cool and could happen. In that particular interview it was clear that the package deal idea originated from Warrior. My guess is that Gibbs is going to make his own decision. Could be Tenn, could be Georgia, could be Bama. I wouldn't even be surprised if Clemson worked their way into the mix.

Yeah I keep seeing people say he was wrong on Tee but I don't remember him ever commenting on him

Can't speak in absolutes because it's definitely possible to miss stuff around here but I really don't remember him making any predictions on non-GA kids, but especially not about Tee.

Let's be real: this one could go either way. He's close to relatives in both programs, likes both coaching staffs, has spent time at both campuses and appreciates each school's facilities. IDT being from GA is going to be the deciding factor in this one.

Ok, I can admit I have issues with Georgia and Bammers and pretty much hate your teams and you guys I don't know. The ones who post such crap as their own opinions and call them facts while ridiculing the actual Vol's fans on the Vol message more deserve to be hated and hated with the vengeance and revenge in mind to break the center kumm boys freaking leg.

Peddigo forever
