'17 GA ATH DeAngelo Gibbs

Wow, so now that we still only have a chance for Trey Smith/Chandler we are all making excuses for all the instate talent going elsewhere-- Butch didn't really want them or recruit them hard!? Really? What happened to Butch putting up a wall around the state? We have the best crop of talent in years in the state and now that we are not in it for most (for whatever reason) folks are making excuses I guess to make them feel better and now say "Butch didn't really want them, and didn't really go after them".... wow....delusional... why can't people just except that maybe the staff didn't do a great job, maybe dropped the ball, or something else came into play by us not getting top tier instate talent besides "he didn't really want them or go after them"... Ron you are always the Man on here and I respect everyone's opinion, but come on... and now Kristy has an excuse for every single kid we seem to be missing on right down to "Daddy issues"... incredible. It's also funny those that post a lot on here can act so defensive if someone else has a different opinion or jokingly calls them out... I'm sorry, I forgot that since you have so many posts, you can never be wrong or even questioned... In one post you say Gibbs is the #1 player and Kirby's a pretty good recruiter so its that simple... yet you won't concede that Butch is also a good recruiter and we are missing out on top talent, but that is only because they have good excuses and Butch didn't want them and apparently recruiting in GA is different than recruiting in TN.... SMH.... GFW was right, this board has gotten out of control this summer.

The irony of this sentence at the end of this statement is strong. . .

Of course CBJ wanted to sell staying home this year. This is the first year our state has had a lot of talent. It may not have worked out as well as hoped (although I still see Higgins as the only loss so far), but there is not one school that can build a complete fence around their state. It doesn't happen. We lose some from our state. We pluck some from other states. We build a strong class. And we move on.

I'm betting that Gibbs and his cousin Reed going to UGA has more to do with the NFL than anything. Smart and Mel Tucker are both DB coaches with NFL experience. In fact, UGA has about 4 guys with NFL experience, whereas we have 1 (Debord).

I'm not as aware of any NFL background for Clemson's staff but they have recent success to point to.

As far as the Jones rumors are concerned, I'd like to know what Larry's heard about the situation lately since UT finally settled the lawsuit and is sending Cheek and perhaps even Hart packing. These steps could go a long way toward mending the types of things LWS was referring to.

Can I get cliffs on Larry's comments? This is the first I've heard of it. Been away from the board for a while.

From the FF forum:

He has aspirations to get to the league. Win east might do it.

But Larry is not a confidant of Jones. This is hearsay - rumor. I'd say a lot of coaches would consider coaching in the NFL as "making it." Less work and often more money. Doesn't mean it will happen or that Jones would want to.

You're a clever guy. Usually precise figures aren't preceded by "I'd say maybe."

Nice work!

So "maybe" 75 out of 100 fans wait until NSD to comment or care? More than that in this THREAD! :w00t: Think we have to win games or no? :). And thanks...solemn thanks... for calling my work...solid. :huggy:

There are no excuses. Butch is a great recruiter and will figure it out. He has proven that- we don't have to hope. Just like every other recruiter, he will miss some, too. He has missed some this year. So what? People want to ***** and moan because that is what our society likes to do these days. His roster turnaround has been phenomenal. Now it's time to show it on the field.

I think generally those 75 only care with very passing interest on NSD.

But yeah, they are not going to be in a recruiting forum talking about recruiting. Just like you're not going to find me in a baseball forum talking about baseball, because I have a very passing interest in it. I may watch a game or two during the World Series, but other than that, if you tell me who won, I'm fine.

It would logically follow that the people in the recruiting forum then, would care about following the entire recruiting cycle, on commenting on both ups and downs.

Been here awhile. It's cluttered. How's that for logic?

Also, Larry has never given me any reason to doubt him, but I've never seen any evidence that he has inside NFL connections. It takes two to tango, and I'm not sure Butch would be high on an NFL GMs list.

And that's not to knock Butch. College hires in the NFL go in cycles, and the most recent ones, Chip Kelly, Greg Schiano, etc., didn't work out so well. You always hear rumors of an NFL team's interest in Saban or Meyer, but who knows how far those get. Different calibers of coaches too.

Woody (Rivals) just said on his podcast that he expects Gibbs to pop before the season, says it's done,

That said, I don't like Woody, never have, and a lot of times he is wrong. JMO tho.

As far a BJ leaving for the NFL, no way it is this year and would mean BJ has 3 or 4 great years at Tn. NFL isn't hiring a 21-17 coach from college. Make the CFB playoffs a couple straight years and maybe.

Last I checked we have 5 kids from TN on the commit list and should add at least two more. 7 instate is a pretty good number considering the instate talent. Sure we missed on a couple, it happens. Win some lose some, that's recruiting. We'll still end up top 10. And after we win the East we'll end up top 5.

And then next summer when we miss on a big target we can have this same argument again. Happens every year!

We will need to tell ~15 current commits to leave in able to get to the top 5

Less than that! More like 8-10 commits than 15. Plus, we will need at least one more 5* & a couple more 4* players to boot. That would get us borderline top 5. More like top 10 somewhere in the #8-#9 range.

Playing time, new coach. Similar to when Butch came

I still think these elite players are waiting to see if vols get over the hump because if we cant do it this year its going tell recruits alot.....if we cant do it this year then when. Alot of guys are taking this approach. They may be committed elsewhere holding there spot and will circle back around if we win big if not they will probably stay where they are i gues 6 to 7 if not 10 will be cycled out or will leave on there own but we have to win big

You kind of neutralized your own point there. The elite guys AREN'T waiting around, they are committing elsewhere. Elite guys typically don't need to commit somewhere to hold a spot. I don't think that's it at all.

I hope UGA gets trounced this season to cast doubt on Kirby.

I know they have some holes, but they have nothing but top 10 classes in recent memory

Agreed sir...absolutely and thin on dline due to leaving for nfl and seniors but thats it....so i dont want hear recruiting flaws from previous staff they have tons of talent and in my opinion matches ours

Does Gibbs really want to see us beat Georgia in Athens again this year? Smart will fail at UGA.

I dont believe smart fails at worst he will be a mark richt just my opinion. Unlike saban desciples i do believe he was groomed much better and knows what takes to win also if he keeps ga kids going to uga he will always be tough
