'20 GA QB Harrison Bailey (UT SIGNEE)

This irony is lost on many folks. We respect coaches wanting to see kids in person but roll eyes when scouts want to? Makes sense. I think it makes good sense for any and all people evaluating human athleticism to want to see them in person. Film be grainy dude.
Makes perfect sense. Coaches coach and develop, scouts look for talent and journal to the masses for money. The two aren’t on equal footing, in the ballpark, or even the same sport when comparing and evaluating talent.

You are going to defend “journalist” scouting services as validation for player rankings, you’ve held firm to that point. What is irony is one can believe that universities are corrupt and throw bags, yet not believe recruiting services aren’t dirty. 🤷‍♀️

Meh, I don't necessarily disagree, but who cares? 3 years from now, no one is going to care where Bailey was ranked. We're going to care how he plays. What does it really matter if the recruiting services, which are frequently wrong, misrank Bailey?
Unfortunately other recruits listen, and they tend to join other highly sought after recruits.

Recruiting services are a sham. A guy jumps almost 200 slots because he ran fast on a track and did well in 7 on 7? Simmons, 247 and the other ranking services are a joke. Commit to Bama, Georgia, Clemson, or a few other faves and you automatically shoot up the board.

Honestly, if a recruiting service wants to be taken seriously they shouldn’t even touch the rankings until after the football season. They should leave the rankings alone during the spring and summer while taking note of camp standouts and combine that with on field play at seasons end. The current system is simply a joke and doesn’t make any actual sense
The recruiting systems with their model is the equivalent to credit Karma with credit checks...

Recruiting services are usually right

I really couldn't agree more. Bailey is easily a top 50 talent & I'm proud to have him committed to UT.

I think he has some very valid points in there, especially concerning his OL. But when it comes to rankings, he mentions dropping 90 spots and then says he won a Rivals camp MVP...when it was 247 that dropped him, and 247 is not going to follow a halfarsed Rivals camp that barely featured anyone.

He either doesn't understand recruiting rankings or is just confused. I'm sure he means well, so I'll assume the latter and give him benefit of the doubt.

Those that say they distrust the rankings complain about the negatives the most. And don't post about the positives (Cooper?). The irony is hilarious. I guess the LotM is still strong. I'm going to keep positive on these Vols. These guys coming in will do well regardless of rankings and the LotM, because they have the right coaches in place. This staff is for real. No matter what the mob here believes. And the staff is all that matters. Not these negas and their constant complaining.

Truth. Those teams' "5 stars" are more like 3 stars in reality. Their talent is obviously an illusion. That is why they are so bad on the field. Listen to yourself...come back to reality.

Wait. Are there actually adult aged fans who literally give a rats arse what ranking a commitment is given, as if it actually has real meaning to anything of value? Seriously?

It is for fans. And some eat it up. And take it real seriously. And whine over it.

That said, SweetAsSoda made a good point, which is kids follow the rankings. And follow "star" kids. So it does have some effect, in a really effed up way.
