'20 GA QB Harrison Bailey (UT SIGNEE)

Honestly, if a recruiting service wants to be taken seriously they shouldn’t even touch the rankings until after the football season. They should leave the rankings alone during the spring and summer while taking note of camp standouts and combine that with on field play at seasons end. The current system is simply a joke and doesn’t make any actual sense

They do film study of tons of players over the Spring. Educate yo self. People keep spouting this nonsense and just show how ignorant they are lol.

Makes perfect sense. Coaches coach and develop, scouts look for talent and journal to the masses for money. The two aren’t on equal footing, in the ballpark, or even the same sport when comparing and evaluating talent.

You are going to defend “journalist” scouting services as validation for player rankings, you’ve held firm to that point. What is irony is one can believe that universities are corrupt and throw bags, yet not believe recruiting services aren’t dirty. 🤷‍♀️

I don't disagree they are not on the same footing. I never said that. I simply said one thing - seeing athletes in person helps evaluation. Does anyone disagree with that? No need to put words in my mouth.

Bailey will not be in town this weekend. Is traveling to California. Tried to sort through all of the other messages before to see if you guys knew about this or not but wasn’t going back that far.

I’m not sure I agree with the narrative of HB having a bad O line. You dont get that highly ranked (13) as a team with a bad o line in the state of Georgia. Can’t convince me of that. I watched the game posted and did see a few occasions of missed blocks but overall it looked like “decent” protection against a blitz heavy d.

always do playa
I’ll give you credit. You’ve always called it the way you see it. I just didn’t see the same things and like I said... you don’t get ranked 13 in the state of Georgia with a bad o line and we’ll say SLIGHTLY mobile qb.

Are we talking about the entire game or just the second half?

I'll admit I skipped through and looked for him passing. I watched 4 or 5 passing plays in total, but every single time he was getting blitzkrieged. Maybe that was a poor overall representation, but it was very consistent at least in my small sample.

Maybe you just landed in the right spots to make it look that way. I just see a false narrative being created. Did Greyson get to him a little faster than most teams? Very possible. But to create the idea throughout VN that he has a BAD O line I feel is inaccurate ranked #13 in a state known for being a hotbed for talent. I was looking at the o line but I didn’t count it out like I normally do so I’m sure I’m wrong on a few plays though.

You've seen them in person right? You and olb have very different opinions then on the ol for both seeing live games. Nothing wrong with that and could be anecdotal in nature, but that diversity in opinion is interesting at least.

Unfortunately other recruits listen, and they tend to join other highly sought after recruits.

To some extent, but they don't really care if 247 drops a guy 3 spots in the rankings. Most of these recruits know each other and have even played with each other in some of the camps. Sure, they might put more stock in a guy with a 4- or 5-star rating than a 2-star, but they aren't sitting around saying "well I wanted to play with Harrison when he was ranked #134 but not now that he's only rated #142. " I just don't think it matters much except for fan perception.

Take a look back at some of the previous classes and plenty of busts and also guys that were only ranked as the #12 or #16 QB who ended up being great. In the 2015 class, Sam Darnold was only rated as the #12 QB behind Blake Barnett, Brandon Wimbush, Travis Jonsen, Deondre Francois, and Ricky Town (who Darnold unexpectedly beat out for the starting job at USC). Our highest rated QB from that class, btw, was Jauan Jennings.

Maybe Bailey is underrated; maybe he's not; but he's set with us, and it doesn't really matter if he's the #79 or #153 rated recruit in the grand scheme of things.

But is it 'us', or some other reason they decided they didn't like the recruit? If this is really systemic because of UT, that should be very easy to prove. Stats don't lie...wait, actually they do...but still, it should be pretty clear in the ranking history. With regard to HB, the services starting getting chubbies over him when he was quite young (ok...that didn't sound good) and then as they saw him more, some cooled and some didn't. That doesn't sound like a "we hate UT" thing.

And for the record, I'm ambivalent over the services. I think they do ok, but I trust coaches more. Services are businesses, and vendettas are bad for business, but they also have people, and people can be dumb.
It is what they do to the top guys in our class that proves it..

Some guys will point to the low ranked guys that commit to us getting bumps, not usually gigantic bumps, but bumps nonetheless, to disprove the theory. .

But considering what happened to our four best signees last year, (And Bailey this year) It really strains logic to deny that something stinks in Denmark..

Morris, Wright, Crouch and To'oto'o were all robbed.
