I WISH TENNESSEE WENT 5-7. GOT POWERBOMBED AT HOME BY BAMA. AND HAD A SHINY NEW #5 NEXT TO THEIR RECRUITING CLASS… O BOY I WISH WE HAD FREEZE. I WISH OUR NIL CANNON WOULD FIRE BLINDLY INTO THE VORTEX OF RANDOMIZED 4 STARS SO WE COULD SCREENSHOT IT AND TWEET IT. THAT WOULD BE SO MUCH BETTER THAN HOSTING A PLAYOFF GAME WOULDNT IT?????? WHAT ELSE CAN WE COMPLAIN ABOUT??? FOR THE LOVE OF GOD BURN THE PROFRAM DOWN NOOOOOW
You just broke that damn caps button off didn’t you? 😂

So boosters thinking hey, let’s shell out more money to attract better players is somehow a bad thing?
It is if it’s disorganized bag-throwing. Tennessee, Texas, Oregon, and others are known for being very systematic and meticulous about NIL. To wish that UT would operate otherwise is shortsighted and self-defeating.

Safety is a very important position, just like all positions on a football team. That is why it’s called a team. One of the reasons we lost to Georgia was because they were to isolated their receivers on our safeties who were unable to cover them on deep routes. They scored two of their second half TDs on those plays.
They scored a total of 2 TDs in the 2nd half. One was the Carson Beck run which the DLineman that was there to make the play got held egregiously and it didn’t get called. That’s how Beck scored on that play. Other defenders were in coverage.

Sounds like kid wanted guaranteed playing time early with little/no competition. He will get it in Gainesville. Too bad Lagway is to Napier as Dobbs was to Butch. The only guy keeping him employed. Not to mention that entire athletic department is in shambles and the AD has a 1ft leash.
Billy may keep his job, but I’m surprised if Lagway isn’t shopping around. He could earn a king’s ransom for the hype he has built himself by playing hard against Georgia before going down to self injury, early in the game.

If I was Shane Beamer, I’d be telling Lagway the only thing Beamer Ball 2.0 is missing is Vick 2.0.

Nope. They're not my team. But I do know Napier could have easily lost his team this season, but he pulled them together. They had some big wins. Now he's tearing it up on the recruiting trail. He's not the bad coach everyone wanted to believe he was. They may not be great next year, but they will be dangerous.
Yeah ... They pulled it together enough to have a magical 7-5 season. And tearing it up on the recruiting trail? Get real.

Here’s the deal though. I’ve followed recruiting for a long time. The difference is very thin.

According to On3, Auburn is 5th with one 5 star and fifteen 4 stars. We are 9th with one 5 star and 12 4 stars. That’s a difference of three 4 stars on an 85 man roster, knowing that some of those 3 stars will be solid contributors. Sure, sometimes UGA and Bama are on another level. But when you get past the elite classes, the next tier or two are mostly similar. Then, it’s about development. If we stay near the top ten on a regular basis and maybe get a top 7 every so often, we will be fine competing for titles in a 12 team playoff.
Not to mention we will still be down 2 scholarships this coming year. Thanks Cornbread!

End of the day, and people are going to hate hearing this, but we need to recruit better. We're a playoff team, yet we're getting out recruited by Auburn and about to be passed by Florida. I love Coach Heupel. I'm not screaming for blood or for anyone to get fired. But he has to figure out why teams that are worse than us are out recruiting us. It's bad enough that Georgia and Bama are still getting almost whoever they want. But when teams that have not been good this year are out recruiting us, that's not good. The fact so many of you are not wanting to see this is baffling. If our goal is to win championships, which it should be, we need to recruit better.
I hear people keep saying “we need to recruit better.” Cool story. But let’s be serious, how do we “just recruit better”? We are in the SEC. We are recruiting against Bama, UGA, UF, TX, OU, TAMU, LSU and even Ole Miss to a degree. So what do you do?

Supposedly we have top notch NIL. I am still skeptical about that. It’s obvious we don’t have boosters like other schools that just give a blank check to get who you need. So that’s out. We have been winning more in the past few years than we have in some time. So is that really helping? Not really. We always hear about getting top notch QBs help recruiting. We have done that, has it helped? Doesn’t seem like it.

So what’s the realistic solution to recruit better? You can’t just make guys come here. We have free agency now. Everybody pays. Michigan just paid almost $13 million for Bryce Underwood. So I am curious as to what Heupel and this staff is supposed to do?

For one thing, you should wait until the class is finished before whining ... and for another thing, there just isn't that much difference between the 6th ranked class and the 12th ranked class in most years.

What are you talking about? Tennessee's recruiting has been better .... It sounds like you only pay attention to the rankings list.

Exactly. Tennessee is recruiting well. I hate that we lost Hayward, but let's see how he will be replaced.

UT is also closer to those recruits in NC and Georgia than Oregon is to the recruits in California.

I’m really tired of people trying to use the geography excuse for UT, then changing the standard for others. Where are the powerhouse schools in NC? Virginia? Georgia is closer to UT than California is to Oregon. And UGA can’t take them all. UT has Atlanta, Charlotte, and Nashville all within a 3-4 hour radius. Oregon has nothing near that kind of talent in such a close radius. Oh, and Cincinnati is also in that radius.

UT is situated in a great spot, geographically. Much better than Oregon is.
When is the last time UT got a great recruit from Cincinnati?

It’s been like this forever. Fulmer recruited well, but let’s face it, UGA and Clemson weren’t nearly the powerhouses.

UT is fine and will get good players, but the response was about Oregon. Dan Lanning is a great recruiter. What’s so hard to understand why their brand recruits well? Pretty easy to see, and this isn’t their first rodeo.

The topic wasn’t about brands or Lanning’s recruiting ability. It was about the relative advantage of recruiting geography between the 2 schools.

Yes, there is more competition in the South, because there is better talent here. Look at how hard USC came into the south to recruit this cycle. They could have just stayed in California. But frankly, California talent is overrated. They were trying to get elite talent. Tennessee is situated closer to better talent than Oregon is. That’s the point.
