'25 GA S Lagonza Hayward (Florida)

AP said on the pod today that Hayward never even gave UT a chance to counter offer or anything. Wouldn't listen to UT. This isn't worth crying over. We have a good group of young men.
Which gives credence to @dascoop ’s quote. He felt like he had been lied to by us and shut it down. Someone got in his ear about something.

The continued recruitment of Merritt?
Not sure but I'd welcome the help and the "iron sharpens iron" benefit. If the staff told him he was the safety or only safety they were recruiting, I could understand him having hard feelings but that shouldn't be a deal breaker imo if you're as good as advertised. Plus I don't think Merritt would really eat into his PT. They are different style of players with elite athleticism. One is more of a pure safety, star/in the box type player on defense and the other you can put at corner, safety or star.

I doubt he felt he had been “lied to” about anything. He just got paid more to go to Florida and whoever set this up got paid in the process. His family were decked out in Tennessee gear 24 hrs before he made the Florida visit, none of the staff knew of the visit, he never bothered to contact the staff afterwards to make any effort to reconcile any perceived issues. Kid is FOS and got called out on it by most of our class. Florida saved money spent on buying out one reptile to purchase another.

Nobody lied to him. Making the person or entity you screwed over out as a villain is a defense mechanism. I'm sure they threw something at him that would appeal to a 17yo....who knows, they may be spending money they don't have again.

Yeah one thing that's been universal with this staff concerning recruiting is that they are honest and upfront to prospects.

The irony of this entire thing is Florida is the one that made news for lying about NIL to Rashada. I’d love to have an athlete like him in the back field but Hueple and Co have emphasized locker room cohesion and it’s been working so having someone like that would be against what they’re going for

Yeah to be clear I wasn’t saying that our staff did lie. I was saying that the kid may believe because someone else tricked him.

This de-commitment and Utu where the ones that really hurt out of all of them. I really viewed them as key players on the future roster. It's easy to be mad at them but I'm sure they had their reasons and I think we often talk too negatively about recruits that decommit or hit the portal. I know a few people that have hit the portal and they where just super nice people that thought it was the smart move.

Florida has always been in the back of my mind. When they played Tennessee and went to overtime against them at Neyland Stadium, I was like, 'Hold on.'"

Lol
If the results of one game changed your mind then you probably should not have been "committed" in the first place. Oh well. Hope Sun Belt Billy forgets to sign his NIL check and he transfers in the spring portal window.

Me neither!;)
