Game Thread: #20 Lady Vols v #16 Ohio State: Sunday Dec 3 @ 5PM; Home, ESPN

more along the lines of the second one
Even without RJ, I had higher hopes for this team
and more so for this coach....I truly want/wanted Kellie to be the one since
I saw her as a PG in the SEC 96 tourney and always loved her confidence
But, like Holly, she will not put an Alpha as an assistant,,,and I truly believe that is what is missing

We need a more demanding, tough-minded coach, but your constant reference to "alpha" coaches and players has become a bit tiresome,
if I may say so.

Our big problems are:

1) we play too slowly on offense . Our player and ball movement are too slow, and we don't pass the ball well consistently, which leads to turnovers. We have been a bad moving and passing team for MANY years. We don't play offense with a team purpose. In every game against a quality opponent, the opponent has a better assist/turnover ratio than we do.We consistently have 20 turnovers. You're not going to beat quality opponents with 20 TOs.

OSU: 16 assists, 12 TOs
UT: 12 assists, 20 TOs

2) The second offensive problem is that we can't make threes. 5 for 27 yesterday. That is absolutely terrible. If we'd made 10 of 27, that would still be a low shooting percentage but the game would have been much closer. Part of the issue here may trace back to poor/slow ball movement, which can mean that the shots we do take are sometimes/often rushed. Quality opponents almost always shoot at a higher overall percentage than we do.

On defense, our big problem yesterday and in other games is that our rebounding is bad. We gave up 17 offensive rebounds to OSU yesterday.

Basic problems that we see week after week---and the TO and shooting and general offensive problems we see year after year--and add up to a bad basketball team. Jackson would help, of course, but she also just masks our poor team fundamentals.

Can you name just one with such a personality, Alpha or not, in the last two staffs?
I'll wait...
the traits you just recommended are Alpha traits

Are you seriously content with the current coaching staff?

Not at all content with the current status. But realistic enough to not overreact to one horrible game. Stanford lost by 19 yesterday to an unranked team. CONN lost by 12 (after trailing by as much as 18) and sits at 4-3 despite having two of ESPN's top 13 players on the court along with other 5-star, top 10 recruits.

Let's see how the season plays out.

Which of the last 3 games do you consider to be horrible, and which 2 are acceptable?

"the rest of the Story"..................how did that year finish out............AND it told the future.
Why is it so hard to admit that for some reason we need to see the program die in front of us.......that neither Holly or Kellie is going to get the job done?????

"That year" finished out with a third-place SEC finish and Tennessee's first trip to the Sweet Sixteen since 2016...the latter with Jordan Horston sitting out the tournament with her arm in a sling and Rae Burrell at about 60% Not to mention being without court leader Keyen Green due to season-ending injury.

And it's not just that those games were lost, but how they were lost. Same as it ever was, t.o.s, sloppy, poor shooting, ya'll sadly know the drill.. Reinforced a neg image instead of forming a positive one. Even the game we won was a slopfest that we thankfully eked out. And all on nat tv, amid already dismal recruiting. With our all star sitting in purgatory. Not sure what part of that brings anyone comfort.

And I'll love having this post thrown in my face if a miracle turn around happens, but you have to be pretty willingly blind to not see the repetitive writing on the wall here.

Big difference is, UConn and Stanford have much more recent successes than we have, therefore not needing to prove themselves as much as us. They can stand the occasional bad game, even bad season. But for us, this four game stretch was the difference maker in turning our image around (and for tourney seeding) and to put it politely, it did not go well.

Blowing a 16 pt second half lead at home to a team down several starters was pretty horrible too.

It was extremely disappointing. But I'd wager that it's not at all uncommon for teams to make that sort of comeback (whether at home or away) when both teams are fairly evenly matched. We were down several starters, too, if that even matters when comparing.

It wasn't an "acceptable" result by Lady Vol standards, but neither were Stanford's or CONN's results yesterday. Without Edwards yesterday, CONN woukd have been run out of the gym completely.

I was thinking during the ND game that even if we pulled it out (if Sara's shot had fallen and we had clised out), it still wouldn't have been "satsfying" since we should never have been there. Regardless, we don't cancel the rest of the season.

A few posters are wanting to sack the current staff immediately. You think that's the answer?

I'm not defending the staus quo or saying that changes shouldn't be made depending upon program evaluation. But there are sone here who have opposed CKH since her hiring. There was every reason for optimism a couple of years ago, and the portal recruiting offset much of the failure to land the h.s. big fish. Regardless, some posters acted as though they could foresee blood clits and other injuries that hampered our program as well as the parity thathas caused so many upsets elsewhere. They should have been more specific with their prognostications.

To be fair, I thought they should have been last year or at least given the fall on the sword staff change.

I was not one who was opposed to her hiring at first, but now it appears those who were are smarter than the rest of us, also don’t think you meant to say “blood clits”

Let's pretend you are the A.D. conducting a HC search.

What are the bottom line standards that MUST be achieved within four years in order for a new hire to retain the job?

Seems we just have to accept that this team without Jackson is not a top 25 team. Hopefully her return will boost the level of play back up to top 20 level. I still believe the supporting cast with Jackson can be better, along with Key's improving play.

This situation sure shines the spot light on a lot of the players and coaches as to their real level of abilities.
