I thought Spearman might start over Whitehorn just based on CKC's comments leading up to this game. She kept saying Ruby was one of the players who would "figure it out" mid-season and then just really take off, so I assumed maybe something hadn't clicked for her yet (and maybe it hasn't - she's just still too good to keep on the bench anyway!).

Yep. I saw you predicted a traditional big in the starting 5, and wondered if I was off base. I know you follow this stuff close. But that is not how this coach rolls It appears. I figured she would go with the alpha types. I think she favors speed and athleticism above height and it looks good to be sure. Peace Trav, enjoy your comments always. what a team atmosphere building around this years version of the LV’s, it’s real.

LV’s are actually not small as a team, one of the bigger teams in the SEC overall. Their best players are lengthy at their spots, but they are finally elite in athleticism and speed again. Will take a great effort by opposing teams to defeat this squad.

If our bigs can make shots at the pace our guards do I think most SEC teams will have trouble. This conference is built on dominant bigs who need to translate to position less basketball in the pros . I like the direction the LVs are taking it’s all about the effort on defense with the press and REBOUNDING STILL!

Actually, the SEC is this year built upon great guard play and few SEC teams will rely on a big type centered offense in 2024-25. Beers at OK might be a focal point of their offense, but they are still a 3pt shooting offense in nature. What other SEC team might be a big/center focused team? Not LSU or SC this season, and not Texas.

Well this years SEC is not that huge compared to the past but the physicality will matter

Texas has Aaliyah Moore what! Oklahoma with beers yes but let’s not act like SC and LSU’s quarter of posts are slew foot Tierra McCowans . The past bruising in the post may be less but our posts are not better than the others when it come to getting in the true paint , so they will def need to maintain this level if even more against the big names. Not just Carson newman tire the sec out and go for it CKC!

I don’t know where this idea of this team being small started but it’s rather strange. You are right in pointing out the length of this team.
Jill, Ruby, Spearman, Coop, Latham, and Boyd all have good length.
Spear, Ayodele, Spencer, and Puckett are pretty sturdy.
They’re a tough matchup.

SC is the early favorite to win the conference, and they don’t have a dominant big this season, especially with Watkins likely out for the year. Neither does LSU or Texas and those are supposedly the top three teams in the SEC this season. Think on that. Guard play will decide the conference imo.

A Francis or Harper led team would have won this game by 35 max . Maybe 100 points on a good night this is above and beyond after game 1 someone post our Carson newman game results the last decade please lol

Did not get a chance to watch this live and just now finished viewing the replay ......and read a good bit of this thread. Exuberance abounds ....maybe some overexuberance by some . We shall see as the season develops.What was most impressive to me was the knowledge our coach demonstrated in the post game interview....she was able to describe in detail every player ,their strengths and contribution and what needs to worked on was remarkable to me.....obviously her knowledge of the game of basketball is on full display .She is a teacher, motivator and has the players on the team buying in .....this reminds me of Tony Vitello's entrance ( I believe in 2017 ) to Tennessee's baseball team and the knowledge ,vigor and work ethic he displays/displayed almost every day. And ,she does her coaching ,teaching .and evaluations naturally and that is authentic for sure .

I think we all should take her comments of caution in how this team will play against better competition prior to SEC play .But this game certainly has everyone ...including me ....excited about what this season has in store for our Lady Vols

I’d disagree SC has a quartet of bigs that make them dominant as a whole. Kitts, Feagan , Tac & Watkins when she returns are the best there is . LSU with Morrow , Smith , Del Rosario , Wolfenberger have another strong quartet. Not doubting our team just stating we don’t have that post depth to compete unless we run them in the ground! And WE WILL!!!

If we face a team with good guard play (SC) and can control the tempo without turning it over then our backs will be against the wall . For the old heads this is the Nolan Richardson 40 minutes of hell style of play . It CAN work when done right but when momentum is not on your side the game can be over in the first 20 minutes against disciplined teams is what I’m saying .

Watkins not likely to see the court this season. Tac is a freshman, who knows? At LSU, Smith is solid, Del Rosario is no where near dominant, maybe one day, not now. Morrow is actually 6’, listed at 6’1”. Tough player, not a true post. Texas will live or die by the play of Harmon and Booker, their post options are pedestrian.

This is the year in the SEC where guards rule. SC’s strength is in their guards this year, Raven, Tessa, Pao Pao and especially Fulwiley. Those four together are their strength. They are also good upfront without Watkins, and in the absence of a Cardoso, but it’s not the same, the guards have to be the alphas now.

Did y'all notice there wasn't even an extra ounce of weight on anyone? Typically at this time of year there are usually a few players (on every team!) who are still a little "extra" from the off-season, but Kim has them all lithe and moving optimally well. As I mentioned a while back, this is potentially a lifetime gift to these young players. 🏀🧡

Latham needs more minutes than Favor and Jillian. Wells doesn’t look ready for this system yet. Strickland got the minutes that she will get during the season (4-6).

Shot selections and one more needs to improv. SLOB defense has to improve as well.

I would have to disagree. These girls still need to be in the weight room working on maintaining.
