Game Thread Lady Vols at West Virginia

A 5-point lead with 1:13 to play and some of us are writing excuse slips? Sheesh!
This is on CKH. I seen in a post where our best player might pout if the play isn’t drawn up for her. That’s when you leave her a$$ on the bench and tell the other 5 to go win the damn game.

Emily is not good enough to play in games that matter. @creekdipper

I agree that she has limitations, but one token appearance per year in a big game is not too much to ask, IMO. The worst that would have happened is that someone might have blamed the OT loss on her getting in the game for a minute.

If this were any other game on the schedule, I'd be more inclined to agree. But this has to be embarrassing in front of friends and family who might not get this opportunity again.

Yeah but that was a B.S. post. Davis gets sh*t most often bc she does NOT demand the ball aggressively and has a completely laid back demeanor which will forever be interpreted, espec. after bad games, as lack of caring.

I think KK played a good game, but she should still be coming off of the bench. We have to figure out how to get Key and Horston in the starting lineup. The lineup of Horston, Rae, Rennia, Key, and Green actually looked good in the 2nd half. Green does a lot of little things that don’t always show up on the stat sheet.

the biggest mistake happened before tipoff
Jordan and, Key and KK sitting on the bench...coming in to create a spark
If they had started we wouldn't need a spark
Why KK & Key? Neither can shoot, handle the ball, are good passers, or can move defensively outside the paint. I understand one of the two because of their size and rebounding, but just curious to why both at the same time? Not being smart or argumentative at all, just wondering how you were thinking.

I agree with 1 (Horston) and disagree with the other two (KK, and Key) at this moment

Disappointed in so many things that cost us this very winnable game. Still disagree with Kellie's reluctance to use time outs.

All that aside, very disappointed that Kellie chose to leave Em on the bench. Unless she's in the disciplinary doghouse, no excuse for not letting her see the floor in front of her home crowd. And not just saying that in hindsight now that we lost anyway, but any player who works hard in practice deserves that one-timr courtesy, similar to starting seniors on tbeir night.

Some bright spots (FT shooting, Burrell's continued improvement, Horston's defense and offense, Green offense), but many of the familiar but infamous old problems still present. Maybe better we lost if it can be used to correct mistakes from both players and coaches.
Jmo but Harper not playing Emily is like
Pruitt not playing his other 3 QB's

It was when we had that lineup that we made the best strides
Key changes the opponents mind when she is in there with shot-blocking
and Kk was having the best game for all of the posts

This was our first game against a good team, hopefully we learned something from this loss. This was a winnable game. The defense was okay but the offense needs a lot of work. We are passing up too many shots and missing ones under the basket. Davis and Horston try to make easy shots look difficult. Davis needs to show she is the best player and I think Suarez needs to play more. Davis has the ability to take over a game but is not consistent in doing so. We also need a consistent point. I have to say KK played a decent game and Greene did a decent job in the post. Horston was not bad down the stretch, however can be a little lackadaisical, especially dribbling. This team also need a consistent floor leader on the floor. We have been looking for one of those for years. Burrell seems to have leadership potential along with Greene and Suarez. Floor leadership may be difficult to establish when you are changing lineups multiple times during a game.

You know I have a real lineup struggle in my head. I wouldn't mind Horston starting, but not at PG. How about Walker, Horston, Burrell, Davis, and Green or Key? Suraz and Salary first off bench. KK strictly situational, as is Rennie. Is that starting lineup too small? Lacking a power forward?

I like Green alot, she's tough and hard nosed, plays hard. But I think she's just too short. And Key, ah the ever frustrating should be, could be Key. If we had Key and Green's love child, we'd be in great shape.

The psychology of Rennia Davis will always be a mystery. I think the legacy of the awful years she went through have marked her. Anyone remember how defeated and deflated she was a couple of seasons ago? We seriously worried for her well being. She's come a long way since then but some fans are always going to chalk her up as sulky and uncaring. I don't think that's fair and accurate, I just think she's inconsistent, like 95% of the players from the previous coaching years. She'll have great games this year which will happen randomly and not necessarily when we need them most, and she'll have more bad games also.

Fortunately, that inconsistentcy will hurt alot less if Rae Burrell continues to play this well. One of two times she seemed a bit out of control, but overall continues to improve steadily.

There is not one coach that would put a player in that is not capable of helping the team just because the game is in her home state. Come one people...Harper is trying to win a game!

This team is athletic on the perimeter but that does not win in 2020 and hasn’t for some time. You have to shoot the 3 if you aren’t dominant inside.

Athleticism combined with a low basketball IQ equals 20 turnovers and an abysmal 2-19 from 3.
Yes! Finally somebody gets it. Low BBall IQ became a trait of CHW’s teams and it continues under Harpers so what is still missing? And the answer is obvious and it’s a PG. We don’t have one this year and don’t have one coming in next year.

The female game announcer said the same thing with Key on the backline WV was getting nothing in the middle. To add start defending the 3 and stop doubling down. With Key and KK in the post there is no need to.

Don't know that we know we don't have one yet. Walker has looked good at times, just not today. Someday Jordan Horston may become one, of a sorts. Destiny Salary doesn't look bad either, just unpolished. It is badly needed, but I feel like it could still happen.

Also, I don't see how poor 3 pt shooting, which is undeniably an ongoing problem, equals poor Bball I Q, (whatever the eff that means). They're supposed to smart the ball into the basket?

It’s knowing when to shoot the 3. Is it in rhythm? Are you open or is it forced? When a player shoots the 3 ball was there a better option closer to the bucket? Are your teammates in good rebounding position? Did you have a layup or just settle for the long jumper? BBall IQ matters in shooting the 3!

I didn't think most of our 3 were ill-advised today. Just couldn't hit a bull in the butt with a bass fiddle, as is so often the case.
