Tough loss for MSU. They played well enough to win. Silkwood pitched the whole game and struck out 4 and gave up 8 hits. All were singles except the Koenig home run. They hit Gaffin pretty well. They had 12 hits and stranded 14 runners!

Alabama beats Auburn 6-0. Auburn, LSU, and Florida are now tied for the SEC lead with 4 losses apiece. Not good for the LV's. Tennessee stands tied for 5th place with 7 losses in the loss column. Alabama had 5 losses and the LV's really need Alabama, Georgia, Missouri, and TX&M to all lose. 4th place in the SEC is probably not going to happen but I'm still hoping. Georgia is playing Florida in a series and as much as I detest Florida - who is on a 9 game winning streak - Georgia needs to lose. Game 1 of that series was rained out. It would be a bit ironic for Florida to win the SEC after their poor conference start coupled with how hot LSU and Auburn started out. It looks like Arkansas will miss the tournament as they are in last place with a 1-14 conference record. Good grief, Kentucky now has a 4-12 conference record but is still ranked in the top 15 nationally. :rolleyes:

Big that we got this win because who are we pitching today? Looks like Aucoin and Gabriel still injured and Tarango is a train wreck on the mound. Gaffin toughed it out today didn't have her best stuff but she got big outs when she needed to.

LV's up 1-0 bottom of the 1st. 2 walks, a hit batter, and a sac bunt gets a run across the plate. Tarango pitching.

3 up 3 down for MSU in the bottom of the first. The LV's desperately need Tarango to pitch well today. So far so good.

MSU changes pitchers. Geer flies out to left. Overstreet (still no Aldrete) flies out to deep 2nd. Gaffin grounds out to 1st.

Tarango walks the leadoff hitter on 4 straight pitches. Sac bunt attempt, Tarango fields it and tries to get the lead runner at 2nd and throws the ball into centerfield. 2 on no out. Another sac bunt. 1 out, runners on 2nd and 3rd. Triple by Winkfield to left center who went 3 for 3 last night. 2 in and a runner on 3rd, 1 out. Ralph out to the circle. Tarango walks the next batter. Runners at 1st and 3rd, 1 out. Double steal. Overstreet throws to 2nd, Winkfield scores. Runner safe at 2nd. 3-1 MSU. I have no idea why Overstreet threw to 2nd. Glory be, Tarango gets a strikeout. 2 down. Fly out to right for the 3rd out.

Tarango is throwing a lot of off-speed junk but is having trouble finding the plate. MSU scores 3 runs off of 1 hit. An error by Tarango and a bad decision by Overstreet coupled with the walks leads to 3 runs in for MSU.

Top of the 3rd. Lewis grounds out to 2nd. Geathers walks on 5 pitches. Gregg flies out to right. Aucoin lines out to 3rd. Geathers is stranded. Still 3-1 MSU heading to the bottom of the 3rd.

Tarango still in the circle. Pop up to Koenig for out 1. High fly to Gaffin for out number 2. Gregg makes a great play on a grounder deep behind the circle for out number 3. Still 3-1 MSU heading to the top of the 4th.

Aldrete is not playing. Aucoin is batting but has a shoulder injury according to the MSU announcer. Gabriel has a wrist injury I read somewhere.

Top of the 4th. McSwain strikes out swinging after working a 3-2 count. Koenig singles to left on a 3-2 pitch. First hit of the game for the LV's against a Freshman pitcher. Geer pops up to 2nd. Overstreet also works a 3-2 count then homers!! Tie ball game 3-3!!

Action resumes. 2 more balls although the 2nd ball looked good to me. Ball 3. Tarango is all over the place. Finally a strike called. The announcer and crowd boo but it was a strike. Line drive out to Gregg. She almost doubles the runner off 1st but she dives back safely. 1 out.

Winkfield up. The LV's haven't gotten her out yet in the series. Boy that changed! Tarango struck her out on a changeup that made her look silly.

Damn it. Simple grounder to 3rd and the throw pulls Koenig off the bag. Runners at 1st and 2nd. Tarango needs all the help she can get. Get these simple outs when you can.

Ralph back out. Pinch hitter for MSU.

Great play by the LV's! A single up the middle, Lewis throws out the runner at home plate!

The LV's get out of the inning. Still 3-3 through 4 innings.

Aucoin batting with 2 on and no out. The Freshman hits her in the leg! Bases loaded and no outs. A golden opportunity.

McSwain grounds to 3rd and MSU gets the force out at home. 1 out bases loaded.

Koenig pops up to short center. 2 out. Dang it.

Aargh...Geer grounds out to 3rd. The LV's have the bases loaded and no outs and cannot get a run. What a lame three at-bats to end that inning.

Still 3-3 heading to the bottom of the 5th.

Tarango still pitching. 1st batter grounds out to 3rd. Ground out to deep short for the 2nd out. Close, very close, play at 1st, but the LV's get the out. Great throw by Gregg. Another great play by Gregg. She makes a great catch and throw on a grounder deep behind the circle and throws out the runner. 1-2-3 inning for Tarango.

3-3 heading to the top of the 5th.
