Game Thread: Lady Vols Vs Arkansas; Sun Jan 12th ; Away game; 1PM Eastern; SEC Network WIN 93-63

The refs had to feel really stupid on that review. No flagrant is ok, but the purposeful missing of a common foul is nuts after the 15 touch fouls on us.
Maybe not popular.
But Arkansas girl was trying get back defense.
The Tennessee girl was trying to get a defense rebound.
Both players where moving.
No player was set.
But Tennessee got the worst of two running it too each other.
That's best recalling without see a replay.

Coach "Cute Chipmunk's Alter Ego" will just tell them they need to get in better aerobic shape if they don't want to incur breathing fouls.
Yep 27-14 in total fouls you just no they weren't breathing as hard as our Lady VOLS . Just frustrating at what it does to the game.

coaches always teach on how a came will be called. and after the fact - what was learned that can be applied. the freshman learned that she is too fast in speed and her hands on ball for many refs to properly recognize and they call fouls. again to date myself - when Holdsclaw came into the SEC she was called for walking because of her agility, refs weren't prepared. Also if "the freshman" had a rep then she would more likely get some breaks, but not as a "freshman."

A couple of interesting tidbits. Jewel has been doing horribly on the +/- stat while she has been blazing hot in shooting, so she is 1 of 7 tonight but has the best +/- of anyone tonight. Things that make you go Hmmm.
Spencer did a great job keeping focused back at Arkansas against her form team. Despite being rather cold, she had 8 assists to 0 turnovers, had three steals and took a great charge, and had some rebounds. Also glad for Spearman to have such a good game after the LSU game. Boyd gets called for fouls with the slightest of contact every game, though this was the worst. As a team, we need to stop fouling as much. It disrupts our flow and equalizes the game. The MSU game on Thursday should be a good one in TBA on Thursday!

Fingers crossed that putting her at the head of the press is the answer to her liability on the defensive end; when she was the last player back, teams would break the press and then push in against the small Jewel and get a great look. Today, Arkansas had to pull back and slow up on a lot of possessions even where they broke through the halfcourt; didn't get an easy drive.

Even with only one make, 6 assists and 2 offensive rebounds helped. (rebounding was a way that she hadn't really been contributing to our offense at all; I think because the plan was her to drift back on defense, rather than push forward for a rebound)

Plus, teammates were rebounding well tonight, which makes the misses hurt less.

Also she had one 3P miss that was a called foul where she went up and sunk all three free throws! :)

If we can get Jewel to not be quite so net negative on defense, she will be a key player in wins when those shots are falling.

I'm thinking this crew of refs are the ones that need to be adjusting to the game. They been terrible every game I've seen them officiate. We play the same way as many other teams and most of those games don't have near as many touch fouls called.

I love that Kim isn’t happy and said she will treat this as a loss on film. To paraphrase her postgame “we didn’t do anything to impress.” Big game coming up on Thursday.
She wants them to do it the right way every time. Total task master and I love it. Never pleased.

I for sure force the review of this game and the specially for that play late in the game where our lady got bulldozed.,,I just reread the rule in contact review, has NOTHING to do with intentional. If UNNECESSARY it should end up as an F1. Unnecessary and EXCESSIVE, an F2.

It was insulting to call that INCIDENTAL and blow it off. For sure forcing them to compare and contrast that play with 15-20 of our fouls.

Makes no mention to a common foul being assessed first.
