Game Thread: Lady Vols Vs Arkansas; Sun Jan 12th ; Away game; 1PM Eastern; SEC Network WIN 93-63

Or, the worst mismatches just get the poorest officiating crews--who know that and are trying to earn respect within their domain by showing their ability to see and call every touch.

...not realizing yet that a well-officiated game is more of an art than a science.

I wonder if refereeing attracts more people who are heavy on the OCD scale... and if the task of refereeing organizations is to re-channel and inform those instincts? Or else, cull them.
I agree. The incompetence might be less annoying if they didn't also choose to be one sided.

With her forearm extended and shoving defenders out of the way.
That worried me how Higginbottom kept using her forearm to push defenders for space and none of the refs called her for it. However, Caitlin Clark used the same technique and rarely was called for it but our players were called for a lot of touch fouls.

I thought the Lady Vols played a lot better in the paint after a couple of mishaps. I thought they really hustled and played physically. It was a great win not because it was against Arkansas but they did not suffer any hangover after two close losses to two top ten teams they could have come out with Ws. Go Lady Vols!!

This game Puckett did not let the moment define her...Good game young lady.

A ref friend of mine said that may be a point of emphasis for next year...that and carries.

Carrying used to be "a hand shake",,,meaning if your hand got below a hand-shake-pickup it was a carry,,,now hands are completely under the ball,,,that too may be apoint of emphasis

A couple of interesting tidbits. Jewel has been doing horribly on the +/- stat while she has been blazing hot in shooting, so she is 1 of 7 tonight but has the best +/- of anyone tonight. Things that make you go Hmmm.
Spencer did a great job keeping focused back at Arkansas against her form team. Despite being rather cold, she had 8 assists to 0 turnovers, had three steals and took a great charge, and had some rebounds. Also glad for Spearman to have such a good game after the LSU game. Boyd gets called for fouls with the slightest of contact every game, though this was the worst. As a team, we need to stop fouling as much. It disrupts our flow and equalizes the game. The MSU game on Thursday should be a good one in TBA on Thursday!

+/- can be deceptive, especially if looked at for single games. For example, in this game Avery Strickland would seem to be a negative two. However if you look at her time in the game, she entered right as AR took and made 4 free throws coming off the technical. So before her sneakers even squeaked she was sitting at negative 4.

Coach, I have not kept count, but in the last three games we have been foul city. Against Arkansas we had 25 fouls with 12 being called in favor of Higgenbottom. We have to do something about that, although I questioned several of the foul calls. Maybe that is the fan in me speaking, I believe that several of the foul calls in the last three games were ridiculous.

Lots of keep it close fouls, imo. And fouls in the paint boxing out. How does Spear displace Malone?
