Game Thread: Lady Vols Vs LSU; Thurs Jan 9th ; Home game; 6:30 PM Eastern; SEC+ stream

Three fouls to give and they have no timeouts?!!! We gotta recognize stuff like that. Otherwise, very good game by the Lady Vols! Definitely top 10 team! No doubt about it after these last two games.
This is a very fair criticism. You can leave them as the one with .9 seconds to get off a shot.

That being said, I don't think we could play better defense on a possession than we did that one. Not sure I would roll the dice on doing it twice more w/o giving them an open look.

I was curious if today and Oklahoma was just a sample size thing for Jewel Spear, but she has been negativ +/- in every single big game. All 3 SEC games, +FSU, +Iowa.

-6 against FSU
-8 against Iowa (10 point win, so the Vols were +18 while she was off the court)
-8 against Texas A&M (13 point win, so the Vols were +21 while she was off the court)
-10 against Oklahoma
-10 against LSU

At some point you just have to admit that, even with their 3 point shooting potential, if they're consistently net negativ to our scoring, then there are some serious issues in their game that you can't just ignore because they hit a lot of 3s.

You think that makes sense?
I think people are just frustrated and venting. It’s sad that our Lady Vols program has fallen off a cliff and been irrelevant for what, 10 years?

We have the right coach and from wha to read, she has a top recruiting class. Coach is installing her style of play so the Lady Vols will be a final four contender w/in 2-4 yrs.

And this is a GREAT example of why not to trust the +/-

Aye, and that's what I'm saying. I point out that she had a bad night in the +/-, and people go crazy because she scored 25 points: that's just totally ignoring how insane it is to score 25 points, and still be in the negatives in differential. It shouldn't happen, and it can only happen if you being on the court allows the defense to score significantly more easily on your team when you are on the court than when you're replaced.

It makes a big difference in the net rankings etc... that the NCAA uses to seed teams.

It really sucks we couldn't pull off the win, but if we get the normal officiating that any other team in the country would get in its own gym then we win. The officiating wasn't bad overall, but it was the typical BS where LSU got a call that was wrong whenever they needed one to keep the lead.

It doesn't matter how good UT gets, we will never get those calls.

Either way, we will win these games when we start playing four quarters. Recruits can see how they would be the ones to make a difference in getting us over the hump so we have a lot to sell them.

I’m not sure it was intentional but I think the officials got it as close to an evenly called game as I’ve seen give or take a call here and there for both teams.
I believe UT is gaining respect from the officials when they put their head down and drive to the basket.
All the guards tonight were good at least at driving through the lane and making LSU defend.
We just must get better at finishing through contact.
Multiple missed layups around were the difference in the final score.
It’s coming full circle and magnifying the reason that Coach Caldwell is never satisfied.
Those empty possessions are literally the difference between two losses and in a perfect record with a Top 5-10 ranking.

Don’t understand-we had 2 fouls to give and could have caused them to regroup. LSU had no timeouts left.
Good point. As soon as the dribbler starts to approach the foul line area, you foul, then force another inbounds set with less time.
All around awful defense on the last possession. You do not allow the point guard to get all the way to the basket like that. The point defender did a good job, but there should have been some help, quick feet and some alertness should have produced an offensive foul on LSU. Dumb, Dumb, Dumb. Lady Vols can run and they can press, but they have to improve their half-court defensive fundamentals.

All this should tell you is that Kim probably needs to adjust her lineups

Yes, if they can’t beat them 2 at home, what good teams u think they will beat?

Who says we can't beat Oklahoma and LSU? We literally had the shot to win in the air against OU, and we were an impressiv last shot from LSU away from taking them to OT.

Just because we didn't doesn't mean we can't, lol.

I have a winners mentality, because I hate losing. When u lose certain games it shows who u are. This is a middle of the pack Sec team. I’ve waited a while before I gave my assessment and now I have a good feel on who this team is.
We were picked to be a middle of the pack SEC team actually 7th.

So u like losing?
No no—you need to keep up. No deflecting.

I’m saying that you clearly think you have a grasp on things, but you (along with a few other frequent flyers) spew a bunch of knee-jerk keyboard diarrhea in these threads because you can’t handle disappointment with anything approaching maturity. Instead, you make ridiculous wide-sweeping claims because it’s easier to be mad than trying to find optimism inside your disappointment.

It’s exhausting. You need to grow up.

Coaching staff seems to be learning too. Gotta give the fouls there. Also didn't like Cooper coming out at the 2 minute mark in a one possession game with time outs left. What would jumper do?
