Game Thread Lady Vols vs Texas

Diamond is perhaps our best player. This team is unorganized and with no leaders on the floor. Right now we have a hot mess. Russell is not being coached very well. The announcers talked several times about her constantly being in the wrong position and her lack of aggression. McCarty out rebounded her several times at 5'6".

Texas uses its speed to perfection and we do not. Texas also exposed our defense several times. You know who the three shooters are but leave them unguarded.

During the last few minutes of the game, what were we playing, street ball? The team has talent but it is not being used in the right way. Holly might be an excellent assistant coach, but she does not have the attitude and demeanor to be a head coach at this level. It is not just this game but the last few years. Yes she has an outstanding winning record and she will have a winning record again this year, but how has she faired against teams in the top five? If fans are happy with only wining and reaching the elite 8, just getting by the Zags last year, then so be it. This is a storied program that deserves better than it is currently receiving. Mark this down, zero recruiting, and failure to recruit your needs, will affect this program in a negative way.

The program can be saved but I doubt that will happen at the hands of Holly.

We need a coach that has proven they can win as a HC. There are many schools that would hire an assistant coach as their next HC and Tennessee isn't one of them. Holly was a 'special' situation.

It's all a moot point. I don't think Holly will be gone from UT until the program is completely run into the ground or until she somehow decides to leave on her own terms. And given how stubborn she is I don't see that happening.

When and if it does happen, Tennessee needs to look outside of the Pat coaching tree. There are zero coaches (assistants or otherwise) that are part of Pat's coaching tree that I would hire as the LV's HC right now.

except for DeMoss, who would have been a better choice than Warlick. Hart needs to find a coach who is smart, somewhat young and dynamic and has had experience and success in a head coaching position--possibly someone now excelling at a mid-major. We can get a great coach if we do a good search. Warlick has to go. Nice woman but doesn't have it: Has never had it. Only got the job because she was a very good FOP--friend of Pat. We need someone who knows the game far better than she does and who will DEMAND more and better from the players.

Throw in IQ (both basketball and otherwise) and I think you've covered it.

I'm talking about former players who are coaching. I.E. Caldwell, Butts (Niya and Tasha), Adams, McCray, Edwards.

I just don't see Hart doing anything. His attitude toward the women's programs is they are a necessary evil. Women's programs are a cost center and not a profit center. Why would he go out and get a better coach? The program would still lose money. He and Jimmy aren't going to do anything. Twenty wins and Holly is OK.

You aren't discussing the game. You are whining.

That we played another crap game? That we couldn't shoot the ball again--30 percent (to 40 percent for texas); that we played stupid defense--leaving 3-point shooters unguarded again, who burned us; that we had a high number of turnovers AGAIN. We consistently underachieve, and you pretend that we don't. Consistent underachievement merits complaint. Someone who tells us that Warlick is a "top 10" coach telling us not to whine--that's rich.

Not only that but the kids deserve better. They deserve the best coach that Tennessee can get. The Albany coach would be a step up.

Hart is very happy if we win 25 games a year and make the sweet sixteen. He can keep the pay to women's basketball coaches low and spend more money on football.

Holly = Dooley with a bunch of All-Americans. Worst basketball coach in UT history, either gender. Makes Wade Houston look like Bob Knight.

Agree with most of this. But, we may not win a lot of games. We could easily be 1-5 right now instead of 5-1.

It is not always about the wins but how you win. In several of the loses Holly was out coached. We still having issues and part of that is depending upon the inside offensive game. Watch the top ten teams and we have more shooting ills than anyone else. To stop us all you need to do is play a zone.

Look at Russell she is playing the same way she played in high school, she needs a coach that can take her to the next level. I am not a big Genno fan but under him Russell would be a different person. She has potential and skills that Dolson would have killed for. That for the most parts was Genno's coaching. This team has offensive talent but it is not being in the right way.

My biggest problem with Pat Summit. Of course she was in a weakened mental state toward the end but her loyalty to Holly over the best interest of the program was disappointing.

We've never had teams that couldn't shoot at least in the 40's no matter who we played. If we lost it was always because the other team had a marvelous shooting game. We never lost when we held teams to 40 percent shooting. Now we lose to teams shooting 35 percent.

Holly had been with Pat for thirty years and had been very loyal to the program. She was going to help her get the job regardless of whether it was best for the program on not. I've been on her side these first three seasons never thought she had quite enough talent to make it to the final four. Now this team seemed to have that talent but it may be worse than last year's team when all is said and done. Were certainly missing the points that Burdick and Massengale put up last season.

Well her team did score as much as Butch's football Vols did yesterday, so give her that....
