It's all a moot point. I don't think Holly will be gone from UT until the program is completely run into the ground or until she somehow decides to leave on her own terms. And given how stubborn she is I don't see that happening.

When and if it does happen, Tennessee needs to look outside of the Pat coaching tree. There are zero coaches (assistants or otherwise) that are part of Pat's coaching tree that I would hire as the LV's HC right now.

The reason we shouldn't hire from the Summitt tree is because she was average, at best, tactically and won due to her recruiting, force of will and superior ability to manage and motivate players. So, unless you can get someone to replicate her strengths (You can't), then you get someone who is solid at the X's and O's and forget trying to recreate the Pat Summitt tenure.

The last year it was reported and that was when Summitt was in her last season they made a little over 5000 dollars total in the clear after all expenses. I think they were one of only two or three teams at that time that made any profit and were not in the red.

I expect we should be making more now they are paying Holly like 650000 and paid Summitt well over a million.

And all of those players are juniors or would be seniors, which makes it ugh... We have time tho.

We are not playing like a final four team right now, but besides Uconn no one is.

The reason we are in such close games and lost today. You need people to make a decent percentage of shots or stop them from shooting. I think we'd been better off today if Diamond, and Graves had taken more shots than they did. Coaches must knows players strengths and weaknesses and they should only take shots they are able to make. I think Reynolds missed at least six she should have made she kept short arming it short right close to the basket.

Texas made life difficult for Russell and Graves--they together had 10 points--and that is always trouble for us given our guard play. Graves doesn't have enough game to excel against a tough defense. She does occasionally through hard work, but that wasn't enough today. DeShields enabled us to keep it close. I thought Texas was doing us a favor by playing man defense, but they gave us the same problems that other teams did with their zones, but of course the way we play offense is also a problem. Russell played a center as big as her today, and could do nothing. Other teams get easy baskets against our defense but we do not get easy baskets ourselves. Not quite sure what we are supposed to accomplish with having three or four players outside on the perimeter--I guess it is to get Russell or Graves isolated inside, so they can score, but it didn't really work. We don't seem to be very effective setting picks/screens. Three or four times in the third quarter one of our guards or wings (DeShields, Cooper or Reynolds) left their man to help on another texas player--why, I don't know--and each time the ball was passed out the open texas player who hit a three. We never really recovered.

Here is the stat of the game: Cooper and Reynolds were a combined 4-22 from the floor. One of them was 2-12 and the other 2-10. That's beyond bad. You shouldn't play if you can't shoot better than that.

For many years UT was one of only 2 or 3 women's basketball programs that made money. Not sure what the status of that is now.

How long will take for us to become a confident, roles identified, play hard every play, value the basketball, make teams pay for their mistakes basketball team?

I agree about some of our women's coaches. Our volleyball team has been below average for years. Patrick had some success early on but the program has not been good for several years. He needs to make it better or be replaced. Pensky hasn't shown much either with the soccer, either. He got a good reputation and inherited no talent and, unlike Patrick, has been recruiting well lately, but it's go time for him too, I think. I am rather tired of all our teams being blah. The university puts too much into its athletics department to be blah--or meh, or average, or bad.

They shouldn't even touch the floor, I would let both freshmen play during this stretch as much as they can. I would play Middleton before them, I feel she wont do no worse.

They haven't shown they can take us past the Elite 8, we have seen this for the past two years, longer for some.

I still think our ladies will win SEC, one of the titles.

Russell has to get tougher if she wants to battle Coates.

Can't do that. Geno was Foster's assistant at St. Joes and that would give TENN a chance to play UCONN and that can't happen.... unless in the Tourney.

See, I still think we'll be alright cos South Carolina guards are not that much better than ours, now Mississippi State and Texas A&M do, but young post.


Our guards have to get better quick, cos Oregon State game will tell us if we have improved.

I saw Holly's after game interview. She was doing a great job of imitating Ray Charles with her head going side to side. These are the jewels she left us in the aftermath of a butt kicking:
1. You have to block out
2. We did not get it done
3. We have got to do it better
4. When you get it inside you have to shoot
5. The players were not on the same page
6. The players took some poor shots
7. They had some good looks but could not make their shots
8. We have got to make our outside shots to open it up for Russell and Graves
9. We got the talent

Not much that we did not know because it is a continue saga. We know the problems and the McDonald All Americans on our team, the question is how do we get issues fixed? Plain and simple most of the issues are coaching issues.

I just watched the replay and I can't believe they lost this game,they have to make some shots,there isn't any reason why they should be missing on all the easy shots they had in this game

other than having Russell out of the paint,I thought it was a well coached game,there is no reason for Russell to be at the 3 point line passing the ball and why was she away from the arc when she was on defense ? all that means,is that she will be out of position to rebound and maybe block a shot

again there was a lot of piss poor passing,not as bad as it has been,but it is still there and more poor ball control resulting in turn overs, mix that in with a lot of poor shooting and that is the reason they lost and for heavens sake make some shots,I'm still ticked off at the poor shooting :)

I would like to see the Lady Vols work more on the mid range shots,their there to be made,there having problems shooting the 3s,so get a little closer and go for a 2

DeSheilds showed us how good she can be,she had a very good game,I thought they should have went to her a lot more in the 4th Quarter and again Cooper showed us she is a freshmen,poor passing,poor defense and poor offense,while making a lot of fouls,she will get better,but as of right now,I don't think she has earned as much playing time as she is getting or being a starter

and as usual the Refs are making a bigger impact on the games rather than the players,I thought there were way to many ticky tack fouls called,but I guess that is the way the NCAA wan'ts the game to be played,it may stop a team from scoring a ton of points,heaven forbid some defense being played,with out a foul

I'm still steamed that the Lady Vols lost this one lol maybe it will wake the players up and get them to executing better Basketball

I love these girls but don't know how much more I can take watching them. It is too depressing watching them being so poorly coached. I really do feel for them. Better to not be emotionally invested right now.

Holly is trying to copy her former boss and stick players into a role rather than build a role for those players based on talents. Pat was able to do this very successfully and coaches who can usually are the most successful, but very few can do it. Holly is not one who can.

Check the recruiting news today.

Jury is still out on Butch, but at least he is showing some level of improvement. Like Holly, he still needs to win a big game one of these days...
