Yes Rickea was number 3, Powell was like 75, Puckett 43, Striplin 45, Spear 82, Darby no rating, Strickland no rating, Key 45, Wynn 62, Hollingshead 25, Boyd 34, Cooper 16 so no we were not even in the top 100 in high school rankings in 2023 or 2024 only got one player both years and one has transferred. Two players Boyd and Cooper are not playing this year one is a early enrollee and the other got in the transfer portal to late. Our portal ranking when Rickea transferred here was high along with Hollingshead. The last portal we were again top ten however some of the players were not highly rated coming out of high school. They played their way into a higher evaluation.I don't follow the recruiting stars in the Ladies game but from reading these post/threads I am under the impression that our recruits are = or close to equal with the top teams. I know in Football we are middle of pack in SEC and have been middle to near the bottom of standings for much of a decade before Hueple.
Are the girls overall rating in recruiting say for last 5 years top 2 in SEC, this is where I considered they were without researching recruiting.
RJ staying just prolonged the issues.Yes Rickea was number 3, Powell was like 75, Puckett 43, Striplin 45, Spear 82, Darby no rating, Strickland no rating, Key 45, Wynn 62, Hollingshead 25, Boyd 34, Cooper 16 so no we were not even in the top 100 in high school rankings in 2023 or 2024 only got one player both years and one has transferred. We have not had a top ten high school recruiting class any of the five seasons Coach Kellie has been here although 2025 looks promising, but yet to develop. Portal has kept us afloat, but were always in a battle for top four in the conference with several other SEC teams.
10? Try more than 15....
We have talent: It's a good starting 5 that we put on the floor---not as good as SC, but a solid groups. The big difference is that Key
doesn't have the agility, offensive skills or stamina to be a real force on the court.
Cardosa =18 points, 10 rebounds, played 29 minutes.
Key = 2 point, 5 rounds, 19 minutes.
Key has worked hard to come back, played hard last night, but just doesn't give us enough to win a game like this.
Puckett is a good player, had a strong game last night, lacks a bit of the athleticism you'd like at that position.
Our guards have talent but are far too inconsistent with their play and their decision-making. Huge game last night and, while they played hard,
they did not play well offensively at all.
Otherwise, we certainly lack quality depth, especially at forward but at all positions.
I'll say this as nicely as I can. We are not back we are struggling to make the NCAA tournament. We are not ranked in the top 25 teams in the country and that might also be the top fifty, but since our Net is 43 we probably make that group. I really wish we were where you say we are. There was a time a little over a decade ago when we were. I know you will continue to be you. but patience is thin when it comes to recruiting and getting the right amount of talent on the team. We have to do better or give another coach the job. Finally we can play with anyone, but we seldom win which is the important part of playing with anyone.Tennessee is back. There will be changes. I don’t know if they will go another direction with coaching or not. The program will take care of itself from this point forward.
Because either starting today in practice they will prepare to win some games or there will be accountability.
Either way, it’s a win win for Tennessee.
One of the biggest flaws of NVs and people in general is they lack patience.
It hasn’t been easy but last night proved every single POINT I have made all season.
Tennessee can play with anyone. Tennessee is talented. Powell embarrassed the so called generational talent on the national stage with a play that I said if it was the other way around would be played 100 times on sports channels.
i stamp that. I’m locked in.
Remind me, who was 1 and 2 in the class of 2019. Was it Boston and Jordy?
My opinion is Rickea is at least number three in that class and a strong argument for number 2. I will give Boston the one spot. Jordy has her in some parts of the game and not others. Cooke was a volume shooter for the most part. Jones was good except her senior year when for some reason she regressed.Interesting. IMO 2-5 are or will be much better pros than Haley Jones.
I agree I think RJ is and will be better than Cooke and Jones. Kinda hope RJ and Zia are teammates bc they are good friends and so are their Moms. LOL Cameron Brink and that Mom, not so much. Some team bonding would be necessary. My opinion is Rickea is at least number three in that class and a strong argument for number 2. I will give Boston the one spot. Jordy has her in some parts of the game and not others. Cooke was a volume shooter for the most part. Jones was good except her senior year when for some reason she regressed.
Senior night too I think? Cardoso will want to go out with a bang
I think Rickea is the best, but Haley Jones is a champion, and I always hold high regard for players that get it done on the biggest stage. My opinion is Rickea is at least number three in that class and a strong argument for number 2. I will give Boston the one spot. Jordy has her in some parts of the game and not others. Cooke was a volume shooter for the most part. Jones was good except her senior year when for some reason she regressed.
Oh, clutch the pearls that language wouldn’t be tolerated here. You didn’t need to hear to lip read, she didn’t need to be unapologetic.Dawn was ask about how she ripped her the starters in that time with some colorful language. She was pretty much unapologetic and said she loves all her players and they are family for life. In her defense they did come out looking like a hot mess.
LOL speaking of pearl clutching, remember Kevin O'Neil who coached the Vol men for a minute? Turned the air blue loudly and constantly. The donors in the courtside seats were shocked, shocked I tell you!Oh, clutch the pearls that language wouldn’t be tolerated here. You didn’t need to hear to lip read, she didn’t need to be unapologetic.
At one point Fox pointed out that SC played 9 and 9 scored. The team has depth it just is not available due to injury in Destinee Wells or redshirted in Talaysia Cooper.
I know Wells is an undersized guard but her decision making is missed badly. Coop can play multiple positions which would’ve helped Jackson and Spear in the G/F positions.
SC has every player on their roster available and has played basically all season together.
Tennessee didn’t lose the game because of depth, some people been spinning it all night but if you watched that game the officiating was favorable to SC.
And it was certainly favorable based on the calls made by one official.
Kaiya Wynn not playing much was highly questionable. The forwards for Tennessee were in position a night just couldn’t get a call. Also, Jillian has to be aggressive and play at a steady pace. Too up and down.
Probably both. I'm sure SC fans are saying the exact same thing about the other end of the court. Like @knoxvol52 said, the refs aren't going to get every call right. I saw a lot of flopping on both sides (mainly Watkins from SC), and the refs weren't biting. I'm sure SC fans are convinced that she was displaced. It seemed that when things got too physical inside (particularly on offense with either Key or Striplin vs. Watkins/Feagin), then Tennessee was rightfully getting the call. Overall, I thought the refs let a lot of things go, but called it fairly evenly and consistently on both sides.
She's only not a starter in name. She usually plays more minutes than Chloe. I think Chloe has better chemistry to start games and is a better passer than Ashlyn, and she executes the high-low game with Kamila better. Also, Ashlyn is the primary backup for Kamila at the 5, and Dawn probably doesn't want to risk early foul trouble for both.6-3 Watkins is only a sophomore and her game around the basket on both ends of the floor is just crazy. How is she not the starter at the 4 ?.
