*Game Thread* Week 1: Titans at Steelers

Plenty of places to pass around blame for this one. Pathetic kicking, bad defense at the end...

Titans defensive coordinator just being outcoached right now.

well i'm also starting to think that the schwartz/cecil coaching philosophy relies heavily on your defensive linemen being able to cause enough pressure so that your LBs and DBs dont have to blitz and can all be used for coverage

I still think the Titans can win 12. Giving up 13 points to the defending Champions isn't that bad.

Fun game to watch. Would've preferred a different winner, but that'll happen when you can't kick a field goal or defend a pass when you know a pass is coming every play on the last two drives.

again apparently cecil/schwartz defense is based your d-line getting to the qb most times and not having to worry about the rush

they're now saying pitt was running no huddle so Tenn wasnt able to switch it's dline at all....well, now everyone knows what to do

When you've got Haynesworth roaming the middle, the d-line can rush the passer rather easy. He's not here anymore and it's time to re-think that philosophy.

...which seems to work fine until the end of the game when the defensive linemen are gassed and do good just to come out of their stance.

I was not happy with the Titans D late in the game. No pressure what so ever in the 4th and OT. It seemed like the moment Pitt went into all pass mode we decided to effectively stop blitzing all together. Made Big Ben look like a sure fire hall of famer at the end there.

Titans still showed poise and I was impressed that Collins and the O looked good against such a stellar Defense. I can still see us being a playoff team, and its still early, hopefully we can right any of these mistakes.

well congrats titans, you're back under the radar. everyone media thinks you can't stand with the big boys for a few weeks

How can you have Michael Griffin, Chris Hope, Nick Harper, and Cortland Finnegan in the secondary.....be so damn good against the run, and just suck so bad against the pass? Those guys were tired and had no pass rush, but come on, they knew Ben was going to throw it on both of those last drives.

Also have a bone to pick with the run game, the Titans have looked VERY sluggish running the ball in preseason and it continued here.

Not true. Not everyone has the Steelers defense. I agree with everyone who wasn't happy with the defense at the end of the game but it was game to maybe the best team in the NFL. The Titans will make the playoffs. All they need is a shot.

Our defense was EXPOSED in the 2cd half tonight, hopefully we work on the NUMEROUS amounts of open field in the middle.

that brings up another thing. Polamalu was the only one catching up to johnson, he leaves, johnson has a huge run, and then he's just gone the rest of the game?

what happened there?

The run defense for the Oilers was very good tonight, so it's not all bad.
...and I'm not sure how much of that can be credited to the Titans rather than the Steelers just being awful at running the ball. Didn't they struggle running the ball all of last year as well?

They aren't that great at defending the pass. Excellent at defending the run. If anyone is to blame in the secondary it's probably them. It was also the play calling. They need to learn to adjust. When 3 and 4 guys aren't putting pressure on the quarterback and he can stand around until someone gets open.... blitz. I think they will be fine though. Fisher has been in this league a long time. He'll get this team to the playoffs.

Can't freaking wait. So excited that I started this thread a night in advance. I hate the Steelers so very much. I hope Jason Jones eats Roethlistberger for 3 more sacks and forces 3 more fumbles. He had a monster game last year. Also.... if Steelers fans are going to throw towels at the Titans players again, I expect them to be stomped on again. :)

Maybe the Steeler fans will lend them some towels to wipe their tears away. Go Steelers! 13-10.

maybe, but the strength in our d-line is in its rotation and depth this year. but if they can just keep the same guys out there and gas them...well then you get this result and they dont touch you
