*Game Thread* Week 1: Titans at Steelers

Not at all. Like i said, it's all in good fun. I always cheer for the Titans unless they're playing Pittsburgh. I've always been a Steeler fan. There was no NFL team in TN when i was growing up. Should be a good season. I see three or four teams in the mix for the AFC this season.
Who ya got?

I kind of have the Chargers, Patriots, and Steelers in the top tier of the AFC coming into the season, and Pittsburgh didn't do anything to change that tonight.

No Titans though? I still believe the Titans are. I trust Collins at quarterback and think he can win any game for the Titans. I also think the Steelers line just put it together towards the end. The TItans were eating Ben up earlier. Ben has won two Super Bowls. I think he is overrated but he has won against the best. I think the Titans are right on par with the Steelers. Maybe that's just me.

My basketball team, baseball team and football team(titans) have never won a championship since they've been in existence. Neither have has my college basketball team... the Vols obviously. My team in the NBA might have won a championship but I think it was in ABA.

Need to have some faith in the Titans. Still an awesome team.

I've been lucky. I like the Spurs, Red Sox, and Steelers. Before you say bandwagoner, I've like all three since the late 70's. However, i've been through tough times with all three.

honestly, my feelings are and have been they missed their best chance last year, and now not only do they need to reload/fix some things but they need to wait for a more highly talented team like the pats to get worse or injured again....

I would think the last few Superbowls should prove that the most "talented" team doesn't always win it all. The Cardinals run to the SB was something that no one saw coming, especially since they played and beat teams like Carolina and Philly, both teams supposedly more talented then Arizona. Granted their run ended in failure, but they still proved something. And the fact that the Giants stunned the world by beating the "unbeatable" Patriots the year before...

This loss sucks, but its just the beginning of the season and no one knows how it'll turn out. From a certain perspective maybe last year was our best chance, doesn't mean it'll be our only one.

And I think I would say the top tier teams in AFC are the Steelers, Patriots, and Titans. I think Chargers, Ravens and Colts are a bit lower. I could see that being the playoffs.

Those three with the Ravens as my sleeper. Titans could slip in.

chargers, really?

so you believe in last season being more LT and merriman's injuries as opposed to norv turner gradually wearing down a team as he has in the past?

Well, look at Bruschi just easing my fears and saying "don't worry Titans fans, you're not going to miss Albert Haynesworth." Put the ixnay down on that pretty quick.

I thought his field vision sucked. It's like he tried dancing around out side when there was a hole between the tackles and when he had chances to cut outside for 20 yard runs, he just ran forward into defenders. There were a few times he could have made a cut to the outside for big gains but he was content with 3 or 5.

Eh, I'm a Titans fan, and they appear to be solid again this year, but I'm not ready to put them in the same category as the Tom Brady Patriots and these Steelers. Those teams have proven they can go all the way and get it done.

With that said, I now question why I included the Chargers in that 'elite' category given my criteria. I think they'll have a better season than the Titans though.

Don't think anyone has mentioned the Colts, but I don't see why they won't be right there either unless Caldwell turns out to be just an awful coach.

The Chargers aren't the team they used to be. The barely made the playoffs in one of if not the worst division in the NFL.

I guess we just disagree on this. I think talent wise the Titans are right there with em. They just don't finish off like those teams. I think Colts are still great but not as dominant as when Harrison was not only with them but healthy/not over the hill. I guess I'm just sold on the Titans talent. Colts also have a new coaching staff. Overtime and a 3 point less pretty much says they are on the level of the Steelers in my opinion. When they play it could go either way.

actually i realize my complaint was really that, when they saw polamalu was out, they started relying too heavily on the run and then got stuck just passing too...i felt a bit it was their fault that they to become one-dimensional

yeah, norv turner has a history of wearing away a good team. I think we're seeing that process now

oh. also i forgot to note that - to me - it looked like that first fg miss had a bad snap. the ball went to the holder's right and he had to reach out to grasp it and then try to pull it in to make up for lost time

....least that's what it looked like to me

now bironas cost me 6 points tonite, and johnson only got me 6 points....so now it's more important that i pick right out of cutler/romo/schaub

Looking at their opponents... I think I'd go with Schuab. That's just me though.

colts have a "new" coaching staff yeah....but they found away around by having moore and whoever else just take different titled, not on the field job but they're still pretty much going to have him calling the plays...IIRC

so pretty much the new guy is the head coach, but all the other old coaches are still there to run things the same way

i'm curious about that. My only worry though is that the ravens D coordinator is now the head coach...and I kinda feel that schaub's still the kinda guy to have a bad game b/c of the coverage/play-calling but not necessarily the talent....but i could be wrong.

I figure either him or Romo b/c tampa is new coach who has said they were rebuilding.

...oh and i also have slaton and andre johnson and feel kinda uncomfortable starting 3 guys from the same team

Yeah. That wouldn't be a bad choice either. Even Cutler could rack up the yards but the Packers forced a good amount of turnovers last year. You could argue for any of them really. All are capable of big games.

yeah my dilemma. Heck, if mcdaniels hadnt come to denver, I'd pretty much have cutler as my guy most of the season, but i really feel i need to see how he actually plays first
