Gary Danielson on 104.5

Don't see a problem with a spread offense. Florida did it and won back to back NC, and Auburn did it and won a NC. Its the defense we need to worry about!!!

1) did u listen 2 the press confere nce
2) uptempo...not spread
3) CBJ knows game is won at line of scrimmage in this league
4) i bet people would have loved a pass happy Gruden game plan....not exactly smash mouth

Danielson has veered to bammer felation ever since Finebaum, the chief media felator of saban and bammer, has been paying him to come on his show once a week.

Not surprised he would trash Tennessee. He is paid well to do so.

Urban Meyer runs a similar offense, and I think he has done pretty well with it.

Finesse was his main talking point.. That's what the spread, read option is.. You need a Cam Newton to make that work.. You have to run the ball in this conference.. I don't care for that offensive philosophy..

It's not a finesse run option spread, just spread. Remember Peade?

Just spoke truthfully about the butch jones hire and I think it speaks a lot to what some of us are worried about. I'll try to find a transcript.
Quotes I remember
"I don't know"
"Can Butch Jones build a program on his system? He hasn't done it before, he's won in programs others have built"
"Tennessee has made a decision to move towards a finesse style of play"

Worked for Oregon.

i hate to point out the obvious, you usually need a once in a generation type qb to make the spread really work.

so, tennessee needs to find vince young, tebow, cam, or johnny football out there somewhere.

Hey doofus, you do realize that most of those QB's came from the same generation right?

Sounds like Danielson is talking out of his a$$ as usual. A little research by him would have helped.

Can't stand the guy.

did they play at the same school? oh, that's right, they didn't.

at most places, you can not continue to crank out one elite qb after another regardless of the offense. but, the spread is more dependent on the qb than any other system.

whereas, with what alabama is doing, you can have aj mccarron, greg mcelroy, and john parker wilson and it doesn't matter.

so, do me a favor doofus. sit back and count the years before florida sees another tebow, texas sees another vince young, and auburn sees another cam newton

240lb beasts who can carry a team on their back don't end up on campus like clockwork

He did not bash Tennessee at all, thought that we could have done better like most of the people here do/did.

UT isn't beating out the GA's, Bama's, LSU's for the big mean o linemen to run the ball down their opponents throats. There are a lot more 5'9-6'1 speed demons then there are 6'3-6'6 300+pounders out there. Recruit leaner more athletic linemen and teach them the appropriate technique. Vols havent had a significant running game in 5 years. Theres a reason. Time to change up the offense and recruiting strategy. #BJ2013

You said once in a generation, but mentioned 4 QB's within the past 8 years.

Not much college football talk up here. Gary is a guest on Mad dog and the on New York's 660 wfan every week. I look forwrd to hearing him. He usually gives the Vols respect. I don't think he heard the presser before commenting. CBJ did say the right things like you all have mentioned about the offense. Sounded alot like the one we ran this year. Which was real close to being very good. Even the run game was improved. It's the defense that needs to get back to dominance.

Gary just said that he has no clue how Jones will do. He goes on to say that it's very interesting that Tennessee has decided to play "finesse" football, while LSU, Bama, Florida, and Georgia are all grinding out a line of scrimmage brand of football.

I am supportive of the Jones hire, but as a fan, and not a student of the game, these comments give me pause.

Thoughts?

Well, he hasn't coached a single down at UT as of yet, so who knows what style of game we will have.

I don't care what we run. Maybe a change of pace will be good vs the brusing defenses of LSU and Bama. Don't care. Points are points and we need to get some on the board. HOWEVER...We also need to stop the other team. If we don't do that, we are West Virginia. Wait..we already were this year.

When Cincy came here they had a stud named Isaiah Pead who ran like a wild bull. He's now in the NFL. 'Nuff power for my liking. GBO

Gary has hung out with Verne too long, who cares what he thinks. CBS is crazy to let those two broadcast football. Listening to them do a game is like listening to someone scratch a chalkboard. CBS had Gus Johnson, but used Gary and Verne for football. Now Gus has left for greener pastures. At least CBS still has Brando lol, wonder if he approves of this hire.
