Georgia Tech interested in Bruce Pearl???

Pearl's got a good situation at UT, partly if not mainly because the SEC is bad in basketball and so we've got a good shot of making the big tourney every year. Going to ga. tech, in the acc, would be very unwise--and I'm sure Bruce is smart enuf to realize that!

It would depend on when he leaves. It's hard to list candidates if you don't know when you're filling a vacancy. If he left tomorrow, Gregg Marshall and Mike Anderson would be the first names that would come to mind. Brian Gregory would also be on the list.
John Calipari.Cousins may come along.

There was no way that he was leaving UT. Im sure that his agent had no connection to that NFL team.

well after it became established that he wasn't going to leave at UT at all, he stopped getting offers

but I really am pretty certain i recalled reading back on something in his early years (like 3-4 years in the 90s) of being offered an NFL job...maybe a Cleveland?

Also of note on the earlier comment, the raises weren't a "stay here;" we're part of a league where almost all of them keep getting raises each season. they were all about relative positioning, he had either ended up as like 8th 9th in the conference salary wise or, well the last time he got that one he was making less than the UK coach

actually he did get an NFL offer in the 90s IIRC

I remember all the rumors about that back then, but I find that hard to believe. I think he would have taken an NFL HC job in 5 seconds had he ever really been offered.

I don't recall saying that he turned down an offer, or did I say that he was offered... But he made it clear that he wanted to be at Tennessee and no where else. He has said that publicly several times. I'm sure you'll find someway to argue with this too.
It's really easy to claim great loyalty to your employer when you have no other options.

The last thing I need is a "history lesson" from some fairweathered slackjaw who thinks UT just started playing basketball five years ago.

No obviously its not history you struggle with.........its math because you cant tell the increase in wins since he has been here. The fan you call "fairweathered slackjaw (sic)" is just pointing out the obvious: Pearl is a winner. Also when you talk about the rich basketball history of UT's past you only have one real coach to compare Pearl to and Pearl is much farther ahead than Ray Mears was at this point in his career. To have 30k posts you sure dont make a lot of sense.

The question is, IF he leaves, has he elevated the program to the point to where a solid coach would want to come here? Calimari actually complemented him on coming to a 'football' school and the Lady Vols and bringing this program up to another level. He was impressed by the job he has done. Pearl has embraced this challenge. Will someone else?

I think he claims he was offered an Asst position with the NFL. Not a HC position.
That was part of his threat to Dickey in '92. He was going to coach Arkansas or O line in the NFL if he didn't get the job.

So what is your prediction for the tourney?

He's too busy ignoring the fact Pearl's actual accomplishements at UT aren't significantly better than Jerry Green's to be bothered with your question.

i dunno; he never really struck me as that type imo though

(i'm not sure though really either that it was a HC job, but i think it was something on an NFL coaching staff. maybe an OC or o-line? i'm not sure)

So what is your prediction for the tourney?

Out in first or second round. However, bad you might say that is realize what kind of job Pearl has done with the off the court issues (losing Eman, Tyler - Permanently, Tatum to injury, Williams (temporarily), and Goins (temporarily). The future is still bright with Pearl as HC. He isnt going to Tech. Regardless of what Hatvol says the memphis job was his if he wanted it.

CBP is one of the top five highest paid coaches in the country and he's never made it past the sweet 16! He's not going anywhere! Count it!!

No he isnt. This graphic, which isnt perfect, lists him 13th. My guess is if incentives and endorsements were included and the rating were run today, he would be slightly lower:

The Wall Street Journal Online - Interactive Graphics

What does that change and WTF is a poopsock? DIII educations must be getting stronger.

Anyone with an infant should know the answer to this. It is most often the result of a miscalculation during changing.

He's making more than Boeheim. That makes perfect sense.

So you are saying that there are at least 32+ other coaches who are bigger winners than Pearl; for yet another year.
