Georgia vs Oregon

Admittedly, my expectations are low and my hopes are high. New coach, first game for a new head coach, new staff, new philosophy, defending national champion for an opponent, home field game for the opponent. Ducks with a new starter at QB and its still undecided who will start.

The Ducks certainly are very talented, excellent o line, very good talent on the defensive side of the field. Linebackers anyone in the country would love to have. Lots of people playing multiple positions or new positions. Sounds like a couple true freshmen just might make the two deep.

As for Duck TE's we've got a couple decent TEs that have in the past been injured a lot, but it looks like they are finally healthy. New depth at the RB position, one RB moved to receiver, which in my mind is probably a smart thing for his talents.

Lanning is going to do good things at Oregon. You got a good one. He's "defensive-minded", so that will be his focus. He needs to hire a solid OC, and let them do what they do best. Coming from the SEC, Lanning will have to learn to do things the West Coast Way. He will. Oregon is going to be a tough out moving forward...

...out west. As the history of the CFP has shown, anything west of the Mississippi that makes the CFP is toast once they run into the defenses that we have over here on the right side. Lanning will do his best to address that, but all things take time, and tough things take longer. There's a significant difference between a "nasty" west coast DL/LB/CB, and one who cut his teeth in Georgia, or Florida, or Alabama. It is what it is. West coast has double-wide Samoans on the OL, and they are top-shelf. Down this way, speed and instincts rule the day on defense. And speed kills.

I think UGA wins this one, but I don't expect a blowout. I like 10-17, but a 3-7 edge wouldn't surprise me. I do know this: If Oregon is expecting UGA to show up thinking they already have this one in the bag, that's a mistake. UGA is going to charge into MBS looking to make a statement entering the '22 season. Kirby will have them ready to play hard. Oregon needs to show up ready for a dogfight, because they are going to get one.

Go Vols. I like UGA in this one.

The good news for Oregon is that the game is early in the season and Georgia lost 15 players from last years team in the NFL draft. Additionally, no other opposing coach knows the Georgia players (and Kirby) as well as Lanning does - their strengths, weaknesses and tendencies. And Oregon will be running different schemes on both sides of the ball so Georgia won’t really know what this Oregon team wants to do.
The bad news for Oregon is that Georgia has recruited top 5 classes for the last 5 years so there is no real drop off in talent - only in experience. And while the Oregon schemes might surprise Georgia they are also new to the Oregon players so mistakes are gonna happen.

Georgia will want to run the ball often and throw possession passes to their tight ends to keep the chains moving - they have 3 outstanding TEs. They have a big, strong offensive line blocking for a typical group of Georgia’s RBs so Oregon must prove that they can stop the run and get Georgia to pass downfield. Georgia will be very happy to run clock and hog the time of possession. If Oregon can’t stop Georgia‘s running game, the Oregon O will not get the ball very often. Oregon really needs some early success on offense to keep Georgia from just sitting on the ball.

It should be a good game but the Dawgs have an extreme talented roster and a QB who just knows how to win So I think the Dawgs win.

After the game I am afraid you will change your tune about what an excellent O line looks like.
I think they will line up and run all over the Ducks.
I hope you win and I am wrong.

Not saying it will happen this year, but I like the Ducks defensive talent a lot this year. Note: OSU ran for 128 yards on the Ducks in last years opener in the "shoe". Again, new staff for the Ducks so I just don't know.

I agree, Oregon needs to make GA throw the ball. Also, no one knows Lanning better than Kirby, so I think that advantage is to Kirby.

For me, this is a very enlightening board, thanks. So my take on this game right now is that I think the most interesting matchup will be Georgia's TEs vs Oregon's LBs. And that's a tough match up for both sides.

Next problem, if the Ducks LBs are too occupied with the GA TEs then it's up to the rest of the d line to contain the GA running game and that could be a problem. The Ducks have to make GA throw the ball to someone other than the TEs.
Think the best chance for Ducks is exploit UGA's talented but inexperienced defense. D line will be a shadow of the historically great '21 unit. Oregon's starting five are as large as any UGA will see and if they have the upper hand, there are a couple of quality RB's to be concerned about. If Oregon wins, it will be because they get a push upfront and are able to tie up UGA's ILB's.
Offensively, Dawgs have quality at every skill position , and will have one of best (and deepest) OL's in the conference. Ducks are not without talent defensively, and Laning is a master at his craft, but last years unit statistically was comparable to the bottom third of the SEC. That won't cut it against what UGA will bring to MBS. Expect the Dawgs to rack up yards, score, and score often.

I like your confidence, I just can't allow myself that level of confidence until I've seen the Ducks under Coach Lanning's management. Hopefully it will be a great game with no injuries. Go Ducks!!!

It was some thread Joe started about a fishing boat.

38' cat...sweet..what brand? I teach LE tactics on boats...13 years and still going...and I love what a cat can do in open water. We don't have them. We run 31' Contenders; 25' USCG RB-S's; and 33' USCG RB-M's, but we see everything out there, and gimme a 32-35' cat with twin 300's or water jets, and I'm all over it.

Cat hull deserves a "cat name". I'll think on it.

Go Vols.
Went with Worldcat since they're based in NC and they've upped their game since their early days. Mostly for short off shore fishing and cruising with family. Gives a kinder ride than the traditional V hull. Feels really different in the turns but not in a bad way. Just "backward" if that makes sense. Buying used so I'm hoping it passes inspection. Still like the Nauti Hooker name. Figure interlocking hooks next to the name will make it a little less crude since it would signal that I'm talking fishing here. Just know the wife's gonna love the name. ;)

As much as I want to see UGA lose, I will have to see Oregon being physical before I can believe they have a chance.

Imagine giving up a rushing TD to a dude named Ladd. Jeez Oregon haha
