The obligatory "you're not a fan" post. I think the university deserves a better coach than what we've seen on the court thus far.

"Know my roll?" Really? Based on the content of the post I believe you are a regular on the Finebaum show.

The guy has been here only a year and is essentially still working on his first proper recruiting class. He even brought in a "decent" player during last season if you recall - which is relatively rare.

There's a lot of personnel on the team from last year that totally did not match his style of play. It's not a work in progress, they had a lot of great success last year.

What do you constitute success? A national title in a coach's first year?

In his first year at Missouri St. he went 11-20. They didn't give up on him. In his second year after getting in more players to his style, they went 24-12 and followed that up with a 26-9 campaign in his third year.

He started out 19-15 in his first season with the Vols coming into an athletic department, much less a basketball program, that was utter turmoil both financially and in reputation. The fact that he had any success last season is amazing considering the challenge of keeping this team intact. IMO, they did not only stay intact, but they improved from the previous year especially on the defensive side of the court.

First recruiting class? Was he selling insurance in Missouri? Good coaches that change jobs bring the players that fit their style they were recruiting with them. This whole argument of Martin having to "build" recruiting classes should be troubling for UT fans. He should be sending studs a letter from UT rather than Mizz St.

There is only one reason Stokes ended up at UT. I'm glad he is here, but it's not because of Martin's awesome recruiting skills.

Success is winning games you should. UT lost more games last year they should have won than vice versa.

He came into an AD in financial turmoil? What?

If the basketball program had faced penalties or NCAA restrictions, I'd give the guy a break in that regard. But there were no issues from the investigation. UK was in terrible shape in the locker room when they fired Billy Clyde. They got the right guy and never missed a beat. Their fans aren't making excuses about turmoil and such.

My expectations of the basketball team has been set to winning and competing for championships. If you guys are OK with losing at home to Austin Peay and MTSU in the NIT then good for you.

$4 million in the red... basketball coach fired... AD "resigned"... football program slowly imploding into dust... oh, I dunno.

knowing your roll is really a matter of determining the difference between a cinnamon roll, a sticky bun, and a sweet roll

Kentucky sold its soul.

Delusional. Anyone who was expecting last year's team to compete for a title is completely, utterly ridiculous.

And your excuse for him bringing in hubbs?

What will your excuse be when he also adds Nichols?

Will you give no credit then and say those guys also fell in his lap?

I absolutely cannot believe the drivel from the OP in this thread. It's one thing to have an opinion that most people don't agree with, but everything IE is saying is nothing short of outrageous.

Since when has UT basketball competed for championships? We've won two SEC titles in thirty years.

Every time this continues...

I guess if you only started following UT recently, you wouldn't realize we were on the up trend. The program was experiencing success and was in the talk of conference championships and NCAA high seed births every year.

Yet, still only won 1, and NEVER won the SEC tournament, despite being the best team by a long shot. I loved Pearl, and everything else, but he had a couple of teams that underachieved. I honestly believe Martin's teams won't.

Yup, that's why Pearl didn't get a top five seed his last three years at UT, only won one SEC regular season title, and then proceeded to not even make it to a SEC tourney final.

Oh, and that last point? People are talking about that for UT again. You just aren't paying attention.

The problem is the constant dwelling on the negativity. What was greater, the depression caused by an OOC loss to AP or the joy from the UF wins and the comeback at LSU?

Pearl certainly got fired at the right time, as far as his reputation in Knoxville goes. I would like to see how he was planning to win in 2011-2 with that garbage roster he left.
