Good News on Stokes

I don't see him at KY....I just don't see the immediate impact as a player except at UT, Ark, or FL.....

Vol.

Memphis doesn't have a scholarship for him to play right away. And since he's chosen to decide early, that should tell you all you need to know.

Now that leaves UT-UF. We have his brother, his best friend, location, the rock, playing time, and his official visit on our side.

Stokes' list of possible destinations includes Arkansas, Connecticut, Florida, Kentucky, Memphis and Tennessee, but multiple sources have told CBSSports.com that it's really down to just Florida, Memphis and Tennessee

Memphis does not have a scholarship available for this season. And though Stokes could get enough financial aid and academic scholarship money to basically go to Memphis for free, he would almost certainly not be allowed to play at Memphis this season because he would be considered a "recruited walk-on" thanks to an official visit he took to Memphis earlier this year, and the NCAA does not allow "recruited walk-ons" to play in their first year on campus.

Meantime, Florida and Tennessee both have scholarships available. Multiple sources told CBSSports.com that Gators coach Billy Donovan and Vols coach Cuonzo Martin have each make it clear to Stokes that he can play for them this season, and that is, again, something Memphis coach Josh Pastner simply cannot offer because of an obscure NCAA rule.

GP's explanantion

The rock is so over hyped. Sorry. Blast away

I'll start, why not. That's because no one cares about you and you'll never be in the rock.

Jealousy.

It's an NCAA violation anyways.

Better than a dead girls credit card.

Could be "the bag" that they have at auburn.

What the hell dude. Get over your dumbass self. Your about a prick. That's my opinion. Glad I got you upset though. Made my night. Go cry to someone who gives a damn. Cause I sure don't.

Did you guys catch that Stokes can't play for Memphis or Kentucky this spring because he took an OV to both places and they don't have a scholarship? That's the first I heard of that but that 100% eliminates both of them. Did I miss that before now?

Nah, even Memphis beat guys did not realize that until GP put that out there tonight. He could pay his own way and walk-on at either place and play immediately, but that is not likely. He told Parrish he really wants to play in the spring.

Announcement is during UF and Memphis games....but it's not during a UT game. :)

I believe MemphisRoar/Brooks Hansen tweeted that a week or so ago.

Definitely throws some extra variables into it.

Stokes commitment should start some dominoes falling for other recruits (not necessarily to UT, just in general).

I read it to say since he took an OV he COULDNT play at UK or Memphis this spring regardless of if he paid the entire bill or not. Did I misread it?

If he pays entire bill, he could play. If he got non-instituional scholly (i.e. Hope), he could play. If its a university scholly, he can not.

I know a way that Pastner could get around the rule, but I am not putting it out there until after the kid is enrolled somewhere... :eek:lol:

Below is part of the article. My cut and paste skills suck! Lol

My opinion: That tells me he can't play at Memphis or Kentucky if they are interpreting the rule correctly. Let me say this I have never heard that rule and unless its only a rule in BB then I don't believe it exist but nonetheless very interesting.
