Good News on Stokes

He would be an instant star at UT and get to practice in NBA-worthy facilities that neither Memphis or Kentucky can offer

On a more serious note, why would a top basketball prospect choose UT over Arkansas right now?

Arkansas hasn't exactly lost to Peay, but they lost to Houston at home, and they got crushed against Oklahoma (who I didn't think had gotten good again, have they?)

Why do you seem so smug and happy when something bad happens with the UT bball program, and now seem so surprised that Stokes would rather attend UT than Ark.?

I don't know about playing time, but both programs have issues. Arkansas has a more proven head coach. I doubt the Hogs had 8,000 people at their last home game.

I'm a Tennessee and Redskins fan; I'm starting to revel in self-loathing. How else would I survive?

Yes sir. Excuse the other poster that expects everybody to read every post in the thread before they ask a question.

It's extremely hard to look a couple posts back I know. I've probably answered it 3 times myself.

I have as well for weeks now but I look at it this way. If Stokes brings these fringe fans over and puts extra butts in the seats and adds excitement then I want to make them feel welcome to join the party. We need fans that are on the edge of their seat waiting to hear how this goes because of the enormous ramifications it could mean.

Excellent answer. We'd love to have you back on the bright side. You've been a solid poster here for a long time. Things could be looking up for UT bball!

I'm still not sure on the whole playing this year. I would have thought this would be common practice with basketball kids and I can never remember it happening in the past. Is he a true HS Sr? Or is he in prep school or something?

I'm surprised they got past West Memphis, and that's the best thing for hours.

Is there still a billboard saying last Krystals west of the Mississippi? Or something to that effect? I remember seeing that after crossing over from Memphis last time I went through there.

He's a true HS senior but finished his academics early and is suspended for his HS season.

The reason you never see it is because in order to play a whole season, you'd have to graduate a whole year early, not just one semester early. And if you're only graduating a semester early, you're already halfway into your high school season. Stokes not playing high school ball is the difference.

He's a senior, and an honors student. He meets the requirements for sure.

I'm not sure how often this happens, though. I haven't heard of it.

I've never seen one. However, I'm usually keeping my eyes on the road to make sure some pos trash doesn't take me out on the interstate.

He will be able to play and play often this year if he enrolls in January, imo. One poster said he would come in as the 6th man and should be starting by the end of the regular season. I agree with that assessment, wholeheartedly. With the kind of God-given ability he has, nothing short of eventually starting should be expected this year...

I would think stud basketball propects would give up their HS Sr. season for a chance to play an extra half year against college talent if they are one and done talent. Just seems to good to be true for us, I hope he can enroll and play.

It happens in baseball more than any other sport. Basketball I can't remember it happening but since Stokes isn't eligible(nothing to do with grades) to play hs this year he is making this decision. As long as he gets thru the clearinghouse he plays in Jan. The clearinghouse worries me not because he doesn't meet the requirements, but I predict the NCAA will take their sweet time passing it thru.

This is exactly why I think the NCAA will drag their feet passing him through the clearinghouse. The NCAA will see this as setting a dangerous precedent and the only way they can stop it is to delay their ruling. If he comes here I expect us to be asking Hart to demand a ruling quickly.
