Kiffin would have made this season more fun I won't lie and I do think we'd be recruiting better. I'm a forgive and forget type of guy and Lane would have made us a power again. I simply don't have that same confidence in Heup. Hope I'm wrong.
He left for USC after 1 season and if I recall correctly he took recruits with him. Seems like he told Boyd he didn’t fit his system. Things were turning around until he left. What went wrong the first time we hired him? He left for what he thought was a better job since he was from there. I’m sure his wife wanted to move back there as well.

No way would he ever do that again to an SEC program.
I live in Texas our wives wouldn’t leave for family members. But, to your point you are talking about personal issues which is why TN is still behind. Football is business and in business you hire the best chance for success. Back to person issues, I wouldn’t spend my time with ugly women just because I’m scared a good looking one might leave me one day. Hire the best and if they leave hire the next best. In my opinion, TN should have hired Kiffin away from FA and even if he would leave one day he would have turned us in the right direction with recruiting and national attention. I wouldn’t know if TN football is entertaining because they don’t come on TV where I live. Recruits around the country want to play for teams they see on TV and are exciting and successful. Nothing any recruit outside the state of TN hears about TN or their fan base is positive. That has to change. So, your wife leaves you for your cousin and when they are done, she wants to come back to you. Are you gonna take her back?????
It was a misstep not to keep Boyd, but obviously QB wasn’t the main reason we weren’t winning during that time. Dooley was doomed from the start. We had Tyler Bray committed with Crompton being a senior starter..... Not like Boyd was going to come in and light it up as true freshman given Crompton had the job sealed.
I get its popular to play what if with Tahj at Tennessee but lets not act like QB was an issue during Kiffin's 1 year and Dooley's 3...... The only down QB stretches were Dooley saving Bray for the last 4 games of his first season and Bray breaking his thumb.....
100% should’ve hired him when Butch was fired. Say what you will, but the one year he was here he had a ton of top talent coming in. Also, he took a terrible Ole Miss team and in two seasons has them clicking. We will get to wallow in it once again when he beats our asses next month.
I always think this is the norm with Ole Miss, they usually have solid or good QBs. They go on a 1-2 year stretch with the QB, still end up losing 3-5 games and start the process back over by going back to 5-8 lose seasons.
Yeah but had abysmal seasons under Matt Luke. I get he was taking over a program that was ravaged by sanctions, but still. With the resources that we have here, if kiffin had been hired over Pruitt we would be competing for the East right now. I truly believe it. I also think that likely not this year, but, he will be the first of Saban’s coaching tree to beat the old man.

There is one thing Lane Kiffin has been very consistent about for his whole career. Bringing chaos to the place is was hired at. You would think Tennessee fans would have remembered.
Once the Schiano crap happened, Kiffin was the only head coach publicly lobbying for the job while having Sexton push Tennessee for an interview. When it got to the point of entertaining Kiffin or going out and hiring first time head coaches, it was a no brainer. Cause at that point, we were at rock bottom.
Should’ve brought him in with a massive buyout to make sure he either keeps his ass put, or we get a big payday to go find another coach.
The buyout could have been similar to Butch and Dooley. The way to get at Kiffin's ego and keep in check is massive performance bonuses.... Oh you won the division, here's a million. Oh you won the SEC, here's a couple million.....
It isn't just about Kiffin, but Tennessee has to be "absurd" with their offers to coaches that top tier. I hope Huepel isn't another cheap coach outcome we have seen with Butch, Dooley, and Pruitt.
Spoken like the battered wife who is sure he's worth it and it'll never happen again. And why? Because he beat Tulane? Have some self-respect.
We are getting dangerously close to Tennessee having hired him in and of itself proves otherwise. Our current coach is a great coach, until proven otherwise. That's my stance at this moment. However, I think Kiffin would have been a home run hire, if enough people could have "forgive and forget."
This next stretch would have been tough, no matter who we hired. I'm not giving up hope just yet though. This team has some fight in it, unlike a few teams from the past few years.
