Gran/Wilson Fall-out thread (merged)

They are getting the same treatment they gave the FSU guys that offered the opposing view. I'm surprised those guys aren't doing some serious face-rubbing.

They'll be here to do that later....they're too busy 'partying' right now.

Look, some of us predicted in August that some other staffs would make a run at our guys.

We did not pay Gran nearly enough. Anyone who disputes that seems pretty retarded to me. The man was getting 175k...

Luc was one of the top 3 recruits not just to us, but to the UT staff. Urban played us with Elam and now we played ourselves with Luc. Disrespecting Gran also leaves us with no one "good" in terms of a non cussing, non carousing angel who will tell Marlon Brown's grandma he will get her grandson to church with him.

Losing Wilson will not hurt. It does suck to pay someone to be on staff and know that most of the work that we paid for recruiting wise will instead go to LSU. We helped him grow his already considerable connections in LA and MS and now he will target for a rival school all the players we really wanted from that state. I say it will not hurt because I trust LWS and we will have someone better in his place.

You will not get someone better than Gran without paying a lot more money. If we were going to pay more money, we should have paid it to Gran IMO.

Finally, those who are angry at people with sources are idiots. If my friend is Lane Kiffin and he thinks that Luc is coming, then I can say with confidence Luc is coming. If Luc changes his mind, it does not mean my source is bogus, it means that a kid changed his mind. That has and will happen in recruiting each and every year.

We still have a great recruiting staff, but we have been on guys who are super questionable academically...We are not Ole Miss, and we should be able to bring in elite guys who can qualify.

We also have a bright future as a program. Losing a guy to his instate school should never shock us, but losing a battle to Auburn for an RB sucks, as does losing a battle to Alabama for a TN boy.

We have turned away enough talent that I am cautiously optimistic, but today definitely hurts...

theres nothing to be worried about

It's not even official if he's gonna leave. If he wants to kiffin will give him a raise and let him stay!

I don't know as much about this as some of you guys, but I have to say it bothers me that important members of the coaching staff would be considering leaving after just one season. Certainly they have the right, and maybe even the obligation, to seek a better position. I don't dispute that. But doggonit, it's hasn't even been a year yet! Our season isn't even over.
I know it may be all rumors and half-truths. I know UT will still do well. But I just feel a little, well, betrayed by guys leaving so soon after getting here.

I don't know about you, but if I am working for some company and another offers me DOUBLE the salary, yeah, I am gone. Sorry, but double the salary is too much to pass up.

I just long for the ability to make massive contributions to the conversation on this site like a thread that says:
"Suck it"

Enjoy 4 chan and volnation IM chat...

It's funny, because I can say more in 2 words than you can with the novelettes you agonize over. Give us some more gems comparing coach Wilson to Larry Slade and claiming Monte Kiffin should take a pay cut.

If kiffin doesn't want him why should we?

Kiffin wants him and needs him, as much as we would like to say that we can just replace Gran, it's not that simple.

Gran can recruit the state of Florida as good as anybody. Seems as though some people forget how good of a coach he is as well.

I'm confident we could find a more than serviceable replacement, maybe even better than Gran, but if he leaves, he may take some recruits with him.

I like you MHF, good post. I hope your right about us turning away a lot of talent and still having some good options available. Today is a bad day overall for the Vols though. We've only had a few though in the past calendar year (UCLA day, Auburn day, Ole Miss day, today).

For what it's worth he isn't all that bad, I've seen much worse on here. MHF that is.

Luc was headed to UT at point and things changed. Peer pressure can be a powerful thing and Bobby Bowden retiring caused a lot of Luc's teammates to commit to FSU. Anybody who doesn't get that and criticizes people's sources is mentally challenged.

It sucks to lose Luc and Gran(possibly) to FSU in the same day but we should be happy to be in a position to have other teams targeting our recruiters and recruits as worthy of stealing. This time last year we weren't even sniffing guys like Luc and we have a whole class full of great prospects already committed who have nothing to do with Gran or Wilson.

Is Luc really that good to make this much a fuss over anyway ?

Exactly. He would have been nice to get but would probably not have been a game changer for UT and certainly would not have started over Reveiz/Frazier/Lathers in his freshman year.

I still have a lot of hope that Lathers will be very good as he is only a Freshman. We have plenty of game changers committed on defense in positions that we need more that MLB.

Recruits are going to see the need at OLB for UT and we will pick up another elite LB or two.

Hey there is the best way I have seen this explained in 6 threads and hour of reading. I like it.......4 out of 400+ not to bad

The sky has already fallen. Fulmer's final year was one of the low points in UT football history or at least recent history. We are recruiting better as far as coaches and players and playing better on the field. This program is on the way up this is only a speed bump.
