Gran/Wilson Fall-out thread (merged)

We already have 4 assistant coaches who make MORE than $325K. Money is not a problem at Tennessee. FSU can't compete with SEC money...

LV is dead on here,, l said on another post, But if ND can pay Weiss 18 million to leave and then go after Stoops with 6 million, our ESPN deal which pays us 28 million can sure as heck get each and every position coach we have another 150-200k each without breaking a sweat ,,, Hamilton needs to break it out and start writing, either with who we have or who we are going to get.

I think that Hamilton gave Lane a pot of money and told him to spread it out to cover his assistants. Not sure that Hamilton will increase that pot and Lane will have to make some decisions about how he spreads it around.

Gran would have to pay us about 92500 if he leaves for less than an OC or DC coordinators job. He is our ST coordinator and RB coach. Pay him what FSU is offering and have him sign another two year contract. And thats exactly what I think will happen. Same thing will happen or has happened with Wilson. Ed O isnt going anywhere this year.

Yes, Gran will definitely owe money to UT if he makes a lateral move. And it would quite a bit of money. I dunno exactly how much he would owe, but Hubbs said yesterday that Thompson makes $350K and if he made a lateral move, he would owe UT like $200K to get out of the contract. That is a TON of money to lose. Gran only makes $185K. Somebody do the math and figure it out...

I always assumed (mistake on my part) that UT is going to at least match FSUs offer and get him to stay, but it kinda sounds like Kiffin is gonna let him walk...

FSU would technically be the one paying the money. That's how it usually works.

Wilson is already gone. He boarded a plane at 10am today and headed for Baton Rouge. We never offered him anymore money. It looks like he is going to be replaced by the retired NFL WR Coach/OC Kippy Brown. That would a HUGE HUGE HUGE upgrade over Wilson...

It looks like the same thing is going to happen to Gran. But don't fret. He will be replaced by some big time coach. Just let this play out...

True. It still would give us an advantage in retaining him because we would only have to come up with 92500 less than they would effectively be spending on him to match.

Recruiting Dead Period starts in the coming week. Wont effect any current commitments. Basically I say we keep all of our EEs.

If you didn't think anyone was coming after our staff at the beginning of the year and especially after the alabama game. your crazy. It happens.

We will find better coaches. We wont hire to just hire.

Coaching wise yes, recruiting wise no, IMO.

yep if it is indeed true that we are in talks with kippy and kippy>>>>>>>>>>>CFW that is a huge coup...

if kiffin is willing to let gran walk...then he must already have a contingency plan

kippy was an excellent recruiter while in the college ranks...and you would think a man with his expirience would have tons of connections...

wilson, btw, has one commitment this year, ken adams

I don't think Kippy has the energy of a Monte Kiffin. That's what is going to be interesting to watch with him, where he would recruit. Georgia and Tennessee would probably be his area.

I cant see a retired OC and former NFL reciever coach leaving at all. He'll probably stay as long as Monte does.

If I'm a recruit, how do I know that LSU is the place for me if Wilson is my recruiter. In less than two years. He has recruited for Miss, UT, and now LSU.

Because he is home and because it will be 4-5 years minimum before anyone would hire him to be an offensive coordinator. He played the game well and there is no chance he can make more money somewhere else as a position coach/recruiter than what LSU just forked over.

All of that said, it is not devastating to lose him. It will be to lose Gran if that happens.

Kippy Brown is much better than Wilson. He will not even be a bad drop off recruiting wise...

You know what will not happen? We will not bring in anyone CLOSE to Gran recruiting wise for under 200k. For 300k we may be able to bring in someone comparable.

I would think his credentials alone (former NFL associate head coach, and offensive coordinator) would carry more weight than frank wilson's entire resume...

It won't be devastating to lose Gran either. Don't think that Kiffin has just sat on his hands knowing someone would come after these guys. He has people in mind.

the more and more I think about it I'm not worried in the least about losing wilson...his strongest ties were in lousiana and mississipi and oregeron's ties to those states are just as strong if not stronger...

Sab I just think that basically people are all not understanding that Gran is better than almost anyone we can bring in for recruiting Florida.

Gran is also one of the only "good guys" we have on the staff. Future Marlon Browns would have their grandma meet with Gran, not with Coach O.

Gran is also heinously underpaid. He will not be replaced for anything like his current salary unless it is another year long internship for 175k from someone else who will use their time to get another job.
