All signs point to Strong being the new HC at Louisville.

Former Cardinal QB Chris Redman, now with the Falcons, said on the Falcons radio show today that Strong would be the next HC and that his wife and kids were already in Louisville in an effort to enroll in school.

any link? i know it was radio... but anything anywhere else?

This entire thing will focus on how it impacts the recruiting of TN which is why it is here and not "Around the NCAA".

We have an all star staff. We also are at a time of year when rivals will throw out anything they can to put doubt in the mind of players that their favorite coach will be there.

We are in no danger of losing Lane Kiffin or Monte Kiffin. That sentence may seem obvious, but it gives us stability that some programs do not have. I think it is extremely unlikely that Orgeron leaves, Cregg leaves, Ausmus leaves etc. Eddie Gran and Lance Thompson are the two men we need to worry most about and there is no strong indication that either man is leaving.
Here is a roundup of firings and how they impact us.

1. Charlie Weis is fired at ND. Has not happened today, probably will happen tomorrow. This impacts TN in that there are 2-3 prospects from ND we are on. None of them seem to be committed primarily because of Weis, I would guess that we still have no shot at Hendrix, maybe a slight shot at Rees, a decent shot at Martin at DE and there may be another player we talk to. Many of the guys will want to wait to see who ND brings in to replace Weis. I do not anticipate that Urban Meyer will end up there, although that is the most beneficial rumor to us. We do not want this hire to be an amazing one publicity wise (John Gruden etc.) because we compete lots with ND for national recruits and have only been losing Catholic ones.

2. Kragthorpe is out at Louisville. This impacts us only in that some of our current staff may be discussed. Fulmer is also an option for them.

3. Al Groh is canned at UVA. This helps us with Morgan Moses, a massive OL who has 4 years to play after getting even better and stronger after a year at Hargrave. He is great friends with former UT coach Latrell Scott and may follow him somewhere else, but UT looks to be in good shape with Moses if we want him.

4. Bobby Bowden looks like he has fallen and cannot get up. The poor man looks befuddled right now and he is probably not going to be telling Jimbo Fisher who to bring is as the new D.C. which means he probably needs to move on. I do not see Jimbo setting the world on fire in terms of this recruiting class, so the turmoil in Tallahassee is good for us.

5. Coaches out at Akron, Marshall, Western KY, UNLV etc. All of these should have zero impact on us.

6. Colorado keeping their coach. This only impacts how many really "good" HC jobs are available. Good jobs would not be teams like the ones in 5, but would be teams from BCS conferences with some tradition and hope for future success. What good jobs might be opened will be answered by questions like is Maryland keeping Ralph Friedgen? Is Mangino staying at Kansas? It looks like Rich Rod and Zook are both getting another year. We know that there are not many name coaches out there who do not have jobs, to the extent that Fulmer actually would be one of the maybe 3 biggest non NFL hires name wise a school could make along with Tubberville. If lots of good jobs open up, it increases the chances that...

7. Charlie Strong leaves Florida. This would be great for us this season. Elam's relationship is supposed to be with Urban Meyer, but lots of the other UF recruits we like love Charlie Strong and it would negatively impact their recruiting class to lose him. They also are not going to find a guy with 2 recent National Titles as a DC to take that job at UF. It is a great position, but whoever they bring in will be someone who will be proving themselves, as opposed to someone as proven as Charlie. Charlie wants to be a head coach, we all know that, but if he hates all the jobs out there, he could wait until a better program he thinks he has a shot at taking as a job (Georgia, Michigan, Miami etc.) opens up, even if none of us think he would get that job.

Look forward to your thoughts. Thanks for reading.

I agree that Strong leaving Fla. will help us with defensive recruits unless they follow him. The excitement of a new coach at Notre Dame may actually help them, but I agree could help us with offensive players who were going there because of Weis---especially QB prospects. The Bowden situation should also help us in Fla.. I agree that Jimbo will have to prove that he can pull in top recruits.

Finally, I hope Fulmer will get an opportunity at another job. I'd really like to see how he fared at another school and what he's learned from his having to leave TN.

Two new rumors are Lance Thompson being considered as FSU DC and Frank Wilson to LSU.

Frank I do not think is going to make a lateral move.

Lance T as the D Cord? Would make sense to me...I hope it does not happen.

Frank will seriously consider the LSU job as they will increase his salary substantially from his UT pay. He is one of the lowest paid assistants now.

Lance Thompson will not be the next DC at FSU. Just not going to happen.

Frank will be getting a sizeable raise at Tennessee. LSU will have to pony up to get him. He loves Knoxville.

Seriously it is really important that you should all know, CLT will absolutely not become the defensive coordinator at Florida State University.

I only need one reason, the defensive coaching staff of Chuch Amato, Odell Haggins, and Jody Allen have been coaching together for YEARS, and I MEAN YEARS. like 5+years, even when Chuck left his first time to go to N.C. State. They will not be excited to have a boss whom is inexperienced in being a DC. I think they go for Steele, Van Gorder, or someone who has real experience.

I think that Frank will stay and get the increase as you suggested. He does have good ties to the LSU area, but they could probably get another recruiter with more coaching experience without getting into a bidding war with TN. Any recruiter worth his merit will be able to sell LSU within the state.

BVF I agree with you about Fulmer, I think maryland could be a place he could succeed if ralph f is canned.

I am now thinking we will not lose gran or wilson

Good news in South Bend, top DT Louis Nix drops Canes for Irish

Under Armour All-American defensive tackle Louis Nix (Jacksonville, Fla./Raines) decommitted from Miami-FL Tuesday switching to Notre Dame, ESPN affiliate Web site IrishSportsDaily.com reports.

The change occurred after Nix received a visit from Irish assistant coach Tony Alford. "He told me about the situation with the coaches, and he said if he wasn't going to be there, he thought I should still go there, and that Notre Dame was the best school for me," Nix explained. "For someone to tell me that, who possibly wouldn't be coaching me, that's something worth listening to."

The ESPNU 150 talent added, "No more visits, no more nothing. I'm 100-percent."

Nix was also offered by Florida, Florida State, Michigan, Clemson, South Carolina, Illinois, Boston College and Ole Miss.

ND still getting players.

We have the highest paid assistants in Div. I. I'm afraid we won't increase pay to keep some of these guys.

With reports of LSU having made a formal offer of almost double his salary, lets say we do lose him to LSU. Who is Frank Wilson responsible for?

In this class almost no one.

He is the most redundant person on the staff in terms of area. He is great in Louisiana and Mississippi which is also true of Orgeron. He did bring us a guy who is his distant cousin for next years class who looks like quite a prospect (maybe top 10 nationally next year) who would likely follow him.

Currently he would have been primarily responsible if we could pull Shon Coleman. You would also assume he was responsible for T Reed.

Could have a bad impact next year, but this year we will not be losing our class because he is leaving. If Coach O and Wilson left, we would have a big hole in one of the best areas of the country for talent. As long as we have yar yar we will be more than fine.

I think it would be a telling sign to know who he visited this week. I know he has a reputation of building good rapport with the recruits. The ones that we didn't get reports on that he visited.

Te be honest, I am just keeping my fingers crossed that we can keep this staff together. If I was a considering a job at LSU, I would deffinitely look at job security. Lane will have a pass for two more years before he could get into hot water. I don't think that will happen. On the other hand, Miles tenure could be coming to an end after the results of the last few seasons. Job security would be an issue at LSU in my opinion. I also think that Miles may have cut his own throat after he threw his quarterback under the bus when he said that he did not signal his quarterback to spike the ball at the end of the Ole Miss game. There is video clearly showing him doing that. Those are the kinds of things that can turn a team against you. Would you want to work or play for a coach that could do the same to you?

I cannot see a world where we lose any of our assistants to Kansas.

I think Skip Holtz should think long and hard about that job.

Did anyone notice that Ken Adams is listed as a defensive lineman and not a tight end in the govolsxtra article. I guess Hooker wanted to show off his research SKILLZ again.

But isn't the second coming going on at Notre Dame? Thought SHoltz to ND. Tongue in cheek but those rumors are out there as seems to happen with ND anytime they change their coach.

Let me say, for now, Wilson has one 3 star commit, BUT Porter has 3 4* and 1 3* committed (I think). So, we have a chance to move in on some of those and probally will not loose ours.
