Yeah - I lost myself as well.

I keep wondering why Maze was in the game on Okie State's 2nd to last possession though and not Josh Tabb - we needed the defense.

I don't like taking shots at players (especially ours). But, I could take my granny (78 yrs. young), run a pick and roll, with Maze guarding me, and I would get to the basket.(with a good look)

If he gets picked, he quits playing D on either of the offensive players involved.

So if you read between the lines, the argument is that Tennessee is paying John Calipari-type money to a guy who can't win with good players. Great.

(I hate to keep harping on Pearl's money, but it's a fact -- I don't care how nouveau riche you are, if you're paying $75 for a steak dinner, you don't expect to be getting a Western Sizzlin meal anymore.)

That argument assumes that good players are not hungry -- which is of course a false assumption. I buy into the alleycat v. fatcat distinction and agree that BP needs alleycats for his style to work. Talented alleycats are obviously preferred over scrub alleycats, so I guess the next step is recruiting those guys.

good article, said what others here have observed.

He's surprised that Pearl couldn't motivate this team to play hard when his other teams did too. Good BB material for next year.

I really agree with this article...there is just no character on this team. T Smith wants to win. That's about it. Everyone else is looking out for their own agenda.

I'm glad someone wrote this kind of article. It really needed to be put out there. Maybe Pearl will put it up in the team locker room.

I think the fans sensed this throughout the season thus the decline in game attendance...

Dang, his article is a cold dose of reality.

no....his article was more like a...."so tell us something that we don't already know".....pretty much everyone noticed the lack of hunger from the very beginning...nothing new here....

Why does Tyler get this pass? He was awful in almost all of our losses this season. The double pump thing just doesn't work. He should have murdered that team today, but didn't get it done. Chisn and Prince are goofball, no sense having teamkillers, but I think the others appear to be playing to win.

Pearl is as much of the issue as anyone. There is no expectations placed on these players, limited accountability and absolutely no focus, as it isn't required.

Since Pearl managed to field a team this year without any good outside shooters on it, despite the fact that his offensive system approach is heavily dependent on shooting the three, then I'm not exactly confident in his ability to recruit guys who fit his system well.

"When your center and biggest player has three more 3-point attempts than rebounds, well, that's a problem."

I'd say that's our season in a nutshell.

His system doesn't really require the 3. It requires overwhelming and intrinsically motivated talent with extreme self-initiated focus. Other than that, he has us covered.

Let's just face the truth. Pearl is most certainly his mentor's protege. Knoxville in 2009 could just as easily be Iowa City in 1993. It should come as no surprise.

If i'm not mistaken, Tabb was the one that got crossed up on that last shot.....

I had to work and watched none of your game, but I gather from his comments and from some of the others that the team seemed ill-prepared and did not take advantage of UT's advantage in the front court, settling instead for low percentage shots from the perimeter.

Is that a Pearl issue or a player issue?

(Note: This is not meant to be antagonistic in the slightest. You guys got to the Dance. My team is down the road in the parking lot at the 7-11, getting their rocks off by lighting ant hills on fire with the other losers)

On the contrary, the team was as prepared as they always are for huge games that mean everything to the program.

You may want to know that your prediction of free throws being the difference didn't really get realized.
